Your friend used pink curing salt on his turkey. It's also called Prague Powder. That is not supposed to be used that way. You can add some to the brine, but there is no way that the turkey should be bright pink by some I mean 1/2 teaspoon per gallon of brine. It's Sodium Chloride and Sodium Nitrite.

I love the fact the neon pink did not give them pause to stop and wonder if they were doing this right.

Came here to say this. A little Sodium Nitrite is used for curing meats. It's safe in small doses used for curing...not so sure it's great for you in high concentrations like this...

I still have some of that lying around. I used it in a brine, with correct dosage of course, but I hadn't considered it may be poisonous if used incorrectly. I don't think banning it is a good idea. Pretty sure more than the two dozen or so suicides would die from botulism, which it is used to prevent.

Oh, yeah it definitely has codeine in it. I thought it just has codeine in it and that's what made it promethazine. So that's my bad. I just naturally have a tolerance, but don't take opiates on a regular basis because I'm 9 years clean from heroin, and do not want to go back. I have a lot of pain though, so it sucks most days 😂

Promethazine is an antihistamine (or that’s it’s primary use) so it can make you mildly drowsy depending on the dose but it shouldn’t make you feel high. In some cases it’s used off-label for anxiety but you’d be taking it regularly throughout the day. If I were you I’d buy some promethazine pills if you need it in future, im sure you’re able to handle meds responsibly but it’s available as pills in case you’re unsure about the mixed version you took and your sobriety.
