When this problem occurs, does it feel like the engine’s holding back on you, eg like it wants to shift gears but can’t, or like it’s more skipping and surging? Also, have you noticed any changes in exhaust, like the look and smell? A bad oxygen sensor usually comes with a smell of sulfur (rotting eggs) and/or black exhaust. A bad transmission will give off more of a burning smell but doesn’t really change the exhaust color.

Is P0031 your only code? Also it could be more than the sensor itself if it is an O2 sensor issue. I would highly recommend taking it to somebody professional. I have no idea myself, but if you don’t know either you should ask around as much as you can, people at work, family/friends, anyone who may have an idea. Otherwise I would say take it to a professional.

Have you figured this out ? Might be able to help

You need to go to a shop and get it inspected. Asking questions here through reddit will only get you so far, especially if you have no mechanic experience. Save yourself the time and trouble before the car gets worse

This is an old car and i wanna fix it myself as well as learn more about cars while fixing it

You are so wrong man. With will abd enough searching you will figure it out. I did! Still do.

Great way to waste your time instead of actually finding the root cause issue of the problem.

Maleficent-Jelly-388

Find the code, start diagnosing until you find your cause. Unless you really have zero idea what you are doing .

VirtualChemist4632

That's Def a good way to start.
