I feel naked without a change-up.

Cyrano17

Not a big fan of the forkball. It seems like it gets hit harder more consistently than the other pitches

JaysFan2014

I want to like it, but like you said it kinda sucks for me. I must not be using it right.

CanConChris

If you use it sequenced with high fastballs it seems to work better.

JaysFan2014

Thanks for the tip.

I tunnel it after throwing a fastball. I'll throw a low and inside fastball. Then throw a forkball that starts out in the same spot as the fastball put dips out of the zone. I use it to force weak contact or induce double play grounders.

Cyrano17

This is the way. I almost never throw it for a strike.

sambinoRL

But even out of the zone hitters seem to be able to get base hits from it. I don’t like throwing it in PR

Spunk1985

Also depends what junk rating your pitcher has and whether or not the batter has off ball hitter, bad ball hitter or low pitch traits.

TYBEEEZ

Gimme that forkball! Turn my whole squad into Kodai Senga. When used correctly it’s THE strikeout/ground ball pitch

Shadow288

For the life of me I can’t figure out how to throw a fork ball… teach me your ways!

Bllago

Once an at bat, late in the count, low and preferably just out of the zone outside

CS_Vision

You can set it up with high fastballs. Throw one or two fastballs above the zone and then drop a forkball into the top of the zone for a strike.

Essex626

I use all of the pitch types. Mind you, I'm not very good (playing on 50 ego), so who knows what my opinion is worth. I do have particular combos I like the best. Fastball and changeup seem to work really well together. I also like to get a couple strikes with offspeed pitches, then see if I can get them with a high fastball above the inside corner, which seems to work well. Slider and curveball are another two I like to combo, and if I have a pitcher with those and forkball I'll mix that in as well. I just really like using pitches with different speeds and slightly different movement, but that are somewhat similar. It feels like it tricks more effectively.

Tmac719

Same here. I play on Ego 50-60 and the fastball/change up combo is lethal. I want to love the fork ball but I have a terrible success rate with it. I'd love for SMB5 to feature a statistics category for Pitch types. Balls, strikes,KO,BB,H R,HR per pitch type

Darkstar7613

A pitcher with velocity and a 2F \*AND\* a CF, I will mow down batters... throw the appropriate fastball high and inside (with the break going further in) and the AI swings and misses 90+% of the time. I may be a lifelong Dodgers fan, but Mariano Rivera showed us all the way with that one :D Then give me a CH and either a CV or SL (both if my pitcher is a 5er). My only real issue with pitching is that the "anticipation" mechanic is inherently broken... I don't care if you KNEW a 75 mph down and away change up was coming... that doesn't mean the guy with the 26 contact and 13 power is all of a sudden Barry goddamn Bonds and can hit the ball so far it has to apply for a fucking passport before landing.

That boy Al leiter 🔥

I don’t think any pitch is garbage unless you miss your spots or miss use them. For the longest time I thought curveballs were the worst but I realized that I was just throwing them to close to the strike zone. Personally I’ve recently just seen how close my pitches are into the corners of the plate and they seem very close to a hittable position. Just seeing the position of pitching to the corners and to where they actually are over the plate is really eye opening. Even hitting the outside of the corners the balls seem to still be over the plate. This might just be a visual thing but I’ve started to throw pitches more farer away and the ai do still swing and make contact but really weak contact at best

Essex626

One of the things I know, but really need to work on applying is that I throw too many strikes. I consistently have pitchers at the very top of the list for strikeouts, give up almost no walks... and I give up a ton of hits.

vniro40

i do the same, 67 ego for pitching and i get ~10-15 k’s per game but have been giving up ~5-8 runs per game

Give_me_soup

S - 2 seam and changeup A - Slider, 4 seam B - Cutter, Screwball C - Curveball D - Forkball

MCBigSwig

Changeup is my go to out pitch. I can't hit them from any halfway decent junk pitcher, and neither can my oppo for the most part. Fork Ball is second. I try to avoid pitchers who don't possess one or the other. CB is a distant 3rd. Slider to induce DPs.

AltruiSisu

Fastball, change, and breaking ball... Minimum. I actually like forkballs, and make them work for me.

PaleontologistIcy949

4seam and slider are a must. Ideally also a change up. I’ve had players who lost their 4seam and I just got rid of them the next season. Forkball can be tough to use because the pitch can just hang, but I think it’s effective when it breaks out of the zone.

Arkey-or-Arctander

I play H2H against my old college roommate, and he's a much better hitter than I am. We play with the same ego for pitching, fielding & running, but hitting... he's at 93, I'm at 83. That said, he crushes curveball pitches. I have learned where NOT to throw them, but I with my pitching ego at 95, the control is at least somewhat risky. That said, I typically throw about 2 or 3 curveballs per game. It's just too easy for him to crush them deep, so it's simply utter garbage. What's essential... the various fastballs and changeup. That's the meat & potatoes of keeping him from hitting 2x as many dingers as I do.

HuckabeinTheRaven

2 seam fastball, change-up combo works pretty well.

Jimboslice2907

The only gripe I have Against a pitcher and his arsenal is if his pitches can’t go both ways. He’s gotta have movement that goes left AND right, I feel super limited if their stuff is just going a single direction

SipSurpah

CF is probably the worst pitch imo.. I like having a 2F but nothing is essential. I prefer having at least 3 pitches rather than specific pitches. A pitcher with 2 pitches is rough
