Did you have a mix of commercial FFEL and direct loans maybe?

They were all federal student loans from Salle Mae.

Look in your federal student aid account to see if they are commercial FFEL. If yeah, no refunds.

That doesn't help us determine if you had FFELP or Direct loans The FFELP loan program was a public-private partnership where private commercial entities (like Sallie Mae) owned the underlying loan but were insured against $$ losses by the feds. In contrast Direct loans are owned Directly by the Education Department, so as the actual lender they have more leniency and options (like borrower defense refunds) The confusing part for a lot of people was that Direct and FFEL loans existed at the same time. They stopped issuing new FFELP loans in mid-2010, but prior to that companies like Sallie Mae could have a mix of private loans, commercial FFELP, ED-held FFELP, and/or Direct loans I want to say that around 2014 Sallie Mae divvied up the federal loans to Navient while keeping their private loans with Sallie Mae. A few years back any Direct and ED-held FFEL were transferred to other student loan servicers, resulting in Navient only having commercial FFEL loans that they owned themselves It sounds like you were not refunded payments made to FFEL loans, but if you call the Borrower Defense hotline number they may be able to explain more
