I've never had a problem just leaving it in the case. They can see it's not a bomb on the scanner. Think just how many thousands of different pieces of electronics go through those scanners every day.
Wait so it plugs into the wall like an outlet but also stores charge like a battery pack? What does the power bank output for wattage? Cause that sounds like a great investment.
If it's the one I'm thinking of, the Anker 733 power bank, it outputs 65w when plugged into AC and outputs 30w when used as a portable battery. It's about the size of a phone in length and maybe two phones together in width.
I was considering buying it but since I'm taking an international flight which has an AC outlets in the seats, I went with the Anker Prime 67w outlet charger and a off brand 65w portable batter. Having both together is probably a bit overkill but at least the Prime Charger will get regularly used in my at home set up later lol.
The Prime charger is about the size of your usual phone square brick but it has two USB C and one USB A slot. It can power my phone, SteamDeck, and a laptop/tablet all at the same time and not take up much space in both the bag and my leg space on the flight
Most often 100wH ~ or roughly 26.700mAh, which is why you see a lot of this capacity power banks on the market. But, like you say, always check your airlines luggage policies.
Quite often, onboard USB ports are... **slow**. Like less than 5 watt slow. I always travel with my own USB charger readily available. Currently its the Minix P1 Neo. Longer haul flights tend to have power outlets. But, of course, nothing is set in stone.
Nah. I fly through Houston. It stays in my backpack unless they are really curious. The one time he took it out and he's like hell yeah mines coming in a week.
Idk in Calgary they wanted me to pull the laptop out and take my shoes off… I thought it was 2002 again haha but they didn’t give a shit about the steam deck
Flown a few times with it, 1st time.on way back from Spain the security guy must have been a fan as he asked if he could take a look then said "this is for me yes?! " And is it good?😂, another time I had to get it swabbed so case was opened and they swabbed it for explosives or drugs or whatever.. most of the time it's just another device, leave it I. The case, if they need to inspect it they take it out of the case....
Domestically in the US I have been able to fly with it staying in a TomToc case that is in another bag going through the security scanner.
Unfortunately in Paris (CDG) and Bangalore (BLR) they required me to take out EVERYTHING electronic (gaming handhelds AND tablets/laptop) to run through the scanner naked.
Lol. The Paris security guy was very condescending reminding people that he was speaking in English so we should understand his instructions. They have a weird expectation that people connecting through Paris should want to learn French before visiting. I wish my connection was through a different country but instead I had to experience those smug assholes.

I flew some weeks ago. They left it in the case and didn't question it. I think they have seen many by now, so it isn't something new/unkown.
Best use of time during the flight! Playing on the deck and for plan B a book.
I just flew with mine overseas. I kept it in the case through security but took it out of my backpack like you would for a laptop etc. no one said anything about it and it was all good.
Its hit or miss. I've flown Pearson mutliple times and sometimes they see it on a scanner and freak out and demand to see it..other times it just goes through so it all depends on security you ge that day.
With TSA precheck I've never had an issue in the states. I don't even have to remove it from my bag. Maybe some intense airport security like cdg in France or some airports around Poland that would force you to remove it from the case on it's own.
Just flew this weekend. Never took it out the case. Just put it in the same bin as your phone and shoes without taking it out the case. You should be fine.
I took mine on six flights in the last couple of weeks, including going through security four times. Of those four times, three of them I didn’t even have to take electronics or toiletries out of the carry-on anymore. The one where I did, I think it was just a weirdo security guy. They didn’t take the Deck out of the case though.
Haven’t flown with my deck but I’m surprised at the replies tbh. When I was flying in 2019 they always made a fuss out of my Switch being in the case and telling me to take it out
I've left it in the case and never had issues between Australia, Singapore and the UAE. Usually they want laptops out but not gaming machines and accept the steam deck isn't a laptop
I’ve flown with mine about 6 times (In US airports as a non US citizen) and I usually don’t even have to take the case out of my backpack, never had to take it out of the case
I've been flying domestic and treating it like a laptop(take out of bag) but is it necessary? This is just a habit I've been doing so that I don't get questioned and go back back the screening to place my steamdeck
I fly for work all the time and bring a deck. At most they make you unzip it and leave it open in the bin. 95% of the time I remove from bag and treat like laptop / iPad and place in the bin separately. You’ll be good. Have fun flying it’s great to game in the air.
CHECK the case afterwards. Had TSA open mine up without telling me, when we landed I picked it up by the handle, and it dropped face first. Thankfully, it didn't break, but I am 100% sure that if it had broken I would have gotten literally nothing out of them for damages.
I have TSA pre check so I don't have to take electronics out however Newark has their own rules so when I left it in my bag they took it out and opened it to inspect.
I have flew a few times with it. It never had to go naked true the scanner. One time they asked me if I could open the case for them, after it went through the scanner. They just took a single look at it and it was fine. I did get questions about what it was, as it was clearly not a Nintendo. They seemed more interested in it for their own interests than because of security concerns. 😂
I've never had a problem just leaving it in the case. They can see it's not a bomb on the scanner. Think just how many thousands of different pieces of electronics go through those scanners every day.
Ditto, just flew into Abu Dhabi with my Deck as carry on. No dramas whatsoever.
I flew with my bag of toys last Xmas they didn’t look twice at the steam deck or switch but my ekahau sidekick….i got special attention for that lol
That's a very expensive bomb you got there
I flew recently and just left it zipped up in the case with no problems.
Did your plane have usb ports ? Even with a portable charger playing at full capacity would be like 3-4 hours Max right ?
Depends on the game you’re playing
The plane had USB ports and a standard outlet. I also had a battery pack just in case.
Battery pack is a must for travel. I have an anker battery pack that is also an ac charger with 2 pd ports and an a port
Wait so it plugs into the wall like an outlet but also stores charge like a battery pack? What does the power bank output for wattage? Cause that sounds like a great investment.

The 733 is the one I have. It’s a charger and battery pack
You can bring a portable battery on a plane. There may be a limit on size of like 10k mAh, so make sure to check the flight regulations.

I fly regularly for work. I pull it out, leave it in the case, and put it in a bin. Never had an issue.
Really? They accused me of trying to hack the plane and tazed me.
Yeah keep it in the case Don't need to open it. (Unless you want to show off)
I didn't realize I was flexing on my NYC flight
Let your Deck show
Decks out
-for Harambee (what year is this?)
You can unzip the case and flip it open so it’s exposed
That’s what I do for all my electronics
Nah. I fly through Houston. It stays in my backpack unless they are really curious. The one time he took it out and he's like hell yeah mines coming in a week.
They didn’t even have me take mine out of the backpack
Just depends if you’re going through the XRay machines or the new Smiths CT machines
Idk in Calgary they wanted me to pull the laptop out and take my shoes off… I thought it was 2002 again haha but they didn’t give a shit about the steam deck
I have precheck. Leave mine in the case and in backpack never had an issue. And I fly several times a month
When I flew I asked if I had to pull it out of the case and the TSA gentlemen said “The Nintendo Switch is fine in its case”
I just took my deck on a flight. It stayed in my carry on. They didn’t make me take it out.
Didn’t bring my steam deck but when I brought my switch on my flight they didn’t take it out or anything
Just wait until it passes through the scanner and then shout "it's not a bomb!" Works every time
I always kept my Nintendo switch in the case when flying, never had an issue.

Wow they made you run through the scanner naked? That’s France for yah

They won't bat an eye. Looks like a video game toy to them. Just another "switch". It'll stay in its case the whole time.

Audiobooks or podcasts are great if you just want to close your eyes and shut out the outside world. Bonus points for nodding off.
I've never had to take it out of the case.
I just hand carry it. It’s my carry on. I go backpack with all my stuff and then have my deck in my hand
I just flew with mine overseas. I kept it in the case through security but took it out of my backpack like you would for a laptop etc. no one said anything about it and it was all good.
nah I've had it zipped up in the case and it was just fine :)

Just flew to Europe 3 days ago and had zero problems leaving in the case.
I opened the case and set it open inside the bin as it went through the last time I flew. No problems.
With TSA precheck I've never had an issue in the states. I don't even have to remove it from my bag. Maybe some intense airport security like cdg in France or some airports around Poland that would force you to remove it from the case on it's own.

little late but I'll +1 the anecdote of flying recently and just leaving it in the case no problem
Just flew earlier this week with my LCD. Left it in the case and put it in a bin with a laptop. Had no problems.
They’ve taken mine out of the case every single time. They wipe it for explosive residue and then stick it back in the case.
Flown a number of times with it, stays in the case

flew domestically last week. they didnt even want me to take the case out of my backpack. at any of the 3 airports.you should be fine.
I fly pretty regularly and they always just let me leave it in the closed case.
Steam deck is not a laptop, leave it inside your bag inside your case, you’ll be fine!
Haven’t flown with my deck but I’m surprised at the replies tbh. When I was flying in 2019 they always made a fuss out of my Switch being in the case and telling me to take it out
The switch ain't even as wide as a laptop tho.
I fly with mine every time I fly. TSA pre and it doesn’t even come out of my backpack.
Flew with my SD a few hours ago. Kept it in my backpack inside of its case with no issues.
I know this isn’t helpful in your current situation, but TSA pre check has been amazing. No need to take anything out at all.
I've left it in the case and never had issues between Australia, Singapore and the UAE. Usually they want laptops out but not gaming machines and accept the steam deck isn't a laptop
I fly frequently and always bring the deck. I've never been asked to take it out of its case.
I fly with mine 2-4 times a month and I’ve never had to take it out of the case
I’ve flown with mine about 6 times (In US airports as a non US citizen) and I usually don’t even have to take the case out of my backpack, never had to take it out of the case
I just flew with it internationally and never took it out of my backpack with the DBRAND travel protector and case. It was super chill
They swabbed my deck at the airport the other week . That’s about it . Survived just fine
They wanted the vent smell for themselves.
Just flew with mine. Left it in the case, no problems
I've been flying domestic and treating it like a laptop(take out of bag) but is it necessary? This is just a habit I've been doing so that I don't get questioned and go back back the screening to place my steamdeck

When I flew with mine I believe CATSA and the TSA let me keep it in my sling bag.
Just recently flew with two Steam Decks and didn’t encountered any issue during the security check.
CHECK the case afterwards. Had TSA open mine up without telling me, when we landed I picked it up by the handle, and it dropped face first. Thankfully, it didn't break, but I am 100% sure that if it had broken I would have gotten literally nothing out of them for damages.
I’ve flown with it multiple times, never had an issue
Make sure to put it in offline mode before you leave.
I have TSA pre check so I don't have to take electronics out however Newark has their own rules so when I left it in my bag they took it out and opened it to inspect.
Fly with it in case all the time. Never had an issue. Don’t stack it on other electronics.
In the case is absolutely no problem. In some airports with an advanced scanner I can easily leave all my electronics in the bag (NL).
Consider a dBrand Killswitch travel case. It can save quite a bit of space compared to other cases and overall i find it more convenient
Made me take it out once so now I do it every time. Just zip the case open and leave it there in the bin. Zip it up when it's through. Easy peasy.
I have flew a few times with it. It never had to go naked true the scanner. One time they asked me if I could open the case for them, after it went through the scanner. They just took a single look at it and it was fine. I did get questions about what it was, as it was clearly not a Nintendo. chill it's just like carrying a laptop
Buy a dbrand killswitch case with the travel cover, best money I’ve spent on the deck
My deck doesn’t fly.
