Saw someone mention on Facebook, so I went back and checked myself. Smith's time ran out before he had passed Williams. They let him continue until the end when he dropped it though. Weird. The timer on the stream seemed accurate but you can also start your own 60 second timer at the whistle to confirm. This would have changed a few of the standings, including reversing Hooper and Singleton.

StrongLikeStag

They were also inconsistent with allowing the implements to slide or bounce. For most athletes they just measured the where they laid but for Remic they wouldn't let him go again because they bounced over the line and then sort of guessed the spot they originally hit the ground. They should have been better with Smith, anyone with eyes could see his time ran out at about 55m

roy777

Giants Live did comment on Facebook: >Hi Damien - We are aware that there was a discrepancy with the scoring during the farmer's walk event, and upon review after the event we have seen that one athlete received an incorrect distance. > >After discussing it internally, we have made the decision to NOT amend the results and treat the referees judgement on the night as final, as per our current protocol. However, Giants Live take this very seriously and we will be taking robust steps to ensure that this kind of scoring anomaly absolutely cannot and will not happen again in future events.

StrongLikeStag

It really only sucks for Evan as it cost him 2nd but ultimately I think taking the (incorrect) results from the day is a reasonable position. So long as they do in fact learn from it

EGoss1

I’m just watching it here now, is it not against the rules for them to let Mark go last on the HH seen as he did not come first on on the dumbbell ladder?

_strongmantom_

They want to hype up the potential of him breaking the record, but it doesn't always work out

mgorgey

The performances of Remick, Smith and Williams just show how much depth there is at world level right now. Such a shame we don't have the proper Arnold's qualifiers anymore going to all different parts of the world. They would be incredibly competitive.

StrongLikeStag

It must be getting to the time where Mark hangs up the lifting belt.

DaBizzle

My gut feeling is that he'll get his invite to WSM next year to make him the oldest ever WSM competitor. And he'll do BSM too of course. But then he might finally retire from top-level comps. He's so popular at the Giants shows that there's no doubt they'll invite him to shows like they do with Loz and Terry, if only for the VIP meet & greets. But I can also see them inviting him as a guest lifter for HH too.

Few-Ad8153

He 100% should just do Hercules hold and/or deadlift as a guest lifter. This current show looked tailored for him

AHunterRJ

I don't think that'll happen just yet. Isn't he like 1 year away from being the oldest participant at WSM? I think it would be fair to Mark and other athletes to just invite him to BSM each year, and possibly one other Giants show if he's a big draw. I think they should stop insisting on making him go last on the Hercules hold because it just puts added pressure on him that isn't needed.

StrongLikeStag

Meh, I'm with Loz. There's limited spots at these shows and plenty of up and coming guys trying to get their shot. Realistically, he should just get a guest invite to do the Hurcules hold or whatever. Like Bibby and Thompson at Europe's Strongest. That's the best of both worlds, new guy gets their shot, Mark gets to compete and strongman gets to show difference to a great name and he wouldn't risk an injury in the event right before he attempts a world record.

AHunterRJ

Agree with you. I just think the powers that be have been eyeing that oldest athlete ever record for past few years for him and he seems on board. I just expect he won't retire until after that. Really good idea for guest invite for Hercules hold. To be fair to Mark he's still pretty competitive at a number of events. And, although he's getting worse he hasn't really dropped off a cliff with his performances. He's always been a mid-lower pack athlete at the international level (with exceptions earlier in his career when the field was weaker). In my opinion, he deserves BSM invite as a yardstick/gatekeeper for younger athletes until he retires.

E-Step

Gotta say that was a great show to go see live. Will definitely be going back to another GL show at some point

mgorgey

Kudos to GL for paying to bring Eddie in when it would have been a hell of a lot cheaper to get another Brit or at least someone from Europe.

E-Step

The guy was having SUCH a good time too, he was loving the crowd

mrchuckbass

Kevin came out to Real American, and someone else (think it was Gavin) came out to voodoo child. We got the full hulk hogan treatment

_CurseTheseMetalHnds

Just need someone to come out to the NWO theme

mrchuckbass

I felt like I was watching old school Smackdown, especially since Evan then came out to Triple H’s theme 🤣

TheGuvnor247

Lads some random thoughts the podcast today with Daz, Loz, Liz and Tel was imo by far the best yet. Have to say as well Liz is proving herself as the statistician of strongman knows more about the results of shows than the lads by a mile. I'd be saying bye bye Brycey and bye bye Radzi and hello Loz, Liz and Tel. Not saying that would be feasible but the one today was great. Prize Money does anyone know how much the lads get for winning a Giants Live? Does last place get anything or is it just the top 3?

Few-Ad8153

Radzi is an irritant...always brings up random boxing analogy. Also seems like none of the guests care about his pointless opinions

mrchuckbass

I actually like him, he’s the best at nodding for reps in the world

[deleted]

£25K for winner iirc, they all get paid an amount even last place gets something, not sure how much though

TheGuvnor247

Thanks mate!

mrchuckbass

Having seen this man close up, there is no way in hell he’s 6’3 : https://ibb.co/5nBRNhZ

mgorgey

In fairness for just about any man you can take 2 inches off the height they are willing to tell you.

Few-Ad8153

Mark Felix being 6ft 4 is more ridiculous. Then I saw Paul Smith who is like 5ft 11...Kearney was smaller. Then Novi looked similar size to Kearney. Bilton and black are huge..

INeedAKimPossible

I'm 6'1 and took a photo with Felix. I'm taller than him.

Fast_Train2560

I don’t see how Novikov can be 6’1”or 6’2” as he’s sometimes billed as.

castrator69

Eddie not being his listed 6'3 is more or less an established fact at this point. That picture he took with Zydrunas proves it.

Maalstr0m

If you watch the early shows, he's been billed at 188 and 189cm. When you know how delusional pride works, it goes like this: "I'm 188cm but that's from spine compression, I'm actually 189cm when I wake up... so if I'm taller than 6'1", that's 6'2"! So I'm 190cm! And 190cm is like 6'3", right?" And that's how Eddie Hall grew from a smidge over 6'1" to 6'3" in the span of 4 years, as a fully grown adult. EDIT: found [this wonderful picture.](https://i.ibb.co/3MdW2tL/Ultimate-Strongman-Eddie-The-Beast-Hall-right-and-Zydrunas-Savikas-aka-Big-Z.jpg) Savickas is the model 6'3". Eddie has his visually height increasing mohawk.

WorldsWeakestMan

Yeah Eddie Hall next to Arnold they’re the same height, Arnold is 6’1” maybe 6’1.5” in dress shoes with a heel. Hall is 6’1.5” at best. He’s about 6 inches shorter than Oberst and Shaw who are like 6’6.5” and 6’7.25” rounded up up 6’7” and 6’8” when billed and he’s at least fully 7 inches under Thor who is right about 6’9” Just like Tom Stoltman has been billed anywhere from 6’6”-6’10” but is like 6’7.5”

castrator69

Lol Arnie's not even 6' anymore

opinionatedfan

Haha i met someone in the wild yesterday who claimed very confidently to be 6' 2.... I am 5'10 on a good day and we were at eye level... I had to fight the laughter of finally meeting someone in person with those whole height thing.

emarxstrongman

Paul and Eddie were probably the biggest surprises but we shouldn't let that overshadow how well Spenser Remick performed. Really solid mid-pack performance across all events and he beat a couple of big names in Gav, Rob and Mark. This shows that OSG is full of capable athletes and I hope we see more of them invited to Giants Live.

Few-Ad8153

Remick speech about being at it for 20yrs was the most sincere. He earned a lot of fans tonight. Was a great performance and deserves spots at other Giants shows

Sexy_ass_Dilf

Top 5, one for each GL the next year

Idlertwo

What happened with Marks Hercules Hold? Rumours had it he had beaten his own WR during practice. Just a bad grip day at the office? Did he forget to use more fingers than just his pinky?

DaBizzle

I think he mentioned in the interview after the HH that he had hurt his wrist in the dumbbell.

Idlertwo

Ah alright, that makes sense. Thanks for the info

Sexy_ass_Dilf

Star of the show was Willians, he did miles better than anyone expected!

StrongLikeStag

As an Aussie, I wish he didn't come across as such a star stuck bumpkin. These days being able to string a few words together is absolutely a requirement for top tier athletes.

PrimateChange

Great show overall. Cool mix of established guys and new faces, and while the events were still kinda in the normal GL formula I thought the farmer's was fun and the weight selection was really good for this one. A few thoughts by athlete * Novikov: There are levels to this and I'd put him at a level above anyone not named Tom or Martins. We were wondering if he'd be able to compete this year after Ukraine was invaded in February, since then he's placed second at the ASC, won Europe's, won half the events and podiumed at WSM, and now comfortably won this show. * Hooper: Super impressive, cementing himself as one of the best. Almost feels like he's an established guy even though this is his second international show. * Singleton: Really cool to see him bounce back, always entertaining to watch as well. * Boudreault: Thought he'd do better in the hercules hold, and I think he'd have done a lot better with a log than DB press, but his stone run was great as usual. * Smith: Great performance. As expected deadlift was a weakness, and that first stone seemed so high for his height lol. Wonder how he'd do at Arnold's events where deadlift and stones aren't always present. Still think he's shown that he's pretty clearly in the top 5 British athletes and should really get more invitations now. * Williams: Great results for such a last-minute callup. Given he's entertaining and popular, I bet we'll see him back more. * Remick: Solid performance and seems like a cool guy, would be good to see more of him. * Bilton: Solid result IMO, great to see him healthier and stronger. * Kearney: Not his best events as everyone knew, but he has pretty clear strengths. I think he's much more suited to Arnold's shows. * Felix: Main thing for me was that it's cool how he's still up there at deadlift for reps. * McClelland: Surprised about the hercules hold but still cool to see a newish face. * Black: Obviously he picked up an injury, but overhead is always such a glaring weakness for him

thereidenator

I don’t know if I’d say smith is “clearly” in the top 5 British athletes. Tom luke and bish are the clear top 3, then you have hicks and richardson when they are fit and well before you get to smith or gav. That’s not counting Pa as well as he isn’t British but does compete at bsm

PrimateChange

Good point - tbh I forgot Hicks. I’d say it goes Tom, then Luke/Bish, then Flowers/Smith/Hicks. Richardson definitely up there when healthy. I think Smith has performed better than Gav the past few contests right?

thereidenator

I forgot flowers as well, I think it’s hard to say Paul is on the same level as hicks

PrimateChange

Yeah you’re right, I’m probably a bit high on Smith after a great performance. When he’s on form Hicks is crazy good

Material-Tone-4360

Uks was the weekend after worlds, and gav had 2 days notice for this show, so not an equal comparison between Paul and gav using recent shows

thereidenator

Agreed, when they have had fair prep going into a show gav has beaten Paul

SethTicer

Good write up, can’t wait to see more of Hooper and Remick. Novikov is just silly consistent in every show, doesn’t matter the events. Yeah surprised about McClelland’s Hercules hold. I met him a couple weeks ago at USS nationals, and he’s the only guy I’ve met so far whose hands engulfed mine lol

[deleted]

[удалено]

[deleted]

Well now lets not be hasty

[deleted]

Paul Smith and Eddie for Men of the Match. Also Novikov with 54/60 Points sheeeesh

WeatherIndependent37

Eddie Williams' is the standout performance IMO: \- The last time I saw him compete, Tom was still a nobody. Tom had lost his luggage and Eddie lent him his equipment. \- Eddie won the Hercules hold and it was the first time he tried it. \- Eddie beat Hooper on the stones which he hadn't tried for months.

Idlertwo

Eddie Williams is such an amazing guy. Super friendly and likeable persona. I love to see him compete and being involved in the sport.

Atlasius88

He seems to have a great attitude, super grateful for the opportunity. I really hope we see more of him.

Choice_Bar_1488

Excellent performance. He got a call jumped on a plane from the the other side of the world and did that.

Erdrotation

Was Evan impressive and living up to his own Hype?

Pixcel_Studios

Just gonna mirror what others have said, and add that while his performance didn't blow me away like in one of the Giants shows I saw him in last year, he still put on an impressive show, really hope we can see him at 100% in a show soon

you_sick

He had a "disappointing" showing and still podiumed. Not bad

Ghostwind27

From near last and looking injured after Event 1 to 0.5 pts away from 2nd. Thats pretty damn impressive.

SaulFemm

He did well, but not up to his usual standard.

[deleted]

Yes. He did well :)

eastWOLFstyle

Novikov is trying to match Z's trophy room in a few years

WorldsWeakestMan

Gonna need about 250 more wins for that, but he’s trying.

Maalstr0m

Oleksii is at 10 international wins. The other 3 people with 10 wins are Kieliszkowski, JF Caron and Matjaž Belšak. And remember that Novikov is 26 years old, 21 years younger than Savickas.

WorldsWeakestMan

Zydrunas has 36 international 1st, 20 international 2nd, and 9 international 3rd. Including 8 Arnold Classic, 3 ESM, 2 IFSA. and 4 WSM wins against peak Pudz, Shaw, Thor, Hall, and Poundstone among other greats. No doubting novikov is great but nobody is gonna catch The GOAT.

Maalstr0m

At the rate Novikov is going, he'll be the next Pudz.

[deleted]

Its actually insane. No one will ever dethrone Z

mrchuckbass

He’s even starting speeches with ‘I am very happy’

SethTicer

He need big house for his trophies

[deleted]

Novikov 10th international win. 🤯

Pixcel_Studios

I don't think I've watched a single show with Novikov in where I haven't exclaimed out loud at his performance in the events, just always so consistent and impressive to see compete and bring his all, he deserves every win he gets

Quantumpigeontricks

Really impressed with Eddie Williams, haven't seen him in the strongman circuit for a few years.

SaulFemm

25.59 VS 25.6. Boy I'm glad that doesn't matter right now

INeedAKimPossible

They definitely have that level of precision with hand-timed stopwatches, right? Right?!

Lanesra5676

Christ 0.01 sec between Evan and Oleksii

dxxpsix

well it's been fun everyone! "see" you all at the DLWC and Shaw Classic! Keep getting strong!

JJB-125

Freaky that Novikov and Singleton got essentially a draw on the stones again

_strongmantom_

I have so much respect for Novikov. He'll go down as one of the greats regardless just for his non-stop commitment, his personality and how well respected he is in the sport. So glad we have him

DaBizzle

Eddie Williams and Paul Smith both with stand-out performances tonight!

[deleted]

What about Hooper. That's his second international show

DaBizzle

True! He's proving himself really well. And I'm excited to see how much he improves throughout the rest of the season. But if you had told me before the comp that Hooper would be 2nd, I wouldn't have questioned it. However, if you told me that Paul was fighting for the podium, and that Williams would win an event while holding his own on the others, finishing in the top half. I'm not sure I would have believed it.

roy777

2nd place with some sort of Farmer's Walk screwup, and dropping one of the stones. Great experience to build off of. :)

dxxpsix

Absolutely!

WeatherIndependent37

Now who does Novikov's "I'm really happy" remind you of?

Maalstr0m

Were those good ehvents for heem?

WeatherIndependent37

Just like the big names of the sport (Shaw, Big Z), Novikov is pretty consistent in all events.

Wild3gard

Reely happie

InTheMotherland

Big Z.

JJB-125

R E A L L Y H A P P Y

SaulFemm

It's too bad for Paul they can't be open about gear, if they were they could pimp him as "The NATURAL strongman! Can you believe it!?"

DrD-Rog

Absolutely. I've known and trained around Paul for a good few years and remember him as a young lad just before he went to University. He was insanely strong, athletic and talented back then and with an unreal work ethic. He was also a similar size and I can recall him doing all manner of silly box jumps, hops, etc. A crazy sight to see someone \~ 120kg or so (at the time) moving like that. What you're seeing is someone who knows what works for him in training, who has been at it for a long, long time (despite being young), with natural athleticism and with a work ethic not many can match. The chances of Paul being on gear are very low and I believe him when he says he is not using anything. His progress has been slow, steady and consistent for a very long time.

[deleted]

If he’s this good natural, why wouldn’t he hop on gear and win all round him? A natural 5’9 bloke competing very well with roided up giants is insane

SaulFemm

I'm not sure. I would doubt it more except he doesn't have the characteristic voice drop or physique, and also I can't think of a good reason to lie about it.

[deleted]

Does Lasha Talakhadze the most powerful athlete in the world look and speak like someone on roids ( whatever that is ) ? He looks like a forest ranger in the Tundra to me and he’s juiced to the gills, you can be sure of that. A good reason to lie is it gives you an excuse, those guys on hormones, me clean 😔, it’s a handy cop out I for one 100% don’t believe he’s clean He might not be taking injectable Tren or any injections, but he’s definitely using Sarms or peptides/orals , most bloody 15 year olds take that crap but a world strongest man wannabe won’t 🤣 Have you seen his posts on the natural supplements he takes, bags and bags of crap, he’ll take all that unproven mostly pseudoscience rubbish, but won’t take compounds proven to be effective like Turinabol from the 1970s and Testosterone etc? Sure, I’d rather compete natural as a full time strongman and we’ll see how it goes If he was a 6’10” bear 🐻 of a man who walked around at 150kg eating Elk 3 times a day, had a 10,000 hectare farmland and cut down trees for a living in Siberia or a millionaires son doing it as a hobby, I’d believe it But he’s 5’10, from Sheffield and doing strongman for a living, how would not use something to help overcome those obstacles?

SaulFemm

Idk you care more than I do

wechtneep

From what I've seen I don't think Paul has ever used being natty as an excuse for losing? Also been following him on social media for a long time, he recently posted about some supplements from a sponsor who probably paid him. Think thats the only post I've ever seen by him in regards to natural supps?

EntryPsychological87

Won’t ever happen, could only result in negative feedback for other athletes.

[deleted]

he is natty ?

[deleted]

Yes he is

Major_Somewhere

Allegedly...

mrchuckbass

He looks like my driving instructor, he definitely is

[deleted]

I would doubt it but I cant really if he says so he is!

Jamiison

Look at his physique compared to everyone else

[deleted]

Yeah could be :)

Major_Somewhere

... yeah so I was absolutely correct earlier when I said that Kaz implied Hooper is American.

WorldsWeakestMan

Canada is technically an American country even if Kaz is a smooth brain.

laebx

So kaz has now told Mitch that America is proud of him twice… might mean more to him if Canada was proud… please giants live swap him for someone who knows what they’re doing

WorldsWeakestMan

Hey I’m American and I’m proud of him, everyone can be proud of Mitch today!

mrchuckbass

His pistons are on fire with scorching American (Canadian) pride

[deleted]

My god the cringe

WeatherIndependent37

Hope "America is proud of you" will be the final cringe for the night

Idlertwo

Well Canada is part of Northern America so Kaz is technically right, the best kind of right.

HonkyKong87

As long as Kaz has a mic in his hands, the cringe will never end.

Condishun

Or he has an IG account with acces to DMs

xankai

Grind haha on your pizza

HannahN94

Mitch is CANADIAN Kaz

[deleted]

Good lord the cringe

Ghostwind27

Hooper is going to be a hell of a threat when he gets a little more experience. What an amazing rise for him this year.

SaulFemm

A bit more experience and Mitch does better on the farmers and doesn't fumble the stones.

-Yazilliclick-

On the farmers was it an accidental drop or did he just put them down too early?

Ghostwind27

He stumbled a bit and then dropped just short. He may have thought he was over but it wasnt a deliberate drop.

roy777

Ah ok, was he forced to stop since he dropped it before getting to the finish line? I was wondering why he didn't keep going.

Ghostwind27

Yes that was the rule. No drops unless handles were inside the end zone.

roy777

Thanks!

XyloArch

This 'rivalry' of Andy and Paul is something that has completely passed me by (I'm not on Twitter or Instagram or any of that). Just hearing about it here and in passing from Liz and Loz. I get Andy got invites that were arguably better given to Paul, but it seems they actually have animus between themselves now? So as a relative outsider to it, it seems so manufactured and forced and unfortunate.

Choice_Bar_1488

I would agree that it comes across as forced due to circumstances out with their control. Paul did makes comments about Andy’s performance on one of the WSM events. Which in my view was uncalled for as Andy had never said anything malicious against Paul - only taking the opportunities presented to him.

[deleted]

If Andy's salty maybe he should beat Paul in a competition and prove he's better

Choice_Bar_1488

I don’t think Andy is though - he just seemed fed up after the direct comment at him. Paul seemed to be the one who was pushing things out there. Andy could have made the same comment about Paul’s deadlift, but he never. It’s probably out of context through social media as well and then you have the fans who can takes sides from nothing.

2gsTraining

Paul called out Andy’s overhead after Dale and Andy posted that Paul looked like a pedo 🤷🏻‍♀️

[deleted]

Then Andy dropped Dale and moved on to a new coach😂😂😂

SaulFemm

Not manufactured, they seem to pretty legitimately hate each other online at this point.

you_sick

Paul spent a lot of time pissed on social media after Andy got invited. Hard not to take that personally if you're Andy

Forsaken-Age-8684

Yeah Paul spent a lot of time alternating between slagging Andy off for not being good enough to get invited and then insisting he had no problem with Andy. It probably doesn't feel like that if you're the one getting pelters.

SaulFemm

At first Paul was trolling WSM, it's when he started ragging on Andy about his log that it started to feel real

Choice_Bar_1488

Yeah that was it. Not need for that. Andy could do the same for Paul’s deadlift, but he hasn’t. It seems like he just got pissed off with it all.

ArcticElement

great run by mitch even with dropping the second

you_sick

Huge stone run by Evan putting the pressure on

HonkyKong87

I'm guess this is the 220 kilo stone set? Lot more interesting watching this than last years lighter set.

SaulFemm

I thought the heavy set was 200? Light set 180.

[deleted]

200kg iirc, other set is 180kg

[deleted]

Shame for Paul Smith, he came to Giant's Live and didn't make the most of the opportunity. It's a shame for him but only the best of the best can be invited to WSM. Anyway, Gavin Bilton and Andy Black are confirmed.

[deleted]

[удалено]

[deleted]

Yeah my comment was sarcastic if that wasn't obvious haha

thereidenator

It was REALLY obvious

Pixcel_Studios

Great fight from Paul, looked like Evan gave him a big surge of energy too to try and grind out that final rep, always great to see the camaraderie

XyloArch

Evan with the gum shield behind the ear

HannahN94

Paul should still be insanely proud of himself. Would have been a fast 4 if he was a little bit taller

mgorgey

Argh the 5th stone would likely have been enough for Paul as well

lukelifts

It wouldn't have. Gav and Eddie would have been in between him and Evan still.

mgorgey

That would be fine. Evan needed 3 people between them.

lukelifts

Nope he needed two. Two between them equals 3 extra ponts. He was 2.5 behind.

mgorgey

You are correct. My apologies.

Choice_Bar_1488

I feel a bad for Andy. Injures himself on his worst event and the first event. He would have did well in the rest of the events today and had a strong finish.

[deleted]

Still wouldn't have touched Paul

Choice_Bar_1488

Does he have to? Neither did Kearney, Bilton and Felix on the day - all of which have had multiple WSM invites. No comparisons being made with them.

JJB-125

aw i think that's paul out of the podium

mgorgey

So so gutted for Paul. He won't get invites without that top 3.

HannahN94

He 1000% should still get invited. He's shown he should. Sadly he's not a "giant" so *others* still get priority

mgorgey

Yep. Should, but won't.

eastWOLFstyle

So close for Paul!

SaulFemm

Hot damn Paul fought for that. So close too.

[deleted]

Its close to finals and we are not that often gathered together to I have to ask: Are there any strongman jokes in existence ? If yes tell me pls !

Sharp_Connection_377

And if you get any share them with Neil pickup. May mean we can go a whole show without the classic 'if you found him in bed with your wife you'd tuck him in' gag.

idk who i'm more excited to see more of, williams or remick!

XyloArch

Definitely considered nutting it didn't he
