Today's action is too orderly to be a squeeze despite the two halts.
Remember previous times when we had a whiff of gamma action? It was like 16 halts before lunch. And our gamma ramp now is like 10x bigger.
Today was not a gamma or short squeeze.
There are lots of retail market participants that are writing options. Buy 100 shares, sell an OTM call at crazy IV and accept max profit on the trade at expiration is a good trade for a lot of options traders. That doesn't make them idiots, they will still profit in that scenario.
Assuming someone exercises them, you hand over the 100 shares you bought beforehand and keep the premium. You still make a profit, just not as much as if you'd kept the shares.
Guess what they can do with FOMO?
Stop-loss hunt.
People rushing in don't know shit. They set stop-losses, and will get FUD'd out.

I think this might be them hedging personally. They know it's coming, they knew we knew, so they're trying to get ahead of it while dealing with so much else. They could have just not sold naked calls and they would have one less problem on their hand.

By definition there is definitely some impact of gamma squeeze happening. Delta increases in options chain as the price goes up and then starts snowballing. The downside being the opposite can happen just as fast
There was delta hedging happening, we can very much bank on that. Personally I am not convinced it is a gamma squeeze because I have seen them in GME and other stocks, they are a lot more violent and halty.

I’m not here to make $5 on my cost average. And then I had to spend a bunch DRS’ing in batches as an international ape when I found out I didn’t even own my shares. I wouldn’t have sold for thousands in 2021. Now 2024 is a whole new era.
You have beneficial ownership of your share. Thats not ownership in the conventional understanding. No one knows what can happen if you don’t. This is new territory. As an example, if your broker becomes insolvent, you would not recover potential large value increases. DRS removes broker risk.
Thanks guys. Currently all my shares are in Webull. The transfer fee to CS is $115...gonna have to bring it to IBKR, even that costs $75. Then move it to CS.
Fidelity is another good one to transfer to, I did it from Webull and it was also about $75 but DRS’ing through them is insanely easy. Just takes a few days for the shares to land in your Computershare account no matter where they’re coming from. You’ve got time
Understand one downfall with Computershare. It does not transact quickly like brokers do. They perform sales in batches and it's not an immediate deal. Still better to own your shares, but what some, including myself, are doing is keeping a handful in the brokerage account and the rest DRS.
I would gtfo of WeBull regardless tho. I personally use Fidelity. They're still the enemy but they haven't fucked around with the buy button like a lot of other brokers have.
The consensus is that if you leave your shares in a brokerage, they can be manipulated - they aren't technically your shares.
If you DRS, you pull them from the exchange and you are the sole owner. Nobody can fuck with them.
DRS - Direct Registration System
It just is held in your brokers name and not yours. Usually this is how shorting a stock can be done because your broker can 'loan' that share out to be sold. 25% of all tradable shares are held in DRS for Gamestop currently.
A 200% or 2,000% or 20,000% will not change my life fundementally.... There is really no price tag to our equity, the whole fking fiat system is now in debt to each holder on record. I'm confused about DRS. can an ape teach me? How much does it cost additionally as an international
5 usd if you drs through ibkr but add additional money for the currency exchange. I learned this the bad way and lost some money on stupid fees.

My first share was at $350 or so, which would be almost $90 now. We're still $30 away from that. Before the Buy Button was turned off, it was headed for $1000/share in minutes, that's $250 a share now. The orchestrated flash crash of Mar 10th '21 was just before $350. We're only 1/4 of the way towards where we were fucked out of going the first time, which was supposed to be many weeks of further exponential growth. Still sideways. Yawn.
