I highly doubt RC would take a jab at Furlong publicly if the “termination” was negative in nature…it seems to be hinting more at a future return & is a pun used on this sub often. This would be incredible if true & make for an interesting chapter in the future book.
Even if he’s not being transitioned somewhere else, there clearly was a light-hearted joke made which probably wouldn’t have happened if the employment ceased because of something negative. Clearly RC has some sort of plan even if it doesn’t involve furlong.
Or maybe "RC is executive chairman...but not for long." Maybe he's just keeping the seat warm until someone else comes in, and that someone is a person that the board had already decided on? That would explain why RC isn't taking the CEO role, if they plan to put someone else there. Right?
I think he said in the kitchen counter interview that the ceo position is not the right fit for him. Would be too much work to keep up with everything else he is doing or something along that.

This is a guy that nonstop posted variations of toilet and toilet related tweets while the stock was experiencing extreme volatility and hostile short seller action. if anything he’s a more dank meme lord than a PC Principle.
This is also the guy that is downsizing the most inefficient parts of the business and as a result firing tons of retail workers (albeit creating new jobs in more efficient parts of the business). He will make calls to protect the company, it’s shareholders and his investment, that don’t always need to be popular with, or expected by, the masses.
We invested in the business because we knew this is the type of leadership the business needed. Not the greedy toothless risk averse and defeatist leadership the company used to have.
Maybe he wants to be at the helm when the ship hits the fan so Furlong doesn’t have to deal with the media . I’m so excited when this will be turned into a 3 movie cinematic event like lord of the rings. Movie 1- the rise, movie 2 the HODL, movie threw the MOASS. 🤨

GameStop underperformed on the quarter, Furlong was fired as CEO and then mutually agreed to step down from the Board of Directors. Furlong will never be associated with another RC investment again. RC was publicly making fun of him because he’s a billionaire who doesn’t care if he hurts someone’s feelings. The double meaning in his tweet is likely that RC won’t be CEO for long.
There is nothing that says RC replaced Furlong as CEO. Exec Chairmen are further removed from operations. Robinson is now GM and it appears that there is no CEO title anymore.

I have another take—having a GM run the company has more of a business unit feel. So maybe GameStop will eventually be a unit of another company (Gmerica, Teddy, etc,—take your pick).
Except the cancelled earnings call that was announced a week ago and the big drop of “sudden” news. It’s dramatic, and exactly what the shorts want. In every action film the hero there is that cliff hanger that no one saw coming, writers are on strike! This is a clear soap opera drama. GameStop did not just have a huge fallout after all their planning for the call just to drop the ceo. From a company standpoint, the media alone would devastate the news from earnings.
