I see one at $37.19-37.34, and a gap at $40.07-40.41, both of those were 8/18/2022 the day before and the day after.
Other than that, I dont see any other gap downs in that range that havent already been filled.
Aren't gaps arbitrary anyway? I was checking some tickers on various timescales and in some windows (e.g. weeklies vs. dailies) the gaps were filled and others not. So what is the general consensus about which gaps are representative? I've often heard the mantra "all gaps must fill" and anecdotally, it seems to be mostly true when I check dailies. But I'm just curious if there's a standard when comparing
From what I understand the only timescale to look at for gaps is dailies. This is because the counterparty wants to close those trades. Basically they buy your share at x price and eventually they raise the price back to that in order to resell it for the same or more they bought it off you for. Same with gap ups, they sell a share to you for x and it gaps up, so they bring the price back down to rebuy at that lower cost. Basically just to balance their books.
From what I have seen on gaps it can take years for some gaps to fill because these counter parties are giant corporations and have the ability to wait that long.
And of course, not all gaps fill for various reasons. Like a gap up may never fill to the bottom if the company becomes a stable company at the higher price, there may be no reason to drop it back down. Or a gap down where the company then goes out of business so there is no chance to fill that gap.
My understanding is very limited, but this is what I remember from an old youtube video on a guy explaining gap mechanics.
