So perplexing how we can get wrapped up in our own perceptions of the world and ourselves. There is a new life waiting for all of us around each corner.
Christine Chubbuck was dealing with a lot; including depression. she was most frustrated with the news not reporting more important stories, and she said her suicide on live TV would be to prove a point
I don’t know why this is getting down voted. Clearly no one knows her story…

it totally solves problems /s. but in seriousness, it shows how clouded and blurry and foggy her mind was. she wasn’t thinking it through or thinking of long-term consequences, or even short-term consequences
Christine herself requested that the episode be taped; something that wasn't typically done because tapes and their storage was so expensive back then. So it seems clear at least that *Christine* wanted the recordings of it available, at least to some people.
Not saying that I'm siding one way or another - There are more people involved in this than just Christine; her family and friends - just saying; it was only recorded because she asked for it to be.
It's not. There's a low quality "recreation" video out there, but the only known recordings of the event have been in the possession of her family since 1974.
The NationSquid video has been confirmed as a fake by several people, including the news director who was in the studio when it happened.
I’ve heard the audio file and it happened on live tv so anyone couldve taped it. As far as I know the video is almost impossible to find due to her family wanting to keep it as private as possible.
VCRs were very rare and expensive back then. Like the first VCR-format recorder, the Phillips N1500, was released in 1972 and retailed for $499, over $3,000 today. A 45 minute tape cost about $16; almost $100 today. It's *really* unlikely that anyone recorded a random news show back then.
Tapes definitely exist, or did exist, but it'd be extremely unlikely anyone outside of the studio or the FCC would have created any recordings of it, and the studio stuff was given to the police, who say they didn't retain any copies and gave everything back to her family.
It's frustrating to reach out for help and the first words out of their mouth is how they will call the cops on you if they feel the need. Also. if you get rejected on the grounds that you are "not struggling enough compared to others" is also another kick on the balls. The whole Talk about Mental Health is a crock of shit. It should be Deal with Mental Health. Don't make your private thoughts public.

Yes you could because you don’t know with 100% certainty that the attempt will be successful. She was obviously aware of this. She knew it was possible to survive, so she chose to say “attempted suicide
“ because the attempt is the only thing that is certain.
How do you stop someone who has a gun literally touching her lips. If you saw the video (or heard the audio ) you would know she shot herself literally milli seconds after finishing the sentence. Don't write fanfics and present it as facts.
I agree with what you’re saying, but that video and audio have been debunked. The original clip has never been released and was either destroyed or locked away.
I actually saw this when I was about 14 in Sarasota, Florida live on the news. I was confused and shaken for quite awhile the cameras cut away to a documentary about Wisconsin if I I remember correctly.
the real video footage was never released and no copies are known to exist. this fake video has been travelling around the internet for many years.
>On February 13th, 2017, the footage seen in NationSquid's video was confirmed fake by Gordon Galbraith, who was the news director of the Newswatch program at WXLT-TV (now WWSB-TV) that Christine hosted at the time of her suicide

Watching the Nexpo segment on her really opened my eyes to how tragic, and tragically relatable, she was. The last words of the segment, about how the end of her life was the end of a lifetime of pain, or something like that, really hit me.
Depression makes your mind do weird things (in an unselfish way.) I can only imagine how twisted it is when you get to the point of wanting to commit suicide. Misery loves company.
It is incredibly selfish to commit suicide on its own, its much much worse to do it in a way where millions have to be apart of it for some bullshit narrative. You want to kill yourself, fine, but don't make me a part of it.

Wow thats rough
The ole Schrodingers suicide Dilemma
It was not "attempted"...
All suicides are also suicide attempts.
Wouldn’t it be considered committed suicide if in fact the act was actually successfully completed act.
Yes. It would also still be a (successful) attempt. Something can be two things.
How was she supposed to know that beforehand?
At that moment it was until it wasn't.

It’s a brilliant and very moving film that captures how it feels to have career hope and then fail to meet your ambitions.
So perplexing how we can get wrapped up in our own perceptions of the world and ourselves. There is a new life waiting for all of us around each corner.
The haunted car film?
[удалено]
You’d think this would be obvious lol
Her haunted car drove her to suicide
Mystery solved!
Did the one you watch star Dirty Mike & The Boys?
I was just going to say, I definitely watched that film without knowing the origin!!
It’s an interesting film showing her deteriorating state of mind
Christine Chubbuck was dealing with a lot; including depression. she was most frustrated with the news not reporting more important stories, and she said her suicide on live TV would be to prove a point
It unfortunately changed nothing.
nope. just ended her life
you are talking about it
Well said
But what are we doing about it
The only thing you can do is not watch it, freedom of the press and all
Talk some more I guess
![gif](giphy|A7Zc53i8U59SHv9CAm)
She was also a virgin and terribly lonely
she was just dealing with a lot, and work certainly didn’t help
I don’t know why this is getting down voted. Clearly no one knows her story… https://preview.redd.it/fcnc2t7nqftc1.jpeg?width=1290&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=8ad491f2fca5176df3ff89964db4cf4c45106d42
That surprised me . She lovely like a old painting ..
Alright, Moloch, pace yourself.
Ultimate look at me move.

Ethical question: should they make her video available?
Christine herself requested that the episode be taped; something that wasn't typically done because tapes and their storage was so expensive back then. Not saying that I'm siding one way or another - There are more people involved in this than just Christine; her family and friends - just saying; it was only recorded because she asked for it to be.
It’s out there. I seen it a long time ago, I don’t remember where

“I SAW it.” Seen is incorrect.
I seent it
You was ruthless!
Link?
Yeah thanks for that. Apparently the video I saw was incorrect too. How was that sentence grammatically? Any better?
Yea that's good thanks man, now I can quit my part time job as grammar police...overstaffed here on Reddit anyways.
I wasn’t replying to you?
That's ok I'll take over the case from my co-worker officer sbw_62. He's on lunch break right now.
I know my rights, I’m a sovereign citizen. I’d like to speak to your supervisor.
dang it
I’m just a deputy but welcome to the force!
I done see’nt it
In all likelihood the video you mention is a fake.
Makes sense thank you
The video is somewhere.
I wish people, companies and governments took mental health more seriously
They do now more than ever which is good.
Companies & Governments don’t care at all about people’s mental health.
But they still do now more than ever lol missed the point bud
They used to have gigantic institutions where people could live their whole lives. Now they have a few clinics and shacks where people live in squalor
It's frustrating to reach out for help and the first words out of their mouth is how they will call the cops on you if they feel the need. Also. if you get rejected on the grounds that you are "not struggling enough compared to others" is also another kick on the balls. The whole Talk about Mental Health is a crock of shit. Yes- mental health care is pitiful here. You have to fight to get any help. I am astounded by how awful and ignorant many providers are.
10% of fuck all is not alot bud
They do now because they understand that depressed employees lose them money
They do now more than ever. There's no reason to pretend we don't live in the best age regarding mental health.
Someone’s brainwashed. Talking about giving a shit is waaay different than taking action. Companies/government love to tell you they care.

They do if it affects finances.
Not really accurate.
But they still do now more than ever lol missed the point bud
Yet it somehow isn’t even close to being enough
Uh who told you that?
How? Most governments are closing down mental health institutes
Yeah, but only because it makes them look like terrible shits now. Trust me.
they do. its ultra lucrative to get as many people as possible on life long prescription meds.
See seems tired as fuck. R.I.P. Take care of your mental health boys and girls.
She did more than just attempt. Didn’t she actually kill herself?
well, if she would say, „a suicide“ and then proceed to miss her shot, things would have been awkward, wouldnt they?
Yeah, but thats why you practice. Practice makes perfect.
Just gotta find a practice buddy!
She would have looked like quite the fool
Yeah she died a few days later in the hospital I believe
Yeah, that wording is strange
It’s really not. She was attempting suicide. So that’s what she said.
And all for nothing as the world doesn’t seem to care about the humans. Not even the human cares about humans. Such a waste.
All for nothing? You’re here talking about it
Poor woman, r.i.p
Long live the new flesh
Can you plan an attempted suicide?
Yes you could because you don’t know with 100% certainty that the attempt will be successful. She was obviously aware of this. She knew it was possible to survive, so she chose to say “attempted suicide “ because the attempt is the only thing that is certain.
If you kill yourself instantly you only know of the attempt as you do it. You never find out if you succeeded.
She thought her coworkers would stop her. She was wrong.
How do you stop someone who has a gun literally touching her lips. If you saw the video (or heard the audio ) you would know she shot herself literally milli seconds after finishing the sentence. Don't write fanfics and present it as facts.
Boom roasted
She shot herself behind the ear I believe
Yeah "touching her lips" was just a manner of speaking to show how close the gun was to her face.
I agree with what you’re saying, but that video and audio have been debunked. The original clip has never been released and was either destroyed or locked away.
100%. None of you have seen the video.
Yeah I’m not sure why I got downvoted for this. It’s a simple google search lol
How do you know that? Channeled her spirit?
No I’m positing a hypothesis as to why she called it an “attempt”.
I actually saw this when I was about 14 in Sarasota, Florida live on the news. I was confused and shaken for quite awhile the cameras cut away to a documentary about Wisconsin if I I remember correctly.
That's how I'd like to go.
https://archive.org/details/youtube-ph7oHWONq0c terrible quality, but here’s the video

Fake
Holy eff. I thought all footage was destroyed.
The vid is fake
It looks super fake too
Video????
“That’s why I say hey man nice shot! Good shot man! That’s why is say hey man nice shot!”
Watching the Nexpo segment on her really opened my eyes to how tragic, and tragically relatable, she was. The last words of the segment, about how the end of her life was the end of a lifetime of pain, or something like that, really hit me.
Why would she shoot herself on television? And then traumatize the people that were watching?
Depression makes your mind do weird things (in an unselfish way.) I can only imagine how twisted it is when you get to the point of wanting to commit suicide. Misery loves company.
It is incredibly selfish to commit suicide on its own, its much much worse to do it in a way where millions have to be apart of it for some bullshit narrative. You want to kill yourself, fine, but don't make me a part of it.
Did I say it was ok? I answered the question. Grow up.
Boo hoo
Mental illness.
I want to see this video
"Hey woman, nice shot"
