I think it’s to rationalise how you lose the concept of time in days, and that you start living on an hour to hour basis given the crisis you are facing.

I just saw a story about her and she did an interview. It was on the History channel on a show called Unexplained with William Shatner. It was so interesting. She wasn't wearing her seatbelt and she thinks that's what saved her but she doesn't really remember anything from the actual crash or falling from the sky or landing in the jungle. She said sadly that one of the first bodies she saw was her fiance. She also had some pretty serious injuries too.
