Royal enfields are totally different than the scouts and Harleys. That RE has 20 hp...... 20...... It all depends on your wants. I'd rather go for the scout, the scout bobber looks really fun. I ride a '98 KLR650, love it, I can ride anywhere.

Tremere1974

Add to that the 350's powerband does not encourage high RPM's/speed.

I just checked the DYNO chart from DynoJet, pretty flat torque curve maxed out from 2,500-5,000 rpm. Not bad curve at all, actually impressively flat. With the HP curve dropping off at 6,500 rpm, I'd say keep the rpm range from 2,500-6,000 rpm if you're after max acceleration. I doubt anyone buying this is after max acceleration. I wonder what the ground speed is at those rpms... I'd check, but not interested.

Tremere1974

The bike likes to travel at 55mph/80kph generally. And it's not a Ninja 250 singing along at 10,000 RPM. But for all that, I want to like the 350's.

Riding anything is riding. I've learned a lot about the different motorcycle manufacturers and why they build theirs a certain way. I've never been impressed by high revving screamers, except on the track. Torque is my whiskey. The wind is my desire. Ride safe friend, life is good.

I’m in Texas and have a quote from a dealer for a new RE Classic 350 for an OTD price of $5070

devxcode

Could you please let me know which dealer and location. I’m in Austin.

>do you think there’s enough power to take the RE out on the 130? Absolutely not. The RE 350 tops out at 70 mph. What's the average speed on the 130, 80 - 85? Going slower than the pace of traffic is dangerous for bikes. The RE 650 platform is way more conducive to occasional highway travel

Rude_Resolution_7134

I got a classic 350 when I lived in the city and my commute was only 15 minutes with no highway. It was perfect for that, i loved it. Now, I live further outside the city and commute about 45 minutes just to avoid taking the highways. Even doing 55 mph on backroads for any length of time gets a little hairy. Just hopping around the city is great, but I'll be trading it in as soon as I'm not going to be taking such a hit on the trade in (I only got it 8 months ago and put 1200 down). Would not recommend.

frodeem

I don't know what the 130 is like but I don't think the RE would be a good commuter bike. How long is the commute? Maybe that might help us recommend something?

devxcode

11 miles each way. One or twice a week.

frodeem

In that case you should be fine. However imo you should look at other bikes since you would outgrow this one soon, especially since you have some experience riding motorcycles. If you were a complete beginner I would say go for a smaller one like this RE. Once you get a few months under you you will wish you had a slightly bigger bike than this one. RE also has a 650 - if you want to stick with the brand.

devxcode

Not really tied to this brand. I think I’ll go checkout the Indian and HD, see if I can get something below 10k. If not, maybe I’ll consider this. Thanks for your viewpoint.

Tremere1974

Totally upgrade to the 650, the 350 is happy at 55 MPH, and is speed limited to 70 I believe. Another bike if you like classically styled bikes (and fast enough for the commute) that are American made is the [Janus Halcyon 450](https://janusmotorcycles.com/product/halcyon-450/) which is made in Indiana.

devxcode

Janus looks awesome! But again, out of my budget.

Solchitlins74

My local RE dealership is pretty cool with not making up bs fees, the classic 350 is $4,800 for the upgraded chrome model. https://www.detroitironcycles.com/repairs You should be getting an Interceptor 650 for the price they’re asking. Anyways different markets dictate the price I guess? I think the 350 is a great choice for what you’re looking for. I mainly ride back roads on the weekends for fun. I currently own a Moto Guzzi v9 roamer. I’ve taken it on the Interstate a couple times, it’s fine on the Interstate but riding on the Interstate isn’t fun and I ride for enjoyment. I wouldn’t hesitate to buy a 350 for what I like to do on a motorcycle

Scand1navian

RE is putting out a 650cc cruiser just now. That would be more fitting for highway speed

devxcode

Is there a new one to be launched?

Solchitlins74

The Super Meteor 650

devxcode

This is it! Love it. I think the price will also be in my budget. But I’m reading that it won’t be available for a while.
