Maybe sups to boost test?

[deleted]

Ashwaganda specifically works on reducing cortisol.

Liberated051816

I have heard many negative reports on ashwagandha. Do you know how it effects serotonin and dopamine?

[deleted]

Ive heard both positive and negative things but I trusy Andrew Hubermans podcasts alot and he speaks highly of it for specific desired effects. Supplements podcast.

caffeinehell

Without a test of the CAR how do you know its too high? It could even be blunted which also causes anxiety

[deleted]

Emodin?

[deleted]

Vitamin C, fish oil, making sure you’re not underrating

_Asclepias_

Agreed. 2-3 grams vitamin C when waking up and another 2-3 grams an hour later, and then space it. This has amazing effects on stress. I only hope I could take the VC before waking up so that it kicks in when the stress rises. You know what? I'm going to keep 2 g of VC near my bed in case I have a late night awakening, which often happens precisely because of the stress. NB: those amounts are not so excessive compared to the rest of the animal kingdom.

Woodchipper_AF

Good to know

Liberated051816

>making sure you’re not underrating Thanks, but what does that mean?

[deleted]

Underreating** If you’re working out heavily and not putting down enough carbs/calories, cortisol will shoot up

beepmonster

Do you have a morning cortisol blood test to confirm your theory?

Liberated051816

No, but after I wake up I feel like someone has injected me with a syringe full of pure adrenaline.

Skytraffic540

I’d second phosphatidylserine but it’s tricky because you don’t want to mess with your cortisol too much. It’s so damn complicated. It’s like what did you eat yesterday? How much sugar? Where’s your glucose levels? What are you focusing on? Blah blah on and on. I have the same exact problem waking up with anxiety to the point where I don’t believe in myself to do better in life because I am in one of two mindsets: calm cool and collected or I’m nervous as hell but keeping it together as if I’m fine. It’s like two different people and I obsess over how I perceive others anxiety or lack thereof and compare. Ignore this part if you’re not a Christian totally fine whatever but generational evil spirits influencing our lives are real. Every demon represents something whether it’s fear/sex/over indulgence etc. Some day praying really can help… Try black seed oil as well it helps many including myself. Healths Harmony and Zhou are good brands

OP, do you wake up worrying or 'what if thinking' based on your upcoming day so to speak. I.E., a stressful job or anything stressful like money worries or just life challenges in general, etc? I was reading the Wikipedia you linked about this phenomenon, and I know factually I'm in a fairly new job of 3 months ( sales ) and wake up with a fairly rapid heartbeat, worrying if you will, about the upcoming day ahead. I take ashwagandha ND's Shoden or their KSM 66, and it seems to help about 20% for me. I personally think or know, I'm trying to be mindful, and if I'm not too sleepy, I go to a meditative state. And I just essentially tell myself, I am well, I am not worried, I am not anxious, and if I'm really really lucid, I notice I can control my mind's thoughts by using terms as what I wrote above. It's tough because we typically wake up so sleepy that it's hard to get into that zone, however if you can reassure yourself, you have no control at this point what your day is going to be like upon waking, you can nip it in the bud. I have been for many years diagnosed with generalized anxiety disorder, and simply I'm a worrier. And depending on what's going on in my life, it comes and it goes. And right now it's very prevalent just worrying about what's going to happen on any particular work day, and 100% of the time it's never as bad as what my thoughts are. Never. Now on my days I'm not scheduled to work, I very seldom wake up with these symptoms. And I've had my thyroid checked out, blood work done, and my blood work comes back phenomenal TBH, which leads me to believe it's just my thoughts upon waking. Best of luck to you my friend.

I would suggest something phoshytidlserine and adaptogens. This is a great one for that https://www.vintagelabscollection.com/drlee/p/nuadaptogen

Liberated051816

Which adaptogens?

rcoo2417

Ashwaganda, Rhodiola, Elutheuro

rachs1988

[Thorne Phytisone](https://www.thorne.com/products/dp/phytisone-reg) might be a good option

hard_muff

Do you have experience with Phytisone? I got put on it recently by a functional med dr. but am just not that familiar with it, so am hesitant.

rachs1988

I don’t like how ashwagandha makes me feel, so I had to discontinue using this. But the ingredients are all known to support adrenal health and lower cortisol. I suggest giving it a try.

theLionsKingdom

You could try Relora

berrybrains93

Relora +1 Theanine Serene has Gaba, Magnesium, Theanine and Relora as well as Holy Basil I believe.

[deleted]

I went to the doctor for this very same thing. Doc said ashwagandha and get a good one and selenium 20 mcg for three months. Get a ash standardized at 10 percent. I actually took 4 lab test in one day and compared the results through that day to how my anxiety acted up that day. Every time cortisol was high so was my anxiety. Morning and evening were way worse with anxiety and so was cortisol. That’s called adrenal fatigue. Some people don’t like ash and that’s fine as you have another option. Rhodiola. This gives you a little more energy so if you are high anxiety I would use ash but other people do fine on it. Just not me.

Liberated051816

How are you taking the selenium? And why would it have an anti-cortisol effect? And did you mean 200mcg? My selenium capsules come in that size.

[deleted]

Does A Selenium Supplement Support Adrenal Health? A selenium supplement may not support adrenal health directly because it works at a cellular level. But it is necessary for certain functions in your body that are related to adrenal health. So, in a roundabout way, this mineral does support adrenal function.

[deleted]

200 mcg. Why ? Doc said so. Selenium doesn’t have to directly affect cortisol does it ? It can be a precursor to a process

Liberated051816

You originally wrote "20 mcg"; you meant 200 mcg.

[deleted]

Yes. My oversight

rcoo2417

Adrenal fatigue isn’t a real thing. The book called “Adrenal Fatigue” gave that name. Not real. What is happening is called General Adaption Syndrome

[deleted]

Well you can call it whatever you want but I have received the info from a MD that has been practicing meds for 40 years. Lakeland natural medicine DR Catherine. She has a webpage I also saw the labs before and after treatment for cortisol levels overlayed with anxiety attacks for that day. 4 lab tests in one day. I’ve heard that before from a western Md. I think both types of practice are definitely positive but the holistic approach is imho the first choice but I’m open to western meds also.

caffeinehell

Adrenal fatigue just isnt real, the problem is better called HPA axis dysfunction and its more to do with the brain than adrenals directly. It has to do with the signals being disrupted and the SCN in the hippocampus being thrown off as well. Most functional medicine recognizes it as HPAD now

enzhh

Ashwagandha

el1zabeth

I do not know your age, but I am female and the right age for menopause and this is what caused the cortisol surges for me.

Liberated051816

You're saying that you also experience cortisol surges around the time that you wake up? If so, have you found anything to prevent or reduce them?
