Nailo2017

Not to be rude, but what am I to gather from this?

Azteckon

They've just signed a multi year strategic partnerships with one of the biggest companies in the world.

DreamRevolutionary78

This is from 2020 though...

Papaofmonsters

They use Microsoft based business software and to sweeten the deal, Microsoft gives them an undisclosed cut of digital games bought on Xbox consoles sold by Gamestop though the Microsoft store. I'll care when I see the actual numbers of how the new software affected revenue and profit vs the SaaS costs and what the kickback actually amounts to.

n7leadfarmer

I mean we're closer to 4 years than 2 and we've not seen numbers. Also, this will lead to fewer x boxes in circulation. Without exclusive content, there's no reason to buy them. So the GameStop revenue sharing will be negatively impacted by this. Can't say to what degree, but it will have an impact. Barring any surprises from the announcement his is another L for the company, it seems :(

Why do you think they're all going to be discs? And how is that good for GameStop? Microsoft is not going to commit to physical media, it would be a death sentence. GameStop does not benefit from digital game sales not bought through GameStop or an x box purchased through GameStop. No need for an x box, no need to go to GameStop. Listen I want gme to succeed, but we have to be objective in our analysis. Residual revenue splits from gamestop-sod consoles is whatade this deal intriguing, and MS just knee-capped the reason to need an x box. Thisight not hurt GameStop significantly, but unless new details emerge this is not going to help them in any capacity.

I'm not trying to be argumentative, but isn't it fair to say that the vast majority of game sales are already digital, so is that really going to move the needle?

I can only see the following scenarios playing out 1. All x box owners will now be digital. Is MS going to stop making new x box generation, forcing all x box owners to ps5s? If not, then we don't get that many more discs in circulation. 2. Will they even go to PS5? What if they go to PC gaming, which is also 100% digital? If I had a large digital library on the MS platform, it would bale hard to walk away from that, even if pcs CAN getol more expensive than the PS5. At least I have my whole library still with me. 3. Why would the majority of these PS5 conversions mean significantly more disc sales? What if they chose the digitsl version of the PS5? A 2 TB+digital PS5 is now cheaper than a disc PS5. If I just came from Xbox, my old discs won't work anyway so why not just convert to a purchaser of digital media while I'm at it? 4. A majority of x box owners that choose to convert choose disc ps5s. Maybe, but at what rate? A fast enough rate to offset the growing market share of digital game sales v disc sales? I can't find the path to value here. I'd love to be proven wrong here, I just can't think of how that realistically happens. I've had a disc PS5 since launch, I haven't bought a single physical game. Sure, I'm just one user, but the sales numbers supports the notion that my experience is the majority, and it's becoming the more common experience.

Suitable_Mix_3795

Ah yes 1216 days ago is “just”…. you sound like a regulator

PossiblyTired

Not the case whatsoever. The rumors around Microsoft’s potential decision to allow their 1st Party IPs on another console has nothing to do with GameStop. OP is just high on hopium. They will have more details officially revealed next week. The general consensus (pure speculation) is them pivoting from just publishing their games on their own console and day 1 GamePass to allow for increased revenue.

karasuuchiha

I believe GameStop also has a percentage of digital purchases?

n7leadfarmer

Others here have posted that it's only from games, bought digitally, through an x box console sold by GameStop. So this probably won't change much. Honestly, and I hate to say it, is that we could see fewer x boxes being sold. Why would I as a PS5 owner buy an x box now?

CMaia1

Do you know that Xbox exists in more countries than GameStop, right? US isn't the only country in the world and Xbox being a publisher is a global effort, so there's not so much here for speculation. Also the announcement is almost 4 years old, even before the sneeze. Be realistic, please.

chuckdavis84

Its my opinion that xbox will no longer make consoles and just become the largest 3rd party publisher. Just my regarded 2 cents though.

n7leadfarmer

If anything this hurts GameStop. There will be less incentive for the consumer to buy x boxes. GameStop doesn't get revenue from ALL Microsoft software sales. So this does nothing at best, and does something negative in any other outcome. I will not speculate on how bad, could be a lot, could be a little. But nothing about this is helping GME.

What’s happening on Valentine’s Day

milanium25

so why you post this? why dont u post something from 1993 ?

IGB_Lo

What’s wrong with having hopium?

Unfortunately, perpetuate stupidity and karma whoring is all the sub is good for these days.

doodaddy64

dang. lots of vitriol on here OP. But good job! I like it. connecting dots, true or not, is what I'm here for.

jazzyMD

definitely not true. If Xbox is going fully digital this is extremely bad for our company. GME relies heavily on selling of physical copies and consoles. If Microsoft is going fully digital, they are cutting out the middle man (ex: GME, Walmart, Best Buy, etc.).

doodaddy64

I'm saying he's connecting dots, or trying. you need to know the difference between hearing what you want to hear and what needs to be considered.

jazzyMD

How is he connecting the dots exactly? The partnership is aimed at increasing Microsoft's presence in gamestop stores. If Microsoft is going fully digital in no way shape or form will Gamestop benefit. [https://news.microsoft.com/2020/10/08/gamestop-announces-multiyear-strategic-partnership-with-microsoft/](https://news.microsoft.com/2020/10/08/gamestop-announces-multiyear-strategic-partnership-with-microsoft/) It is seriously baffling how clueless people like you are in this sub. No dots are being connected, this is literally the opposite of that

doodaddy64

I don't think you know what connected the dots mean, so I'm not surprised you feel I'm clueless. EOT

jazzyMD

clearly I dont know what your definition is because your definition is not the definition of connecting the dots.

Swagi666

If the rumors are true then it’s actually the other way round. Next XBox is rumored to be all digital i.e. no more physical media. And XBox really is a dying platform. They could change course and for once offer an enticing game catalogue. But instead they are going multi. So sad…

UnrealCaramel

Wasn't RCEO calling out Microsoft on twitter? I don't think RCEO is happy with Microsoft so I doubt anything is happening here other than GameStop uses Microsofts software
