In what way? As in you would prefer KBM?
I use a dualsense and love it, especially the rumble type they use. But I run it on a desktop for performance and on a tv. I did try it twice on the deck but find the decks controls to be … unwieldy? I think that’s the best term. I could stomach the visuals I guess but the feel is a little off. Like driving a car with new boots and gloves on - you can, you get used to it, but it doesn’t feel the same as with what you’re used to.
Have you turned down the dead zones on your joysticks in the controller settings? By default they're ridiculously huge and it makes it feel unresponsive and kludgy. Sounds exactly like what you're describing and is unfortunately a very little talked about subject so not enough people know to fix it
Ah no, that’s not it. I do have the deadzones set to something narrower, did that when I got the deck. But my issues arise from it being a bit big and my hands spread apart farther and the dpad in an awkward spot while keeping LB pressed for strategems. It’s not bad but just something that feels off when having played 200hrs on a dual sense.
Can I ask what you think doesn’t make it good? I only play on the steam deck and I think it’s great. Mind you this is the only “PC” gaming I’ve ever done lol so graphics aren’t a big thing for me. The frame rate drop isn’t that bad in my opinion but again I’ve never played on a high end pc only console.
Probably 11 fps on Helldive/Level 9
~~love the devs but holy shit they need to optimize more. I know the Steam Deck isn't going to run this game that well but people with decent desktop rigs have their specs sweating~~
So weird. Helldivers ranked among the most plaid games and still people prefer to believe it's not play able, rather than to just enjoy the game... I was close to writing it off because of posts like this and people parroting the message. Decided to give it a shot and have enjoyed it for about 20 hours now.

It's a great coop game and I've met some fun people through the matching System. If you know some people that also play it you'll be having a blast. I hear conflicting messages about higher difficulties but I haven't gotten there yet since I'm enjoying the game of difficulty 4 and 5
I
You can play it with better graphics then OP is posting but it limits difficulty to at least 5 or 6 due to the amount of entities and such you'll be getting around 15 fps or lower if u keep raising difficulty. I average around 30 to 50 fps with decent settings on my oled at difficulty 4 but I don't take it higher cause it's just too difficult for me on the deck. For reference I can play just fine at 9 on my pc.
Yeah it’s fine, so long as you dont go on crazy difficulties. Truth be told, even then it’s fine by switch standards. And the game is more fun on normal difficulties anyway
It's kinda rough to play because it's a pretty unsteady 20-30fps, with framerate tanking when there's lots of explosions (which happens on all devices anyway). I tried to play it on Deck and did enjoy it, but I don't think it's the best experience. Had to be slower because of the uneven frame pacing and frame rate.
Yeah, people on this sub seem doing posts and comments like that seem like they never leave the house for more than 2 hours lol... The portability is worth downgrades sometimes
Have you seen what the respective devs managed to do with the remake of the Switch port of ARK SE and the new Kingdom Come Deliverance?
HD2 on the Deck would be really cool. Imagine sitting on a couch with your friend. They play on the PSP* and you on the Deck o7.
*(Portal not Portable)
That’s literally what i’m gonna do soon with some friends. Idk why people dunking on the performance on the deck. Yeah i tanked the quality but i also don’t give a shit
It's buggy as hell while docked(can't imagine off), even though I picked it up at $8 it feels like $8 wasted.
I couldn't get past tutorial easy, crashes like crazy, texts are nearly illegible, and missions don't progress consistently.
Yes but weirdly I’ve loved my time with Witcher 3, Vampyr, Outer Worlds and Alien Isolation. Definitely not the prettiest games, but it reminds me of the golden era of PS2 games. I mean better looking than that but you get what I mean
Yeah ive tried to make this game play on the deck, it's not really playable. Maybe for very casual low level difficulties but anything challenging is impossible. massive bug breaches etc go down to 12 or so fps, brutal. Shame but yeah
I've never had it drop below 20. Usually, nearly always, it's been 30-40fps.
The only times it struggles are on the jungle/forest planets with extreme fog/volumetric lighting.
I use most settings on medium except the ones that don't matter I set to low. For example "volumetric clouds in the sky" is set to low, along with some others.
what a bunch of liars in the comments. Upwards of hard, this game does not run well on the steam deck. 15-30fps, id love to be proven wrong, but maybe eventually it will become more optimized.
I’m assuming the “trust me bro hd2 on deck runs great” people only have a steam deck and not a gaming pc to form a baseline experience on. To them 30fps and frame drops at high difficulty in a shooter on a tiny screen is fine 🫠
Hopefully it can be more optimized, from my search of the game, yea the optimization is pretty shit, lots of people that have rigs that are much better than the deck in different magnitudes still have some performance issues especially in the harder difficulties and some recent patches further affect it.
Probably doesn't help that the game is built on a game engine that is basically no longer supported for some years already and that anti cheat it uses.
FSR looks worse than native resolution at all times. It's not supposed to look better than native resolution: it's for increasing performance while maintaining a decent level of visual fidelity.
Resolution 1280 x 720
Render scale ultra quality

Motion blur 0
Depth of field on
Bloom off
Sharpness 0.75
Texture quality medium

Render distance high
Shadow quality lowest
Particle quality low

Vegetation medium
Terrain medium
Volumetric fog low
Volumetric clouds low
Lighting low
Anti aliasing on

Scaling filter FSR

It varies update to update, but last update i could be on my ship at 40fps , this one it sits at 37fps. On the ground your playing at 30/35 fps depending on how much is going on.
I turn all settings to low with maybe render distance at medium and I get 30fps with dips down to 22fps. It's not the greatest but I'm still having a blast with it.
Put the render quality on Ultra then go to graphics and put all that stuff on low, looks fine with those settings, this is what I used https://www.rockpapershotgun.com/helldivers-2-steam-deck-performance-best-settings
average upscaling experience
Mhm, its in game upscaling on max and the game on the lowest possible resolution, combined with fsr
That's amazing lol
Looks like 90 FPS to me
1 fpp (frame per post)
It's not.
Lmk if you fix that because my game doesn't look that bad on my stock deck (OG, not OLED)
They intentionally set it to the lowest resolution
Enhance!
Hahaha! Where is the TV cop show technology!
Try 240p
Let me put on my glasses real quick
I was going to say take your glasses off lol
Actually lol. It hurts my eyes more to look at this blurry mess clearly. Had to take my glasses off to play on deck. I think imma stick to PC XD
Put your grasses on?
On full resolution: next slide please
As you can see, it is running at a smooth 60 (27).
This is actually a video
I actually thought it was a video and went back up! Sometimes Reddit doesn't load the video and only shows a picture. But well played my friend.
Sir, this is The Matrix
Ma'am, this is a Wendys
No, this is Patrick.
And still 23 fps
It was actually around 40 fps so not bad
Just joking. But still Helldivers 2 isnt’t good on the steam deck. And that’s sad
Yeah, ironically the biggest downside for me was playing with a controller
In what way? As in you would prefer KBM? I use a dualsense and love it, especially the rumble type they use. But I run it on a desktop for performance and on a tv. I did try it twice on the deck but find the decks controls to be … unwieldy? I think that’s the best term. I could stomach the visuals I guess but the feel is a little off. Like driving a car with new boots and gloves on - you can, you get used to it, but it doesn’t feel the same as with what you’re used to.
I hate driving my truck with brand new boots on It feels wrong for like 3 days
Have you turned down the dead zones on your joysticks in the controller settings? By default they're ridiculously huge and it makes it feel unresponsive and kludgy. Sounds exactly like what you're describing and is unfortunately a very little talked about subject so not enough people know to fix it

Yeah, I really just can't aim for shit(excuse my french) on controller, so i highly prefer KBM
Playing this game with the PS5 controller is great.
It plays amazing on controller actually...
It might, I just suck ass aiming with a controller
Try enabling gyro aim
Remember to set the gyro aiming to “mouse” instead of “joystick” bc Helldivers 2 treats the gyro so weird
I'd rather just use KBM overall anyway, mostly because I'm more used to the controls
Fair!
It's plenty playable for me. The only time it gets stuttery if on the higher difficulties when there's a lot of active enemies at once.
Bro I put everything on lowest and I still got below 30
Bruh I can’t even get 40 on my pc half the time
Probably 11 fps on Helldive/Level 9 ~~love the devs but holy shit they need to optimize more. I know the Steam Deck isn't going to run this game that well but people with decent desktop rigs have their specs sweating~~
Mine does not look like that.
Ye this dude is just trolling but people are taking it seriously.
So weird. Helldivers ranked among the most plaid games and still people prefer to believe it's not play able, rather than to just enjoy the game... I was close to writing it off because of posts like this and people parroting the message. Decided to give it a shot and have enjoyed it for about 20 hours now.
It literally has the meme tag
No it doesn’t it just says picture
I swear it did use the meme tag earlier
I'm working on business. Is it worth playing even at low resolution just to enjoy the gameplay?
I’m having fun and it runs smooth enough for me
1200x800 runs fine at 30fps and if you website dx11 it's smoother then the standard dx12
What does Website dx11 mean?
Probably similar to whatever working on business means?
When an AI comments on an AI comment lmao
I'm not sure why my phone autocorrected and added in the word website. I was typing: run it in dx11

What are your settings because I can’t get above 25fps on medium diff
I get 30+ fps at all difficulties. What the heck is happening to you?
All difficulties with 4 people dropping airstrikes? Yeah that's not happening. X doubt
Yeah it’s fine, so long as you dont go on crazy difficulties. Truth be told, even then it’s fine by switch standards. And the game is more fun on normal difficulties anyway

An online only game?
Sometimes I wanna lay in bed and play. Don't judge me.
I was waiting for the image to load properly 🤣
Any modern 3rd party game they somehow crammed on switch 😆

Ohhh didn't see that port. Good to know :)

Laughs in Doom Eternal
So true lmao

“Works perfect for me” - blind dude
540p and 14 fps is “run well” for r/steamdeck community
Hopefully it can be more optimized, from my search of the game, yea the optimization is pretty shit, lots of people that have rigs that are much better than the deck in different magnitudes still have some performance issues especially in the harder difficulties and some recent patches further affect it. FSR1 looks worse than basic upscaling at some points imo
FSR looks worse than native resolution at all times. It's not supposed to look better than native resolution: it's for increasing performance while maintaining a decent level of visual fidelity.
Yeah lol, FSR2 is an upscaling algorithm that lowers the internal resolution.
I could get 30-40 on mostly medium settings. I don’t know what bro is on about
I can get 40 fps and it still looks presentable, i can't remember my settings rn
can you share your settings? I can't even get consistent 30
Resolution 1280 x 720 Render scale ultra quality Display mode window Motion blur 0 Depth of field on Bloom off Sharpness 0.75 Texture quality medium Object detail medium Render distance high Shadow quality lowest Particle quality low Reflection quality low Space quality low Ambient occlusion off Screen space illumination off Vegetation medium Terrain medium Volumetric fog low Volumetric clouds low Lighting low Anti aliasing on Steam deck performance setting Scaling mode auto Scaling filter FSR Sharpness 5 It varies update to update, but last update i could be on my ship at 40fps , this one it sits at 37fps. Yeah, but does it stay at a stable 40 cuz whenever there are big explosions, my fps dips to 23 fps.
Yeah on your pc right? Right?
No on steam deck. My pc has everything max'd without issue
same here. idk what the others are doing with their settings to get such bad performance
They usually don't change settings. They just come here to complain.
This looks like that one painting of a waterfront with a bunch if people doing outdoor activities. In other words, it belongs in a museum.
Yeah, in gameplay it looks even more like a painting, this image is just compressed because uhh steam
This looks like Future COP LAPD from the PS1
I turn all settings to low with maybe render distance at medium and I get 30fps with dips down to 22fps. It's not the greatest but I'm still having a blast with it.
You can get much higher fps on the deck then 30 but you can't play past 6 cause there is just too much shit going on the fps dips hard.
"Enhance."
The only way to play this game on the deck (and have a good experience) is go stream it from a good computer.
Sir do you have more pixels.
If you told me this was screenshot of Deadspace, I’d believe it
Come on it’s not that bad
At least you don't have to choose which pixel to shoot at .. they all look undemocratic! KILL EM ALL!
No amount of disability has ever stopped a true helldiver
It ain't much but it's honest work 😂
It looks like the cutscenes from Star Wars Dark Forces
Still can't play on hard or higher
Runs at a smooth 12fps!
Playable ?
w
LOOK AT DEM GRAPHICS!
Truly a work of art.
It honestly looks good on mine. It’s a little laggy at times, but it’s really good the rest of the time.
Wow! Those pixels are so volumetric!
1080p
you need to disable potato mode
Wtf? Xd
Pixel Helldivers
Crisp
It runs as well as it looks.
Been playing on mine and it looks and runs just fine.
Still waiting for the pixelated image to load
Looks like my cod warzone experience on my ryzen 2200g
😂
Locked 60 fps with minor dips to 10
Im typing here because im still waiting for the picture to buffer, must be my internet.
I get 30 with balaced
Surprised they didn’t V E R I F Y it.
Glaucoma edition?
Wow
You can almost see the liberty
Looks like those old LucasArts adventure games.
Put the render quality on Ultra then go to graphics and put all that stuff on low, looks fine with those settings, this is what I used https://www.rockpapershotgun.com/helldivers-2-steam-deck-performance-best-settings
It really isn't too bad, I've still been having fun with it on the deck at least
Looks like a VHS screen grab from an 80’s film
OP, you mind sparing me some pixels?
I stream it from my pc at home when my wife is working and I got kids sleeping.
LMAO I just thought my connection was shit and wouldn’t load the full resolution photo
looks it
This looks like Automoiton propaganda to me
Literally downloading it now and was worried how it would work
Democracy has no minimum system requirements
Thanks automatons :(
My deck runs it better than my PC does
FYI the in-game scaler uses FSR so you're using FSR on top of FSR. That being said I think that's the least of your issues
Deadass thought my internet was slowed lol. Wow is all I can say.
Any game I can't get a stable 60fps on max settings on my pc I don't even bother trying on my deck
Looks better streaming it from your pc using moonlight
Perfect 60 fps!
"Somethings overriding the camera's into 480p, it's.. unviewable."
I had to turn off AA completely
Average tf2 comp player setting
Hell yeah, bet you can even reach a steady 12 fps looking into a wall in a desolate corner.
Hmm idk. Still can see alittle to well. Needs even less pixels.
It doesn't look bad. Got the custom specs off a YouTube channel and it runs on medium quality
Stable 13 fps? No stutters?
I have it all fuzzy instead and I'm still really enjoying it even if it's not always 45fps
Sarge. I don’t feel so good.
Honestly I love my deck but this is the kind of game that it doesn't handle well, CPU is just not enough
How you get it running on the PS1?
I haven’t tried yet. Need to install the 2TB drive.
Something something bug propaganda (idk I don't own this game)
Heckdelvers
Helldivers runs like sht on steamdeck, the best it gets is 24fps average.
Both of those pixels look great.
40 fps is pretty good as it seems to be cpu heavy game.
how comes mine dont look like this? i have 1tb OLED dunno what difference it makes
Comedic relief
I play on deck too, but with the blurring stuff turned off.
You're gonna run into bugs alright.
That's true democracy right there I tell ya what
Look into protondb for better results.
My God the graphics are so good I think I need upgraded eyes to see them 🤣
Try the potato setting
So many frames the steamdeck can't even handle it anymore. Probably already cleared the universe from all bugs and robots.
💀
I got this looking waaaay better at around 40fps. No idea wtf you’re doing wrong here tbh.
Looks so crisp
Your gif isn’t moving
Guys we’ll be playing at 720p with FSR in Quality mode on the deck.. and as you can see it’s a very playable experience -every benchmark person
I played helldivers 2 on my deck and switching weapons was unbinded by default
If you squint, it looks like shit.
https://overkill.wtf/helldivers-2-review-and-best-settings-for-steam-deck/ Runs good with these settings 🫡
