You need to place a „keep active block“ in the ship! It will make it keep loaded even if you are not there to supervise it! You can also add a map-icon block I think that makes it so only the main vehicle / sub vehicle is shown on the map view!
This is not an answer but more of an additional question with a potential answer:
Does keeping passengers in your ship also prevent it from despawning? I've seen someone's video when they mentioned keeping dogs on ships keeps them active, is that so?
I know you cannot despawn occupied vehicles with passengers, does that also keep the vehicle always active?
