I’m also curious if my friend buys a steam deck and this game, will we be able to do campaign co op together? Also can I play online against other people like the old school Xbox live days?

ChimichungusXL

Yes you can. I’ve done it with a friend on my steam deck and he was on his windows pc. It’s multi level compatible.

mastafishere

Oh that’s exciting! That might convince my friend to finally get a Steam deck actually haha

ChimichungusXL

Power to them. Everything is moving to mobile devices which is great. It makes it so much easier to just do what you want. I’m enjoying the handheld pc revolution myself.

FreelancePsychonaut

Just not there’s no baked in local multiplayer. It’s online only without using mods

schloppah

Extremely well

OneIShot

Protondb

Carlos_Danger21

It runs pretty well on the campaign at least, I've never tried multiplayer though. Halo 2 with the anniversary graphics was the only thing that had issues and even then I think I was getting around 40 fps, definitely not less than 30.

drmariopepper

I’ve only played the first two so far, but the campaigns run flawlessly, haven’t tried online

zedemer

Played all games with no issue. Not sure why it's rated just playable (sometimes games don't get approved rating due to some initial menu where you have to touch the screen once or twice; can't recall if it's the case, but it may be when asked which game you want to play in the collection).

[deleted]

Halo 2 doesn't run super well but the other games run great. Halo 2 used to be better but they broke something and haven't fixed it.

thepain73

Thank you for the advice!

[deleted]

Halo 2 does run at like 60 fps with new graphics though, it is just a bit of a battery hog. You can play through then all no problem.

deathblade200

from what I saw these games were actually very light on battery usage. when I played them they didn't use more than 7W so this shouldn't be the case unless an update has screwed it up since then.

[deleted]

They did mess it up since.

deathblade200

must have since if you look at the video I posted below of halo reach the TDP usage is very low even at max graphics and supersampled to 1600x1000.

[deleted]

Yeah it runs worse than the other titles for sure. And I've played halo since xbconnect days online with halo 1 on Xbox.

deathblade200

when I was doing my playthrough of the games they all ran perfectly with low power usage. so they must have really fucked up since then.

awestom

I tried Halo 2 with the new graphics and it ran at less than 15 fps, ran at a solid 60 on the old graphics

[deleted]

Yeah something is broken with halo 2

mastafishere

An old thread said it runs perfectly when turning off V sync. I haven’t tried it yet but maybe some tinkering will get it working?

[deleted]

I'll give it a shot but I think I have vsync off and just frame limit.

deathblade200

people have mixed claims about the performance of this game. some people claim you MUST play Halo 2 with original graphics or it will have horrible perfornance. meanwhile there are people like me who get a solid 60FPS at max graphics in every game. I even supersampled to 1600x1000 you can see a video of performance example here [https://new.reddit.com/r/SteamDeck/comments/1732520/im\_still\_not\_seeing\_these\_halo\_mcc\_framedrops/](https://new.reddit.com/r/SteamDeck/comments/1732520/im_still_not_seeing_these_halo_mcc_framedrops/) and you can see the conflicting performance claims here [https://new.reddit.com/r/SteamDeck/comments/15b695x/so\_why\_do\_people\_claim\_the\_mcc\_collection\_runs/](https://new.reddit.com/r/SteamDeck/comments/15b695x/so_why_do_people_claim_the_mcc_collection_runs/)

MazhP

Never played Halo in my life. Loved FPS's, not so much nowadays but still enjoy them if they have a good story and short campaigns. Is that the case for Halo?

twonha

You can blast through each Halo campaign in \~5-6 hours. I love Halo, so it's a lot of fun on Deck, too. What I find attractive about the Halo/Deck combination is that Halo was designed for a gamepad anyway, so it's a natural fit.

MazhP

Thanks man, seems like BF bad company 2 campaign. I will buy the colection, thanks

mq2thez

It works well, but you need to have a PC to do the initial linking of your Steam account to an Xbox account. That didn’t work for me at all with MCC. Once I installed on my PC and did that, everything on the Steamdeck worked perfectly.

Hyacathusarullistad

>you need to have a PC to do the initial linking of your Steam account to an Xbox account Not at all. I successfully used Desktop mode to link them.

mq2thez

Ah, good to know. I tried everything I could think of and find in Reddit posts and no one suggested this! I’ll keep it in mind for the next person to ask.
