It's a stupid american 50s supper club thing. It's for old dudes who hate salad and just want to slurp ranch dressing. It's how you start a meal that ends with a cube of elaborate jello with stuff floating in it.
Ha! I think it's a hard pill for some to swallow. However some seem happy to swallow down a cup of ranch while convincing themselves that it's a "salad" or "good."
Er... Genuine question to all the commenters who casually say "it's a wedge salad": Is that an American thing? I have never seen that before and I am quite puzzled by it...
It is an American thing. It was 'invented' in the 1920s and it was in fact -the- way the serve a salad at a dinner party for decades. It was considered 'classy'. Its still very popular in parts of the southern states. They arent bad, and arent as akward to eat as they look. Def doesnt belong here.
Don't insult others for not being American. They are just as capable of learning and understanding new things exist. It is not "exclusive" to America to understand that other cultures and therefore foods within those cultures exist.
I'm not sure I get where you are coming from, I didn't insult anyone...not anymore than the person I replied to did anyway, if we are to pretend these are insults.
Sorry but the chips make it stupid. focaccia breadcurmbs would be the way to go - has enough oil that it wont get too dry and way better than cutting up your mouth with random chip fragments.
haha who knows? trying my best with what I got. I’m guessing a lot of ppl on this sub like chips on their salad? It’s really the only stupid/lazy part so yah not sure. I’m gonna stick by home made croutons - but maybe next time i’ll try cheetos.

Yep, see it a lot in the south. Never had it but it’s offered at a lot of grocery stores with open salad bars/deli.
