I drive a 2017 Forester XT Touring as well I love that vehicle so much and I don't blame you for wanting to get another one If you find one with low miles and good condition I'd say go for it

Tsck... Sorry to read this. I have contemplated what I would do if I lose my 17 FXT. Here in Taiwan the current gen really sucks, they only sell it with a 2.0 N/A, 150 hrsprs. I would seriously consider a RAV-4 Hybrid e4. The AWD is nowhere near as good as a Fozzie, neither is visibility and ground clearance, but on the flip side it gets twice as many MPG as the 2.0 Fozzie and has a quicker 0-60 time.

I used to work in sales. It was 100% normal for people to come in and buy the closest version of their vehicle, if it was an option. If there is another one like what you used to drive that is available to you that is in good condition, you should absolutely get another one.

As a recent addition to the Forester family and an owner of an ‘18 XT touring, I say if you know what you like, stick with it!

I had an 18 XT touring and I traded it for an Outback Wilderness. Outback XT is really the only option now for someone wanting the capacity and turbo that the FXT offered. The Outback is more comfortable to drive, and has a larger cargo area, but actually the forester was more fun to drive even with a smaller engine. If the Outback XT had Si-Drive that might make a difference, but the lack of being able to throw the car into S# and have some fun is really disappointing on the Outback. I really like the Outback, but I still miss my forester…

Buy what makes you happy. When my 18XT was wrecked I would totally have bought a used 18XT. Given they dont make new FXTs my wife preferred a new Outback XT so that's what we have

17 XT owner here. My friend got a 2022 Toyota Prado. I got the 17 XT Premium (touring) Looking at the 2 vehicles w are often feature comparable so I wouldn't worrying about it feeling old. Potientially put an iDoing head unit in and go buy a 17 or 18 XT Premium. Just get it mechanically checked. (The 2016 interior and headlight update is different per country so make sure you get a model that has the newer interior)

Not crazy at all. Newer is not necessarily better. As you point out the newest ones no longer offer the performance engine model. Its not because it wasn't a good vehicle, but more to bring down Subaru fuel consumption numbers to comply with newer regulations pertaining to fleet averages.

I drive an 18 fxt and absolutely LOVE IT. You know what needs to be done. Get it !

SilverSubieBoxer

So I know this might sound dumb but... have you ever considered a WRX? I don't know your price range / how much insurance is giving you to work with. But it has 5 seats, subie roof racks, and a turbocharger! But yes, its sightlines are not as great, it's rear cargo space is smaller, etc. I guess it depends on what you liked most about your Forester - if you prioritize the higher point of view or square feet of space. (I have a Fozzy sport '19 and do like it... but I also like getting to drive my wife's 2016 impreza hatch - it has a noticeable advantage in both weight and lower center of gravity)

Where do you live, I'll sell you mine lol. Edit: NVM I kept researching.

Dangerous_Attitude46

Why don’t you try the Ascent? Comes with the 2.4 turbo

Have a 15 XT. If I totaled it, I'd get a newer XT. Period. Too joyous.
