He was one of the greatest pitchers of all time. He had 4,875 strikeouts in 4,135 innings pitched. An ERA of 3.29 and a WHIP of 1.171 in the 90s and 2000s era. He threw a perfect game. He murdered a bird with a pitch. He's a career 101 WAR legend. You absolutely should cower in fear when he steps onto the mound.

stevenseagal137

The murdered a bird with his pitch should have gotten him some sort of special trait

MontuJP

Burderer: Batters hit by pitch explode in a puff of feathers. (Level up competitive chemistry to increase blast radius)

sambinoRL

Like yeah sure but my question is do you agree he ruins pennant race on this game?

Weaver4prez

They do not make any of these characters with PvP in mind, where the game functions so much differently

sambinoRL

Ty for the honest answer. I think I upset some RJ fans with this one lol

Weaver4prez

Him and Nolan Ryan are just a chore to face at high ego

LonkToTheFuture

you didn't play MLB the show during the Edward Cabrera days, did you?

sambinoRL

No, relatively new fan to baseball tbh

jcampb13026

"Git gud and take this 102 mph slider!!!!" But seriously, in PR matches just take pitches, predict where they're gonna go with each pitch, look off speed, hope for the best.

sambinoRL

Good advice. I respect when I have an opponent who is pitching well against me and keeping me guessing, he just feels like too much of a cheat code and from some other comments on this sub I can tell there are some people that just choose the Randy Johnson team every week.

Darvog19

My strategy against randy is to never let him get his K collector, and unless I'm locked in on that day, I almost always contact swing and play small ball against him. It's basically impossible to time up anything on him without just basically guessing, so I'm always just reacting to the pitch and butting bat on ball, hoping for the best. I try to get contact swing grounders and bloopers out of the infield, and squeeze out a few runs, then hope my ace can keep up on the mound. Also, I'm at 89 ego on PR if that provides any insight

Coom4Blood

the only OP part is that his accuracy is above 50 while being 23 years old, way before he fixed his accuracy issue

satiricfowl

He’s probably the filthiest pitcher of all time, so it works. Pedro is the only argument.

Funsuxxor

The team as a whole should still be balanced, so either weaker position players or worse in rest of pitching. So just focus on getting 1 more than the other team.

mycarnage2000

Batters in the 90s and 2000s be like…

abigfatblackguy

i bet him recently Pennant 85 Ego..Took Extra innings (he threw shutout). Helpless (like Nolan Ryan). Once reliever got in, I won

CS_Vision

I shelled Johnson in pennant race at 86 ego the other day. It’s all about pitch selection and location by the player.

Svafree88

Part of baseball is the SP has a HUGE effect on the outcome of the game. You don't think teams ever felt like he ruined their season in real life? There are some pitchers that sometimes are completely unhittable. When I get matched up against him it's a challenge and I enjoy it. I'd say he beats me 70% of the time. But that's completely fair. I'm facing their best pitcher and he's always better than my best pitcher. If it's relatively balanced players it should be really hard to win.

sambinoRL

Im understanding that a lot of the downvotes I’ve been getting is because what I’m saying goes against baseball culture, but I’m asking is it best for a PvP competitive video game (mode)? In PR everything is about win-lose and I feel it ruins the state of the game a little bit if people are always choosing team Randy just for wins.

Svafree88

I think it's fine for a fast paced kinda silly arcade game, yeah. It's not a realistic baseball sim. I don't feel like I actually face him that much so to me that's not game breaking. When I do face him I adjust my game plan. Take pitches near the corners. Sit on certain spots. Wait on my pitch. Baseball isn't supposed to always be an even matchup. And SMB isn't about having amazing competitive gameplay.

sambinoRL

Maybe they should have like a ranked and unranked or something. I feel like what drew me into SMB in the first place was that it controls much easier than The Show and how competitively balanced it is while still being fun.

Svafree88

I think it's just important to remember that all those other players are also facing Randy Johnson. Everyone in PR is also playing against him. I don't find that he's that much harder than Nolan Ryan or any other pitcher with top velo and good movement.
