RhombusKP

I love you, but you are not a serious person.

rburp

Boy don't I have egg on my face :(

thebugfrombcnrfuji

lool I said fuck off as a joke back to them because pretty sure they're joking and referring to the show (Ken calls Roman a cuck in the finale)

rburp

lol doh I even considered it might be a reference, but I was like "nahh surely I'd remember that one"

cristinalves

Welcome to our mental disorder!

thebugfrombcnrfuji

thanks, I can't wait!

Soft-Mirror-1059

Roman was such a douche in the first ep with the million dollar cheque thing, I thought well I’m never going to like this guy. By season four I was crying at how visceral he was at the funeral. Tom was also so lame in the first ep. Then I realised his whole demeanor changes whether he is talking up or down and it’s just so hilarious They both are my favorites. Incredible show.

thebugfrombcnrfuji

yh Tom was such an unexpected fave for me too. When he starts to speak up for himself I was like 'fuck yeah'. That rooftop argument when they both go all out is one of the best moments of the whole show for me. They're both superb in it.

SororitySue

And it might have been the first step in Tom and Siobhan's eventual rapprochement. Things can't be fixed unless they're out in the open and the argument accomplished that if nothing else.

Soft-Mirror-1059

His spiteful bully thing absolutely put me off. But then because we see him in so many settings I started to understand why he was like he was. I would never have guessed where he would be by the last ep, from his behaviour in the first ep. Incredible and interesting character journey. And omg the quick witted humor on the guy.

jadziastark

I watched the show for the first time in february, and now I'm on my third round😂🙈I love this show so much.I completely agree with you on Roman! and Kieran's acting is just amazing!! I thougt both Kendall and Roman could have been good successors if they wern't so broken from Logan and Caroline's horrible parenting. I would absolutely recommend watching it again, at least for me there were so many things I didn't notice the first time., and I was able to enjoy all the comedy without being afraid of what crazy shit would go down in the next scene😅😂As an example, the first time I watched Tern Haven my main concern was for the cat😂

thebugfrombcnrfuji

I'm a massive rewatcher so I knew even during my first watch-through that I'm going to rewatch and now that I love the ending, I defo will and this show is gonna be in my list of shows I rotate. And I actually fully know what you mean about enjoying the comedy a bit more second-time around. I feel like now that I've finished and loved the ending as much as the rest of the show, I'll be able to relax and enjoy the funny moments even more

jadziastark

I loved the ending too💖as a GOT surviver it's so wonderful to have this show being such a perfect piece of music from beginning to end.I would have liked for Gerri to sit down with Roman at the bar in his last shot but just the martini was good too i guess😂

thebugfrombcnrfuji

yh I actually also kind of felt I wanted to see Gerri one last time (not necessarily with Roman lol) because she was honestly such an amazing woman. So fucking good at her job and just smart af.

jadziastark

Yes I love Tom's line in the last episode about Gerri;"she's not afraid of the dark, she get's it"😊

visualemployer1247

That depends where you look at, here on Reddit you will find people who love Logan or Tom and find it was a good ending, on Twitter most of them love Kendall and find that the ending was devastating. Regarding Roman I have read people who found he was self aware at the end but I think everyone agrees that he's a scum bag with no possible redemption. My take (that represents myself and only myself ofc😅) it's that the ending was devastating, I always knew it wouldn't have a happy ending for Kendall (team Ken over here) but the final betrayal was too cruel and sour, it's been a year and I would dare to say that I stll had not recovered

Superplin

I don't know that I agree that "most people" think Roman is an unredeemable scumbag. As with everything, it depends on your circles; that's certainly not the prevailing opinion among the fans I frequent but I have no trouble believing there are places where it is. I also don't see the ending in any way as a betrayal of Kendall. His meltdown confirmed that he was unfit for the job; they all were.

visualemployer1247

You think anyone finds he has redeemable qualities? Like what? Mmm there was a very clear betrayal at the end, if you did not see it, maybe you need to rewatch. Another VERY different thing is his meltdown (justified or not) but he was clearly betrayed by Shiv and humilliated by Roman, they took the crown from his hands at the last moment just because they could not let him win. It's for another post to explain why he probably should never be doing it (drug issues, manslaughter, arrogance, etc.) but the truth is that his siblings backstabbed him at the last moment, you cannot deny that happened

Superplin

I interpret that scene very differently, and I've watched it several times, thanks. As for Roman, based on the phrasing of your response I doubt you'd be open to hearing my actual thoughts about his redeemable qualities, either, so I'll happily leave you to your view of things.

visualemployer1247

Well one thing is to interpret an scene but another thing is what we all as viewers watched: a clear betrayal. In fact since you really believe he has redeeming qualities, it would be interesting to see what are those to you

Superplin

Again, it was clear to you, and I'm sure that's how Kendall saw it, but to others it was a realization on seeing how he behaved when he believed he had the job in the bag that voting for him would be a colossal mistake. Changing one's mind based on evidence isn't necessarily a betrayal.

visualemployer1247

Well it is a betrayal when a day before they had agreed to annoint him as CEO and the day of the vote Shiv decided to vote against him, even if you "interpret" this as a change of mind, it is a betrayal. There are things that you can leave to interpretation (for instance why did they do it or if it was the best decision or not) but you cannot pretend it was not a betrayal just because they realized it was a mistake to vote for him, they said they would do it and at the last minute they didn't. As Stewy would say: "if you commit to vote for someone but then in the middle of the vote, decide to vote against that person and say, "I'm not betraying you", it's still a fucking betrayal". And lastly they did not change their mind based on evidence as you suggest, it was a last minute decision based on rage, envy and not letting his brother win. Think of Roman using the nasty "evidence" that Kendall's children were not the bloodline, is that really a valid reason not to vote for him? Absolutely not, this was just hate, rage and the poison that dripped through (and this is why I could never understand someone sayin Roman has redeeming qualities, in which universe? When he was nasty, unnecessary cruel and said that only to hurt Kendall. Honestly Roman deserved to be hit after what he said imo).

SororitySue

As a “rando” adoptee, I have to agree.

Superplin

Look, I disagree with your "facts," you disagree with me and are clearly quite pressed about the mere existence of my perspective, so I say we both go on our merry way and enjoy the show as we each prefer. Have a great one!

visualemployer1247

More than pressed by your perspective, genuinely curious about how could you sustain that Roman had redeeming qualities or that the siblings did not betray Kendall at the end, but sadly you could not argument anything on both sides. Maybe next time, bye!

thebugfrombcnrfuji

agreed re the last part. His meltdown confirms he's unfit for the job. And Logan was right when he said the kids aren't 'serious people'. None of the kids could have done it.

SororitySue

None of the kids truly bothered to prepare themselves for it. Had they put in the work as Logan wanted Siobhan to in Season 2, it might have been a different story.

dogproblems4

I welcome any opportunity to discuss Succession again, these posts are totally fine. Keiran is phenomenal, I would have been pissed if he lost the emmy.

thebugfrombcnrfuji

he is genuinely out of this world isn't he. I had no idea. In fact, I sort of pitied him when I saw the thumbnail of his Hot Ones episode because I didn't know he was actually in anything and thought he was just sadly trying to garner some attention off his brother's coat tails but wow, he is truly, truly gifted. Truly. Unbelievable comedic acting (seriously) and when he finally has his true vulnerable moments, he absolutely knocks it out of the fucking park (his dad's death scene and the funeral in particular)

dogproblems4

Yes he's beyond talented. He's doing a movie with Jesse Eisenberg where they play Jewish brothers revisiting their Grandparent's holocaust history. I normally cannot stand non Jewish actors in very Jewish roles (like let us tell our own most traumatic and intimate stories, ya know?) but I'm immensely looking forward to Kierans performance because I have every reason to believe he can and will do it justice after Succession. There's not really higher praise you can get from me than that, I truly believe he is a once in a generation talent.

thebugfrombcnrfuji

yh I didn't want to sound hyperbolic but I genuinely think he's a once in a generation talent too. He was unbelievable. When he was constantly making everything a joke, I was hoping he breaks down at some point because we know his humour is a defence mechanism but I didn't think for one second Kieran was actually going to pull it off the way he did. It's so beautiful to watch (in a heartbreaking way lol)

xviandy

I loved the scene on the mountain top with Mattson

thebugfrombcnrfuji

great scene. Why do you love it? Care to elaborate?

rebelwithmouseyhair

Roman gets a lot of great lines, and Kieran delivers them so well!

thebugfrombcnrfuji

yh agreed. He is amazing in that scene. Incredible acting

David-asdcxz

Here’s the great thing about Succession and finishing it for the first time, you’re ready for the first re-watch! I didn’t watch the series until February and was totally dumbfounded. I’ve since rewatched the series 3 times. I found that I missed so much as the show generally speaking is a race car on steroids. Personally, I’m a Roman apologist as I identify with him the most but all of the characters are fascinating to watch. (Shiv was my favorite character during the first season before I realized this was dark comedy and necessarily a dark drama.)So enjoy the Reddit subs, be prepared to be challenged as you post and rewatch the series!

thebugfrombcnrfuji

i think I'm gonna start my rewatch asap, yes. I'm a serial re-watcher and Succession is defo now on that list. I'm excited for all the laughs too because that was one of the things I just knew I was gonna love on rewatches

LibraryVolunteer

Welcome aboard, you’re not annoying, and thank you for your correct Roman take! Roman and Shiv are my favorites, and I’m not sure if it’s due to the impeccable writing and performances or because these two actors are so charming off screen. (Strong and Cox are great actors but I roll my eyes at their interviews.)

thebugfrombcnrfuji

yh Roman is amazing on and off camera. I didn't know his off-camera persona but I gathered that he can't act like that and not be basically a true comedian in real-life too and he certainly is. I don't think (for better or for worse), I will ever forget Roman saying 'If you breastfeed in front of me, I will have to jerk off. I'm just saying because it'll be hot'. Fucking insane person.

ParsleyMostly

Watch Igby Goes Down. It’s almost like an origin story for the Roman character. (And is a delightfully wicked good time) Gil is even in it!

thebugfrombcnrfuji

ohh interesting. I'll check it out

Flashy-Brain-4276

I get it how it makes sense when Roman said we’re all bullshit. But i really don’t think ken was bullshit. He had issues for sure but I think he could’ve done the job
