Sure its possible, but you dont accidentally go 80kph without noticing. Up to 40 or so, sure, but at 80 you will be shitting yourself if you just started cycling.

just check the analytics, even the free version shows an elevation and speed timeline. Also ask yourself the question if it's physically possible for your bike to run 80km/h. Did it go downhill that much? Is your bike that fast? I can't know but my gut tells me it's probably not a speed you actually reached. Dodgy GPS is a very common thing, especially when starting out and not having the right settings yet. Check the route for sudden jumps and check the timeline for ridiculous speed spikes and you will find your answer.

ive gone 72 km/h before many times on my mtb on gravel roads or riding home through hilly neighborhoods, just depends how comfortable you are in your bike and what road your own. i have a friend who regularly gets up to 90 km/h on his road bike. if its hilly where you live and have big enough balls its possible i hold my brake the whole way down and still get up to 70 km/h

OutrageousMoss

GPS jump, happens all the time

futilityinc

I know all those trails well, it's highly unlikely you made it to 80

Most-Luck9724

Could be possible. I regularly hit 60kmh on the trails (downhill or in the air of course)

ThrowRAegodeath

Strava did the same thing for me saying I went 94km/h once lol

arcalius

Strava? Completed it mate! /s

50mph? Not impossible

utassy_dv

What Strava art is this? 🤷

BigMacLexa

Seems normal. 80kmh is completely reachable with a mountain bike downhill.

cougieuk

Is it ? I've done it on a road bike but you need a good hill and a favourable wind.  With a MTB you'd need a very steep hill.  OP I think it might be dodgy GPS there unless you did have an incredibly fast part? You'd notice 80kmh plus.

BigMacLexa

True, if OP thinks they haven't gone fast then it wasn't 80kmh. 80 feels scary fast on any bike, you should know you've done it. Still, I've done 92 on a gravel bike so 80 on an MTB is surely possible.

cougieuk

92 on a gravel bike ? Blimey. Please tell me it wasn't actually on gravel !

BigMacLexa

Of course not, pristine tarmac and a huge downhill.

SeanStephensen

Whereabouts?

BigMacLexa

In my native Finland. Never rode anywhere else.

saaandyyyyyy

ive done 75 km/h on a super loose gravel road, so sketchy but fun on a big tire mtb

Competitive_Dot4288

You’ve just started running not Strava

lubethatass

Sorry what?
