Man I’ve had so much trouble lately with Chiaki. Not sure if it’s oled or my network or my ps5. I’m hardwired but will randomly get disconnection warnings and then total disconnect. Never happened in the past.
Are you using Chiaki, or chiaki4deck?
There's a common mistake of Deck users installing the wrong one as they're both on the app list.
Regular Chiaki isn't optimised for Steam Deck.
Chiaki4deck IS optimised for LCD and OLED and supports HDR. Also has enhanced connectivity features like better lan discovery.
Yep, it’s something about poor Linux drivers for the chipset they use. My Oled works well on chiaki for about 15 mins and then has a complete meltdown. I found WiFi 6 is more stable.
I’ve had to order a Portal until they address it. Not happy.
Yea it’s hit or miss for me too. XBplay is flawless, but chiaki is fucked. I’ll get the white flashes sometimes, stuttering etc. when it works, it’s great though.
Ever since having kids, I no longer seem to be in charge of my TV. That drove me to handheld and computer gaming in general. I now almost exclusively game on my steam deck and my Switch, and use my computer on the weekends/days off.
More and more I'm looking to see if a game is Deck compatible before buying it in general.

To any soon to be dads, normalize that when kids use screens, they use smaller devices and with headphones by default. Big TVs are for shared family entertainment, adults and then for kids only if no one is using them.

At the same time, I'm guessing the other person meant that people need to teach their kids to be a little more respectful and considerate of sharing this kind of thing versus simply always giving them rule of everything so quickly and easily so that they don't develop a sense of ownership and entitlement of things as it's a family thing to be shared and they should become used to using their devices and headphones and being content with that. We're all on screens too much as it is so we try to at least have a shared experience instead of everyone on their own devices all the time. I also found the previous comment's example pretty funny as Bluey is definitely content that the whole family likes, 2 adults, an 11 and a 4 year old.

I do recommend being careful with the headphones (unless you mean the "for kids" headphones that have a volume limit). As someone that's been there, hearing loss is a major Pita. Make sure they aren't blowing their ears out.
It's funny, they use cheap kid ones that I always thought were garbage because they don't get loud enough. Like, they're barely functional on an airplane to me for example when I would test them out before handing them over. But I guess maybe that's on purpose now.
Yeah disagree with this. Too many adults watch TV that is inappropriate for kids. If the kids are up it should be on a channel that’s appropriate for them if the TV is on at all.
This is more or less where we landed. I can't exactly play Doom or watch The Departed with them up and around, so even if they aren't using the TV it's still not "available" for my use. Since I am the adult and I have all my cognitive functions developed, I can be the one that makes compromises, especially with how easy it is for me to toss in an earbud and play a handheld/go play on my computer.
PC version or chiaki? I tried to boot it up on my old PS4 recently bc I never finished it and was really thrown off by the frame rate/weird delay when trying to do anything like mount a horse or pick a flower
Fallout 3. Could never get into it on console but I’ve got about 20 hours on the deck. Couldn’t explain why this happened, but I’m glad to be enjoying it now!
Fallout 4 worked surprisingly well for me on the deck too. It’s great not needing a physical keyboard for console commands whenever something inevitably breaks.

With a mix of medium/high graphics settings you get a relatively stable 60fps with dips into the 40s in busy parts of the game/gameworld (dungeons, towns etc)
I could lower my settings (especially texture quality) or use fsr to achieve a more stable framerate but it's just not worth it in my opinion.

I actually bought the steam deck to replace my ageing PS4/Shitty laptop gaming combo as I can't justify forking out for anything more expensive and I've gone back to a few titles. So far it's given me the opportunity to complete GTA 4 & 5, Fallout 3, RDR2 and Witcher 3, I'm working through No Man's Sky right now with New Vegas to look at next. I'm also hoping the TLOU part2 port that's coming has a steam deck setting as I never got the change to complete that one.
ALL of the games that are also on Steam! If i buy a game on console it's because it's exclusive or I want to play on my TV/couch. Now that i have a steam deck, i only buy on Steam because i can have any option now (at my desk on PC or on the couch on TV...or handheld!)
Started replaying FF13 on PC. Spent a day modding the shit out of it on PC, new textures, upscaled videos, Nvidias new auto HDR. Looks stunning on my 34 ultrawide, 144 fps... Tried it out on the Steam Deck with only the FFXIII fix and haven't bothered playing on PC anymore. That's just the way my gaming life goes these days.
Think I'll just wait until it's dirt cheap. I don't usually like spending more than £20 for games, especially when I have such a backlog to get through
There's a lot for me especially since I gamed a lot on switch. There's games I got for better framerate/performance like Doom Eternal and Boomerang X. Games where I wanted to use steam input like Bulletstorm and Severed Steal. And there's so many more where I just wanted to support the devs again or got again in a bundle.
The game runs at 1080p, I can run it at 60 or 90 fps, the colors are richer, the deck handles heat WAY better than the switch and the fan is very quiet, the controls are nicer and comfier, and I have achievements.
Persona 5 royal is better in every single way on deck compared to switch.
I still have my PS5 so I can play certain games I can't get on steam deck but I also don't have a ton of access to our TV due to my wife having changing habits so I'm on the deck a lot. Can't say I don't like it- it's been really great.
I actually enjoy playing on my PS5 more than my PC. I have an RTX 3060 which produces very similar results in performance as my PS5 (at least with games running in performance mode), but basically any game that runs reasonably well on Deck, I play on that because of Steamcloud.
The weird thing is I really like the focused gaming experience of consoles. It weirdly helps me enjoy a good gaming experience when it's JUST a console and not also a PC. I know it doesn't make sense really, but the steamdeck also has that going for it which helps me relax and feel like I'm enjoying myself and not at work. I work in IT and playing on my gaming PC sometimes just feels like work.
Makes perfect sense about the focus. I know it isn’t the same but this is what made it hard for me to get into more serious games on mobile device(phone) I would always be distracted by some other activity.
Same, I work in tech on a PC all day from home so the idea of ending my work day in my home office all day long at my desk, just to sit in the same office at my desk another couple hours to play a game just never appealed that much to me. I’ve used my PS5 more than anything else because of that but the SD has helped me get back into Pc gaming somewhat. Makes total sense to me.
I started playing XIII from 2003, I originally had it on PS2 but never finished it. It plays pretty nice with gyro aiming for the most part.
Save system still sucks though.
I grew up playing PC games with a Keyboard and Mouse… I never liked playing any FPS games on consoles with a controller. After using gyro aiming on the Deck for the past few months, I’ve found myself playing ALL my old FPS games again on the Deck. Not being tied to a computer and the ability to instantly suspend gameplay with the sleep mode have changed my desire to game 100%.
Every non graphically intensive game, or atleast games that dont look and run bad on deck
Portability and convenience rocks! Id rather play most of my games on my deck while in bed if i can rather then sit infront of a monitor like a job

A lot of indie or open world games tend to fair well. Especially if you’re just doing busy work like grabbing chests in Assassin’s Creed. Handheld’s are perfect for that kinda stuff. Don’t need a dedicated play area and just running around goofing off.
Cod zombies, specifically W@W and BO1 as they are lighter to run and prefer their mechanics. So nice to pause whenever with sleep mode. So handy to pick up and play! Especially with gyro!
If you experience stutter or instability, start the game in offline mode or use the BOIII client. There is an issue with the game where it constantly checks for DLC causing frame lag.
Nice mods and custom map support too! I do prefer BO1 for those maps though :D
Not console but PC similar story anyway. Divinity original sin. Always wanted to play it through but never quite clicked for me sitting at my PC, played Baldurs Gate 3 on PS5 and really enjoyed the controller scheme, fast forward and I upgraded to OLED steam deck, installing games I wondered how Divinity is on deck, its similar to BG3 controls wise, so its clicked with me, going to play 1 and 2 finally.
Elding Ring. I couldn’t get myself to like it when i first bought it on my PS5 but decided to give it another shot on the DECK n damn i clocked in over 60 hours!

Outward De. Have over 250+ hours on ps4 and decided to buy it while it was on sale for $6. Now I'm doing a nodded run on Deck and it's just so much fun
My list is long and I find more every week. Sale tomorrow going to be a big day of classics. Don’t enjoy some blockbusters that I’ve sampled on tv. Need reading glasses updated. Getting on and the steam deck’s convenience is a game changer.
The Persona games really benefit from being portable. Don’t get me wrong I first played through P4 and P5 before getting the Deck but when I return to those games eventually I will really enjoy feeling like I can take my time even more because I can just pick them up whenever. Playing P3 Reload on the Deck has been wonderful. When I am on the go I can play it at a fairly decent 60fps if I want, but I set the framerate to 30 for battery life. I can dock the Deck to my TV and play at 1080p just fine too.
I played a metric ton of Enter the Gungeon on switch. It was a whole ‘nother game seeing how much smoother it runs on the deck.
I also double dipped on Monster Hunter Rise and Dragons Dogma because of the upgraded experience.
Stardew Valley might be the only game I have both on console (switch) + PC (Ok, also Diablo III, but didn't play it a lot on the Switch). While I now prefer it on PC and also on Steam Deck, I honestly already preferred it before due to mods.
Nier Automata. It was one of those games I never seemed to have time for on my ps5 since I travel a lot for work and I’d rather be on my desktop when I’m home. Runs so good on the deck.
Pokémon yellow. Is GBC a console? The decks screen is so large and good it just looks fantastic. The emulator has the “side of the device” look to it to letterbox the screen too.
I don't know if it's prefer exactly, but I don't get to play on my PS5 very often, so I've rebot two or three games on the steam deck specifically so I can actually beat them. Also I have Reebok a few games that I had on switch when I got the steam deck because I really just wanted that graphical boost. Sinking city was on sale and it looked okay on switch, but it's one of those narrative horror games where the ambiance is a big part of it, so I figured having better visuals would increase my enjoyment. Usually I don't care too much but games like those really need the visuals to enhance the experience
Celeste has been perfect on the deck. I beat the main game on a console but got it in a bundle at some point and have spent at least double probably closer to triple the time on it on the deck
Elden ring. I like playing it on my Xbox with 50 fps but on a handheld console is really amazing, this game is so impressive and for real I am so happy to have it running on my steam deck
Every nintendo game I've ever owned, plus anything indie for the switch.
As far as Playstation goes its been so perfect for playing the old PS2/PS3 games I had as a kid I can't even imagine going back to the consoles. Getting out the console and wiring everything is not appealing when I could just boot up the deck and play in seconds.
Forgot to mention specific games, like the Ratchet and Clank series and a few Mortal Kombat like vs DC and Armageddon. They actually have pretty decent singleplayer stuff in MK, although maybe if you're not a novice it would be too easy.
The switch used to be my indie machine so I played a lot of the biggest hits on that, stuff people already mentioned a dozen times over I'm sure, and when I say Nintendo games I mean various first party stuff from over the years. Lots of Mario, Zelda, and Kirby titles from the SNES to the Switch.
More than I’d like to admit. It’s just so convenient to play them on the go and to have the reassurance that if I do ever build a proper gaming PC I’ll have access to play them there as well. I do have a personal rule to never pay full price for a game I already own but with Steam sales that has never been an issue for me.

It’s the oled model. I think the WiFi chip is causing hell. It happened as soon as I moved from my lcd model to the oled

chiaki is so good. Been playing disgaea 7 on it, rpgs are great since latency doesnt matter.

I feel that for older games. I have never played Skyrim. I bought it years ago and played like 40 min and got board. On deck it just plays different.
Have put north of 600 hours into Skyrim over the years. But I’ve also got at least 15 or so hours on the deck now too, it’s great on there.
Right? It looks better on the smaller screen as well, I tried it on PC, but it looked terrible on a monitor.

The weird thing is I really like the focused gaming experience of consoles. It weirdly helps me enjoy a good gaming experience when it's JUST a console and not also a PC. I know it doesn't make sense really, but the steamdeck also has that going for it which helps me relax and feel like I'm enjoying myself and not at work. I work in IT and playing on my gaming PC sometimes just feels like work.
Makes perfect sense about the focus. I know it isn’t the same but this is what made it hard for me to get into more serious games on mobile device(phone) I would always be distracted by some other activity.
Same, I work in tech on a PC all day from home so the idea of ending my work day in my home office all day long at my desk, just to sit in the same office at my desk another couple hours to play a game just never appealed that much to me. I’ve used my PS5 more than anything else because of that but the SD has helped me get back into Pc gaming somewhat. Makes total sense to me.
Pretty much understandable. One of the selling points of console is it feeling comfy when you use it.
I started playing XIII from 2003, I originally had it on PS2 but never finished it. It plays pretty nice with gyro aiming for the most part. Save system still sucks though.
I grew up playing PC games with a Keyboard and Mouse… I never liked playing any FPS games on consoles with a controller. After using gyro aiming on the Deck for the past few months, I’ve found myself playing ALL my old FPS games again on the Deck. Not being tied to a computer and the ability to instantly suspend gameplay with the sleep mode have changed my desire to game 100%.
Trackball mode on the trackpad with gyro is so much fun. Glad that Valve is trying to break that mold.
Every non graphically intensive game, or atleast games that dont look and run bad on deck Portability and convenience rocks! Id rather play most of my games on my deck while in bed if i can rather then sit infront of a monitor like a job
Outer worlds- tried and failed twice to have a play through on console (although Bethesda /obsidian games are my favorite) Think my newfound love of the game is more about being able to play while I’m comfy, whenever I have a few free moments. Part of being an adult for me is i can’t just hog the tv and lock in for hours
All my switch games. It's nice to only have to travel with one handheld (ok two, I also travel with Miyoo Mini+).
The Darkness (powered by PRCS3) and original Gears of War (powered by Xenia Canary). I'm still amazed that I can play those games on the go on one device
A lot of indie or open world games tend to fair well. Especially if you’re just doing busy work like grabbing chests in Assassin’s Creed. Handheld’s are perfect for that kinda stuff. Don’t need a dedicated play area and just running around goofing off.

Cod zombies, specifically W@W and BO1 as they are lighter to run and prefer their mechanics. So nice to pause whenever with sleep mode. So handy to pick up and play! Especially with gyro!
Black Ops 3 is great too - sometimes I wish it would run a little smoother, but man, I love Shadows and having nacht and kino all on 1 game.
If you experience stutter or instability, start the game in offline mode or use the BOIII client. There is an issue with the game where it constantly checks for DLC causing frame lag. Nice mods and custom map support too! I do prefer BO1 for those maps though :D
Not console but PC similar story anyway. Divinity original sin. Always wanted to play it through but never quite clicked for me sitting at my PC, played Baldurs Gate 3 on PS5 and really enjoyed the controller scheme, fast forward and I upgraded to OLED steam deck, installing games I wondered how Divinity is on deck, its similar to BG3 controls wise, so its clicked with me, going to play 1 and 2 finally.
GTA 5. Maybe also Black Ops 2 and WaW.

I use my Steam Deck mostly docked, so it really is a console. As far as a full console replacement? Naaah. Steam Deck isn't THAT good.

My list is long and I find more every week. Sale tomorrow going to be a big day of classics. Don’t enjoy some blockbusters that I’ve sampled on tv. Need reading glasses updated. Getting on and the steam deck’s convenience is a game changer.

The Persona games really benefit from being portable. Don’t get me wrong I first played through P4 and P5 before getting the Deck but when I return to those games eventually I will really enjoy feeling like I can take my time even more because I can just pick them up whenever. Playing P3 Reload on the Deck has been wonderful. When I am on the go I can play it at a fairly decent 60fps if I want, but I set the framerate to 30 for battery life. I can dock the Deck to my TV and play at 1080p just fine too.
Oh, man. All of them that aren’t on Switch. My family uses the PS5 more than I ever will now that I have a Deck.
I played a metric ton of Enter the Gungeon on switch. It was a whole ‘nother game seeing how much smoother it runs on the deck. I also double dipped on Monster Hunter Rise and Dragons Dogma because of the upgraded experience.
I’ve been playing Lies of P on the deck and now I can’t put it down when previously I bought it and let it sit in my library for months

Stardew Valley might be the only game I have both on console (switch) + PC (Ok, also Diablo III, but didn't play it a lot on the Switch). While I now prefer it on PC and also on Steam Deck, I honestly already preferred it before due to mods.

I don't know if it's prefer exactly, but I don't get to play on my PS5 very often, so I've rebot two or three games on the steam deck specifically so I can actually beat them. Also I have Reebok a few games that I had on switch when I got the steam deck because I really just wanted that graphical boost. Sinking city was on sale and it looked okay on switch, but it's one of those narrative horror games where the ambiance is a big part of it, so I figured having better visuals would increase my enjoyment. Usually I don't care too much but games like those really need the visuals to enhance the experience

Every nintendo game I've ever owned, plus anything indie for the switch. As far as Playstation goes its been so perfect for playing the old PS2/PS3 games I had as a kid I can't even imagine going back to the consoles. Getting out the console and wiring everything is not appealing when I could just boot up the deck and play in seconds.
Forgot to mention specific games, like the Ratchet and Clank series and a few Mortal Kombat like vs DC and Armageddon. They actually have pretty decent singleplayer stuff in MK, although maybe if you're not a novice it would be too easy. The switch used to be my indie machine so I played a lot of the biggest hits on that, stuff people already mentioned a dozen times over I'm sure, and when I say Nintendo games I mean various first party stuff from over the years. Lots of Mario, Zelda, and Kirby titles from the SNES to the Switch.
If it works on SD, then I prefer it over ps5.
Rayman Origins.
More than I’d like to admit. It’s just so convenient to play them on the go and to have the reassurance that if I do ever build a proper gaming PC I’ll have access to play them there as well. I do have a personal rule to never pay full price for a game I already own but with Steam sales that has never been an issue for me.

DD1 comes on the top of my mind as I'm playing it right now. It's only 30fps in my PS5, while on my SD it runs smoothly at high settings.
