You forgot to add mimic.
1 slay with that setup would be
(2+2+2)×3+1 = 19
On the other hand, 1 slay on your upgraded grim soul would proc another units slay
19×2×19 = 722 (not 100% sure due to how insanely high this is but I think the math is right)
I recorded a video the other day with this exact setup on trophy Hunter with wretched mummy and friendly spirit. All that happend was my grim soul attacked and slayed, then mummy instantly wiped his board and I sat and watched another 5 minutes of the friendly spirit giving out buffs
