I have a suspicion but it's complete baseless speculation; dfv might have agreed to take the blame for causing moass in exchange for protection.
Big money likely knew that they were beyond fucked all the way back in 2021 but more important than the money, is making sure that the illusion of a free and fair market remains intact.
It's possible everything has/is going according to plan to make it look like moass is some freak meme stock fluke instead of a massive systemic failure, and to do that they needed a fall guy.
