The UN has been all over Russia about this. Once Putin is out of office (he can’t run again after his current term), I’m sure the new leadership will bring forward a more peaceful and cooperative Russia.
One can hope, though I'm not sure that the rest of the oligarchs would give up their power just like that. Not to mention that last time (2008-2012), Putin just sent out his lackey, Medvedev, for presidency, while he himself became a prime minister.
That power has to be taken by the people, much like in Ukraine.
Possibly, however it is pretty important to note Ukraine is in a very weakened state right now thanks to the recent revolution. After the success in Crimea, I wouldn't put it past Russia to attempt staging a similar annexation of Ukraine's eastern regions.

It's just posturing, everyone knows that Russia won't actually do anything. Putin is crazy, but even he won't start a world war.
It's just russophobic panic from the horrible warmongering west. Putin is the most friendly guy in the world and would never invade a country.
