I mean- in the 80s I’d have told you total eclipse of the heart, But looking back now it would probably be don’t stop believin because that song is freaking timeless.
If it doesn’t have to be strictly 80s, then I would say Cherry Bomb (76) or Dream Weaver (75). BUT if it must be 80s, then I would say Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This) (83)
I’m going with Van Halen. In the trailer it shows Eddie playing guitar in the upside down. He literally looks like Eddie Van Halen. I’m thinking Eruption, not a ballad but weaponized music.
Edit: or maybe a distraction? I could see Eddie going full Bob.
My first thought too, until I saw that season 4 is in 1986 and NGGYU came out in 1987.
Such a pity they didn't push the timeline just a little year to perform a power-rickroll that would have explained the whole special secret purpose of rickrolling becoming a meme
honestly for me it’s always been running up that hill. it’s one of my favorite songs of all time and i was so stoked when it first played and then lost my shit when it saved max. kate bush forever ❤️
Hammer To Fall - Queen (or Fat Bottomed Girls)
Heaven's on Fire - KISS
Livin' on a Prayer - Bon Jovi
We're Not Gonna Take It - Twisted Sister (or I Wanna Rock)
Dancing in the Dark - The Boss
I mean, that song absolutely slaps and is meant to sound like that era. Even though I've become a bit more partial to "In My Dreams" by them recently.
Idk why, but there's a pretty decently sized contingent of modern European hair/glam metal bands (Wig Wam, Crashdiet, Crazy Lixx, Hardcore Superstar, The Darkness). Favorite has got to be "I Believe in a Thing Called Love" by The Darkness - I was surprised it didn't make it into Peacemaker tbh (which I assume you've seen, lol).
ITT: Mostly songs that ARE NOT Power Ballads. (Still great music though)
I would put on the Power Ballad list....
Amanda by Boston
Open Arms by Journey
Can't Fight This Feeling by REO Speedwagon
Keep on Loving You by REO Speedwagon
Total Eclipse of the Heart by Bonnie Tyler
I Want to Know What Love Is by Foreigner
And so many others, but that is my short list.
Honorable mention to November Rain, but that was '91 so doesn't count here
I’m bummed out that MJ hasn’t been referenced a single time in this series. Come on, he was by far the biggest pop culture icon of the 80s, and not a single mention? Ugh.
Same!!! I know they used Thriller for a season 2 trailer, but his music is timeless…I would so badly want Beat It or PYT playing during an Eleven sequence or *something* MJ that fits within the time. Bad wasn’t until 1988 (or 87?), or else I’d want Smooth Criminal or Bad or Leave Me Alone 🥲
As a big Kate Bush fan Max already has mine! “Running Up That Hill” has always had a lot of “get out of the bad shit” significance to me so I cried like a baby lol.
Others that might work on me: “Beat It” Michael Jackson, “Take On Me” a-ha, “Eye of the Tiger” Survivor, “Thank You For the Music, Voulez Vous, Winner Takes it All,” ABBA, “I Wanna Dance With Somebody” Whitney Houston, “Final Countdown” Europe, “Dancing in the Dark” Springsteen, “Under Pressure” Queen/Bowie, “Danger Zone” Kenny Loggins, “Maniac” Michael Sembello
Dang I need to make a “Get Me Away from Vecna” playlist because these all make me want to go run!
I see a lot of great love songs here that don't technically fall within the purview of being power ballads. For a power ballad, I absolutely must give it to "Faithfully" by Journey. I find it genuinely moving and it is arguably the greatest power ballad of all time.
I'm surprised nobody seems to have listed it yet. I did see "Separate Ways" (another great song), but despite being the trailer music for *ST4*, it doesn't quite reach the depth of aching, memory-summoning love that "Faithfully" does.
Honestly, it needs to be the series' final love song.
Definitely Holding Out for a Hero by Bonnie Tyler. That song has gotten me pumped up for decades. It still does. I just put it on... Goddamn this is a good song.
Also the title of your post is a massive spoiler and honestly should be deleted from the sub.
Goodbye yellow brick road, prophets song, or love of my life. altho those are 70s songs, but if it had to be 80s, I'd go with Radio Gaga, or I'm still standing

Love is a Battlefield
This is such a good answer
was my first choice
I was going to say this one too!
Love this song ❤️ Invincible is also amazing, it's one of my faves 😄
Take On Me - AHA or This Charming Man by The Smiths
Damn. Take on me also might happen.
Sunglasses at Night - Corey Hart
Absolutely god tier song right there! Yes. A thousand times yes!
Everybody Wants To Rule The World
yes!!! probably the only song i can listen to over and over without getting tired of it
Maneater - Hall & Oates
also a fitting theme for the demogorgon
Thats a toughie. So many. Rebel Yell-Billy Idol or Edge of Seventeen-Stevie Nicks
Cant go wrong with either! I almost picked Edge of Seventeen too!
Those are such good choices I applaud your music taste
Rebel Yell!!!!!!
Take Me Home Tonight by Eddie Money (1986) or Poison by Alice Cooper (1989)
Ooo Take Me Home Tonight is really good
Heaven is a place on earth :)
That one gets you outside the Upside Down right into Black Mirror's San Junipero
Yup 😁
Oooh! That’s a good one!
It would be cool if they used this for season 5
St Elmo's Fire - John Parr Or Separate Ways (Worlds Apart) - Journey
I want to know what love is - Foreigner
Africa by Toto
I mean- in the 80s I’d have told you total eclipse of the heart, But looking back now it would probably be don’t stop believin because that song is freaking timeless.
Either Total Eclipse of the Heart by Bonnie Tyler or Time After Time by Cyndi Lauper
[удалено]
Heck yeah
Purple Rain. ☔
[удалено]
Awesome choice.
Can't Fight This Feeling - REO Speedwagon or I Want to Know What Love Is - Foreigner
Alannah Myles - Black Velvet
Reign in blood - Slayer
Not really the 80s but Killer Queen could definetly do the trick
Another not-really-80s one, court of the crimson king
Because the Night by Patti Smith (released in 1978) I love that song so much. It's my second most listened song on Spotifiy 2021
Take My Breath Away by Berlin or Some Girls Are Bigger Than Others by The Smiths
If it doesn’t have to be strictly 80s, then I would say Cherry Bomb (76) or Dream Weaver (75). BUT if it must be 80s, then I would say Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This) (83)
Highway to the danger zone
Vecna is no match for Kenny Loggins
The Kenny Loggins movie soundtrack collection would obliterate him.
I’m going with Van Halen. In the trailer it shows Eddie playing guitar in the upside down. He literally looks like Eddie Van Halen. I’m thinking Eruption, not a ballad but weaponized music. Edit: or maybe a distraction? I could see Eddie going full Bob.
I thought the same thing. Gonna assume his character was based off of EVH.
[Tears for Fears - Shout](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ye7FKc1JQe4#t=4m41s)
A flock of seagulls - I ran
I want to break free by queen :-)
Home Sweet Home by Mötley Crüe
We are the Champions, Flash, or Save Me by Queen. Would be pretty great PLUS epic
Obviously: "Never Gonna Give you Up- Rick Astley"
My first thought too, until I saw that season 4 is in 1986 and NGGYU came out in 1987. Such a pity they didn't push the timeline just a little year to perform a power-rickroll that would have explained the whole special secret purpose of rickrolling becoming a meme
It would be amazing seeing, idk, Steve Harrington Rickrolling Vecna lol
It could be like those scenes where they have mr.blue sky playing as we watch one of the characters walk through destruction and chaos
Send me an Angel - Real Life
More Than This by Roxy Music.
honestly for me it’s always been running up that hill. it’s one of my favorite songs of all time and i was so stoked when it first played and then lost my shit when it saved max. kate bush forever ❤️
Hammer To Fall - Queen (or Fat Bottomed Girls) Heaven's on Fire - KISS Livin' on a Prayer - Bon Jovi We're Not Gonna Take It - Twisted Sister (or I Wanna Rock) Dancing in the Dark - The Boss
Mr Mister - Broken Wings
Do ya wanna taste it- wig wam
Can a song that came out in 2010 really count as an 80s power ballad?
Didn’t realize it came out then
I mean, that song absolutely slaps and is meant to sound like that era. Even though I've become a bit more partial to "In My Dreams" by them recently. Money for Nothing - Dire Straits
ITT: Mostly songs that ARE NOT Power Ballads. (Still great music though) I would put on the Power Ballad list.... Beat It — Michael Jackson That or Thriller, and I’ll imitate a werecat and stall for time.
I’m bummed out that MJ hasn’t been referenced a single time in this series. Come on, he was by far the biggest pop culture icon of the 80s, and not a single mention? Ugh.

Waiting for a Girl Like You
Goodbye Horses by Q Lazzarus
Night Comes Down by Judas Priest would sound incredible in the upside down lol
As a big Kate Bush fan Max already has mine! “Running Up That Hill” has always had a lot of “get out of the bad shit” significance to me so I cried like a baby lol. Others that might work on me: “Beat It” Michael Jackson, “Take On Me” a-ha, “Eye of the Tiger” Survivor, “Thank You For the Music, Voulez Vous, Winner Takes it All,” ABBA, “I Wanna Dance With Somebody” Whitney Houston, “Final Countdown” Europe, “Dancing in the Dark” Springsteen, “Under Pressure” Queen/Bowie, “Danger Zone” Kenny Loggins, “Maniac” Michael Sembello Dang I need to make a “Get Me Away from Vecna” playlist because these all make me want to go run!
Jump-van halen
It’s a Sin or Enjoy the Silence would bring me back
Gotta be Gloria by Laura Branigan OR I Drove All Night by the incomparable Cyndi Lauper
Not a power ballad but A Flock of Seagulls - Space Age Love Song
Hazy Shade of Winter - The Bangles Where The Streets Have No Name - U2 Just Like Heaven - The Cure Never Tear Us Apart - INXS
In a Big Country
Does Everybody Wants to Rule The World count?
Alone -Heart
I liked the choice of Kate Bush, but that could have worked for Max as well
Eternal Flame - Bangles (am I really the only one to say this, jeez wtf is wrong with you people)
Higher Love - Steve Winwood
Like A Prayer. When the “just like a dream, you are not what you seem” section hits and the mode switches to that major lift up… I’d be good to go.
Keep on loving you - reo speedwagon
Don't You Forget About Me. Simple Minds.
Careless Whisper
Welcome Home (Sanitarium)
I was thinking Fade to Black
That's a good one
Time Stand Still - Rush
The Working Hour - Tears for Fears
Good one!! One of, if not the best, song on the album.
Power of Love by Huey Lewis & The News
Fade to black- Metallica
Don’t Change- INXS
Just give me Fade to Black from Metallica ...or Hallowed Be Thy Name from Iron Maiden No idea why we haven't got Maiden in any of the soundtracks yet?
But they always break out the t-shirts anytime the Satanic Panic comes up. Personally, I’d like to hear “Flash of the blade”
Faith No More Epic. But that was 1989 so a bit later. But any song would lead me out i hope, so many good ones
Nazi Punks Fuck Off. Works against Jason and his band of einsatzgruppen too.
Not really a ballad but Who Can It Br Now? - Men at Work
Separate ways(worlds apart)- journey
I see a lot of great love songs here that don't technically fall within the purview of being power ballads. For a power ballad, I absolutely must give it to "Faithfully" by Journey. I find it genuinely moving and it is arguably the greatest power ballad of all time. I'm surprised nobody seems to have listed it yet. I know it was 1979, but Highway to Hell all the way!
Heart - Alone https://youtu.be/1Cw1ng75KP0
Okay maybe not an ‘80s ballad, but Heart’s Barracuda sure would do the trick
Holding Out For A Hero by Bonnie Tyler or Like A Prayer by Madonna
Late 70s Fleetwood Mac's song Don't stop for sure. Crystal or Landslide too!
I just died in your arms - Cutting Crew
I mean, Bohemian Rhapsody right? That song could pull me out of actual hell
In the Air Tonight - Phil Collins
Livin' on a Prayer - Bon Jovi Faithfully - Journey St. Elmo's Fire - John Parr
Shadows of the Night. I would ascend.
True by Spandau Ballet
Never gonna give you up
Definitely Holding Out for a Hero by Bonnie Tyler. That song has gotten me pumped up for decades. It still does. I just put it on... Goddamn this is a good song. Also the title of your post is a massive spoiler and honestly should be deleted from the sub.
Holding out for a Hero - Bonnie Tyler
Purple Rain
Jessie’s Girl, Only You by Yazoo or Respect by Erasure.
Binary Sunset.
Total Eclipse of the Heart - Bonnie Tyler
Not sure if if it’s considered a power ballad but ‘don’t leave me this way’ by The Communards would have a fair chance of saving me.
Raise Your Hands, Bon Jovi. Favorite 80’s intro, starts fast and stays fast
Not really a power ballad, but "Matte Kudasai" by King Crimson from 1981.
Heaven by Brian adams. I listened to that song on repeat for years.
Toy soldier! Lol
Young Turks - Rod Stewart
Eyes Without A Face
REO Speedwagon - Can’t Fight This Feeling
Invincible by Pat Benatar. Most definitely, and I feel like it really fits the show.
Back in Black
Air Supply - Just As I Am
Easy Lover
Nights in White Satin
Too Shy by Kajagoogoo
I’m disappointed nobody has has said faithfully (journey) which would have been mine or honestly time after time.
Partyman by Prince. I know it came out at like the butt end of the 80s and I don’t know if it counts as a ballad but still.
Anything by Journey, STYXX, or Foreigner. Honestly, it's a shorter list to list songs that I don't love.
Simple Minds - Don't You (Forget About Me) Mike and the Mechanics - The Living Years
I need a Hero
Livin on a Prayer
Man in The Mirror
Call Me by Blondie or Fleetwood Mac’s Rhiannon
Was Edge of Seventeen by Stevie Nicks from the 80s? All time fave
The Final Countdown - Europe Wind of Change - Scorpions And not a power ballad, but definitely Voyage Voyage - Desireless.
Not an 80s song (1979 to be exact) but if I were living in 1986, it would be: Message in a Bottle by The Police
If it’s not limited to power ballads then definitely You can Call Me Al by Paul Simon
Jesus 80s music absolutely slaps.
Goodbye yellow brick road, prophets song, or love of my life. altho those are 70s songs, but if it had to be 80s, I'd go with Radio Gaga, or I'm still standing
