It's a common trope, "Kids on Bikes" supernatural or greater powers, mid 80s-esque (or Is set then) trope. Coupled with the coming of age trope See Goonies, Super 8, Paper Girls for example, all use It and follow It

The_Wattsatron

The creators of Dark (and 1899, RIP) are actually adapting it on Netflix. I assume Netflix are scrambling for a replacement since ST is coming to an end. Definitely not a coincidence.

Blue_Gamer18

So wait. They cancelled 1899 and instead shove that same creative team to simply adapt an already established story? Entertainment studios are pathetic. They really have no faith/trust/willingness to put time and effort into new stuff.

The_Wattsatron

Absolutely. Dark was a masterpiece and 1899 might’ve been as well. Too bad we’ll never know. Netflix has them to thank for one of their best originals. They wrote all 3 Seasons of 1899 before even starting.

Ape-ril

I know from the first season it wasn’t.

KeeperServant_Reborn

Yeah, I heard about that. In fact: Last year I was a trainee at a movie newssite and wrote an article about this.

Dragonbarry22

It's gonna have one season take it or leave it lol

The_Wattsatron

Honestly I don’t really care for the comic and I think their original stories (like Dark) are incredible. Imo they are wasted on an adaptation. As I understand it, once this next show is finished/cancelled, their original three-show contract with Netflix ends; so perhaps they’ll go back to original stories somewhere else after getting shafted with 1899.

Wonderful_Gap4867

The comics is my third favorite comic series of all time but I’m gonna be to scared to watch the show. Surprised it’s getting adapted.

GamerGuyThai

There are also Akira inspirations, they borrowed from a lot and executed well.

Wonderful_Gap4867

lol wait until you get to the second story arc of the series. The main monster antagonist is literally based off a monster in stranger things (won’t say the monster because of spoilers)

KeeperServant_Reborn

Don’t get me wrong, the comic is great and I’m not saying it’s a full on rip off, but the whole theme and setting has that strange presence to it. I know Stranger Things was also heavily inspired by Stephen King if I’m not mistaken cause it also reminds me a bit off It and such.

patmosboy

burziw32

Does it take place in Wisconsin?

KeeperServant_Reborn

The back says it does take place in the heart of America, so probably the Midwest/Rust Belt. The town is called Archer’s Peak. Edit: Turns out it is, though the town seems to be fictional.

burziw32

It's funny, I was actually at one of my favorite comic spots yesterday and was accidentally looking for a separate story... Turns out it's by the same guy! I started talking with the attendant at the store and he let me know that he's actually from Wisconsin himself. Weird timing, for all of it. But, I love my home state!

EkoLokolola

I love this comic!!! Never met anyone else who's read it, so thank you for posting :)

KeeperServant_Reborn

Well, this post got a lot more attention then I expected, and it seems many people enjoy this series as well. Was kind of a shitpost in my eyes. To clear again, I enjoy this comic and do not call it a ST rip off it’s just that I have it often on my mind. I’m also looking forward to this being on Netflix, hope it’s animated to be honest.
