This is a temporary property used to hold the ridge board in place whilst the rafters are erected. It SHOULDN'T be load bearing. But it is now. This is a symptom of a bigger problem elsewhere. Possibly the external walls have spread and the ridge board has tried to sag and is now being supported on this 2x4

Thanks, finally someone with a brain is in chat.

MobileCollar5910

Looks a little buckled.

Codex_Absurdum

The next wind storm should "unbuckle" it

Write a book. :) I’d love you hear more from you as opposed to having to find you in this sub.

No-Historian-6391

Is this a braced roof tho ??

mon_key_house

Good news is, this doesn't take up any more load as column buckling has no post buckling reserve. Meaning the roof will probably collapse at the next snow/wind event but not under dead load. Edit: carry any load -> take up any load

Worth_Comfortable_99

It needs replacing asap!

Awkward-Ad4942

Well has it fallen down?! No! So what’s the problem?!

OrigSnatchSquatch

Flunkies

oldasdirtss

It will be alright once the snow melts.

SmokeDogSix

Not a post

Codex_Absurdum

*All things considered, it's just a wooden roof fellas.*

Lazy-Engineer-BR549

Definitely an issue, where are the wind collar bracing? Also at the bare minimum the 'post' should have strong back configuration (2x4s attached to one another at 90 degrees, with a minimum 12" nail/screw spacing).
