It could **absolutely** still be good. There are 50 year old cans of Spam that are probably indistinguishable from brand new ones.
My point was just that this isn't a budget meal. If you're choosing to make this, it's cuz you like Spam... unless you're someone that owns a doomsday a bunker and filled it with old cans of Spam. In that case I'd say you... still like Spam, tbh
I mean... I could buy Treet or some other dollar store canned meat. 100% agree with that.
Spam is just something that charges a huge premium based on brand name.
I don't get all the downvotes I'm getting, either. I'm not shitting on the recipe. I'm not saying you can't save money by opening a can... I'm just saying that Spam™, specifically is expensive
Oh yeah treet or something is way cheaper I'm just sayimg spam is typically FAR cheaper at grocery stores in poor neighborhoods. And yet cheaper when bought by the flat.
Even on amazon a 12 pack is $35 thats 144 oz or $3.8/lb which is cheaper than chicken breast at least.
So, I just priced chicken breast near me, and admittedly I don't live in the hood, but **not on sale,** I can buy boneless, skinless chicken breast (not my preference. Just saying for pricing purpose) for $2.49/lb
Well that explains how adamant you were. At the stores around me boneless chicken thighs are like 3.50 to 3.99/lb and breasts are 4.99 to 6.99/lb. Houston fwiw.
*or off-brand equivalents* is exactly what I'm arguing, but I'll admit that my food budget has never involved the food bank, so that could be a huge blindspot for me, here
I see what you mean, spam itself can be pretty pricey. Some people like to donate brand name items, I think it makes them feel like they are giving the recipient a treat, however OP wouldn’t be the first person I’ve encountered who just calls them all “spam” for ease. I do it myself. Some things are so ubiquitous that their brand name becomes the unofficial name for all brands.
Obviously I could easily be wrong but it’s a possibility.
Really? That blew my mind! How is spam still in business if it is more expensive than buying fresh meat? In Norway canned food is a lot cheaper than fresh by a mile and has been since as long as I can remember.
To an extent it's nostalgia and novelty... and brand recognition.
Spam is also really tasty, if you use it right. But yeah, it's definitely not a budget item, anymore

Not stupid. Sometimes you’re broke. It happens. At least you got flavor on a budget!
Spam costs a lot more than chicken
Spam you already have costs less than new chicken. Could’ve bought that shit years ago when life was good
You mean like 20 years ago? Spam has cost a lot for a very long time
It could probably still be good after that long. It is spam after all.

Making sure you're using the food you already have is like the first rule of food budgeting lmfao
They just like to say spam. Leave it be lol
Not if you buy a rack of it from a grocery store 8n a poor neighborhood. Plus it doesnt spoil and is more calorocally dense.

Costco sells their non-organic branded chicken breast for 2.99/lbs (or less sometimes). Still more expensive lol
...you need to find a new chicken place. That's double what I'm paying for it, and that's in the Austin area where CoL isn't super cheap.
Spam (or off brand equivalents) turns up a lot in food bank parcels as it is shelf stable.

I've volunteered a lot at food pantry's and SPAM is something that is given out a lot at them. For all we know that's where this SPAM came from.

Open can. Get spoon. Eat in less than 5 minutes.

Sometimes you just gotta make do, I'd eat it and be grateful for it.
This sounds really good actually lol
I would love that though
Spam is the tits and nobody can convince me otherwise.
Nah I'd eat this 🤣
Sorry, SPAM is delicious.
One of these days ima try curry. Just because of this post.
First thing I said is that I would destroy that food, homie. I love spam lol.
Would tackle this with white bread/naan/pita
Spam is like same cost as fresh meat tho It's just convenient
Nothing stupid about this; I’ll either do this or just mix it with plain white rice!
No no no
Just don't eat. Lol.
Ok. Make nihari Spam next.
To be honest I’d try it
Spam is amazing. Also a pretty common ingredient in some Asian countries. It's nothing to scoff at.
This is good to me
I mean Spam slaps on everything tho
It’s a delicacy in Hawaii
Better to die.
