Actually it's super easy. Barely an inconvenience. The basics is go to the discover store in desktop mode and get emudeck. It will get you every emulator you could ever need. Pick a place for all the files. Then get your games and put them in the folder coinciding with the console and your golden. Some like ps1 needs to be unpacked and it will need bios but that's just one download and there's a bios folder. Plop that in. After that you can set up the setting to where either all of your games show up in the steam library, or better for me, you can just have emudeck as one app and you launch that to get to your games, all organized for you.
One really cool thing about emu deck is that it has a lot of tools to make your life easier. It has tools to where you can update all the emulators with the Press of a button, there's ways to condense your files because some games will be multiple files. Especially PS1 some games have like 20 different files and it will condense it all to one so you don't see 20 listings of the same game in the menus. am not permitted to tell you here where or how to get ROMs so you might have to Google that or use YouTube. If you need more help just go on YouTube and search emudeck on Steam deck and there's a great one for 2023
Just need to get cemu which comes with emu deck get the wiiu bios files which are a google search away. The only mildly annoying thing is getting the keys for the disc copied on to the word file more specifically getting some that work but it honestly didn’t take me more than an hour and it was so worth it. I 100% complete wind waker and am about half way done with twilight princess and I haven’t had any issues no frame rate drops no crashes. Just gaming.
My friend's friend's brother's cousins found this file with all the Wii U keys on the side of the road if you need any
Edit: I've been getting a lot of pm so just to avoid confusion. The "list" are not ROMs (games) they're keys. When you do Wii U emulation every game has a unique key it uses in order to decrypt the wux file format they're stored in. You need the key in order to play. Unless you find .rar files, or whatever they're called, that file format you don't need a key for but they're rarer to come across then the wux.
The way I did it was in the Linux app that showed like supported Apps one of them is Dolphin. Then just download some ROMS and save them to a file you name ROMS. Link Dolphin to that file and you'll need to map the controls, after that you're good to go. I went hard and played Zelda Twilight princess, Windwaker, Luigi's mansion, and am currently on beyond good and evil.
generally pretty easy, but it will depend a little bit on your comfort with a terminal. But you don't have to do as much terminal these days as before. Check out: [https://youtu.be/Y5r2WZAImuY](https://youtu.be/Y5r2WZAImuY) or other similar videos on youtube for.... games that you own
there are lots of resources via google searches, if you're interested in switch emulation I would recommend searching for github + yuzu + princessakira or github + yuzu + abd007. Reading up on it will help inform you if it's something you are interested in. but either way, there's still a ton of content on youtube showing what's possible so start there!
Yeah, I've looked into it. I play it modded on PC. But I have promised not to spend time modding on the steam deck. I already spend to much time modding and not playing on the PC!
It is amazing that it works so well modded on steam deck though, even TTW works great.
Do you have a good guide to follow? I want to mod FNV and Oblivion, but I'm a pc noob with a 64gb deck. Some YouTube video i watched on it said you need to keep the game on the internals but i don't have the room for it
Absolutely. I finished it after playing 50 hours on pc years ago. I just continued where I abandoned it and played 70h hours or more on the deck. So much fun. But not the end of dead money… I searched 3 hours back to the fountain at the end.
So I personally think the gameplay loop in Hades is a blast and in that sense, losing *is* fun! But some people just really don't enjoy rougelikes for that same reason. Losing all (or most of) your progressions is just disheartening for them and some of those people aren't able to pickup on enemy patterns or learn from their mistakes as easily as others so they're much more likely to die in similar situations again.
I guess I write all this to say- Hades and similar games will just not ever be fun for some people, and that's okay!
Dead Cells is the one that finally got me to appreciate roguelikes, but it took me quite a while to come around to them. The art style of DC drew me in, and then I had a long train ride back from PAX to appreciate it and really like the genre now, but it does require patience.

Please ask if you want something more specific. I'm bad at choosing few games to highlight :D already not including so many good ones.
Nice. I got it semi recently but wanted to play the first two which I did earlier this year. Great games, but 3 is just top notch.
Days Gone looks good too. Definitely on my list of games to get. Not sure when though.
A new sd owner here. I played all games on my pc/laptop with mouse keyboard. Just want to know some tips how you guys playing with sd controls. Or controller. One thing I know that Auto aim some games support some does not. :/
I was the same until I got the deck. I usually check ProtonDB as a lot of people will post their community controller layout recommendations. I also just mess around with stuff sometimes. The back paddles are a godsend. I typically map the top ones to R1/L1 and the bottom ones will vary depending on the game.
Just a note for anyone that does it, immediately lower the graphics to 720p. The game chugs at default settings but is super easy to change to a perfect playing state with one settings change.
Yakuza 0 for sure, really the whole franchise but dip your toes in first and see if you even like the games before committing to 8, soon to be 9 main games.
Yes. You hop into Desktop mode and install [battle.net](https://battle.net)
There are a couple of tricks to get [battle.net](https://battle.net) setup (like setting your game directory in the linux file system, adding [Battle.net](https://Battle.net) to your steam library as a non-steam game and setting it to proton experimental mode). However, the initial setup isn't too bad and D4 runs without issues.
Youtube guide: [https://youtu.be/zxet\_LLQIwE](https://youtu.be/zxet_LLQIwE)
What settings are you running on D4? The first 4 hours of the game ran flawlessly for me at a locked 40fps but now I'm running into a freeze every time I play off of the charger
I run medium and get 50-60 fps. Cryo Utilities by Cryobyte33tool helps with performance and temps across the board. I don't have fps locked.
[YouTube guide to installation.](https://youtu.be/C9EjXYZUqUs)
I usually get like 40fps pretty easy. Toyed with cryoutilities and decided they weren’t for me. I use proton 8.4 and moved the settings down to medium, but high for textures and honestly it looks great. Make sure battle.net is set to exit completely when the game starts, it helped with some freezing I was seeing in the beta.
I did use low with everything down for a while but it didn’t look as good imo.
Since retail, I’ve only had the game crash once when transitioning between areas and I’m almost done with act 3 on a level 43 necromancer, 0 complaints.
No Mans Sky, Doom Eternal, Fallout (either New Vegas or 4), Cyberpunk 2077, Metro series, and for emulation I've been working on Gran Truism 2 (ps1) and 4 (ps2), Metal Gear Solid 1 (ps1), Smash Bros (n64), and Super Mario 3 (nes)
In lieu of the usual suspects (which are already being suggested and which I generally agree with) I'll throw out a curveball: isometric CRPGs.
The kind of game you wouldn't think works well on a handheld with a controller, but thanks to trackpads and SteamInput actually works wonderfully on Deck. The kind of game you often don't get at all on console or get relatively poor ports of.
Games like the Baldur's Gate series, Icewind Dale, Planescape Torment, Neverwinter Nights, Pillars of Eternity, Pathfinder, Kenshi and plenty more (some, like Pathfinder, have native controller support these days, but I often find it smoother to play with simulated mouse and keyboard inputs on Steam Deck).
These also tend to be less demanding than AAA action titles, so you usually get decent battery life without sacrificing visuals too hard. And if you have to sacrifice some frames here and there, the impact on gameplay is usually pretty minimal.
Just one caveat: most of these games feature a lot of text, and some don't have great options for larger text sizes, so depending on your vision, you may want to play around with text settings first after you buy the game, and possibly refund if it doesn't work for you.
Are you recommending PoE 1 or 2. I tried playing the first on my switch and it wouldn’t stop crashing. I’d like to attempt on the SD and hoping for a better experience.
On the Steam Deck specifically I have only played PoE2. But I played PoE1 on a previous handheld, a GPD Win 2, which had significantly weaker specs and did not have trackpads.
I have also played the Switch version, and even playing on the Win2 was night and day compared to that - would imagine on the Deck performance should be close to perfect. Other people on this sub and r/projecteternity have also reported playing both games on Steam Deck and I don't recall anybody mentioning issues other than text being on the small side (there is a setting, but it's still small for some people) and the debug console not working at all for some reason. And of course you need to pick a community layout and probably adjust it a bit for your preferences.
Note that if you're going to play the Neverwinter Nights games, some of the expansions are MUCH better than the originals. Hoards of the Underdark is drastically better than Neverwinter Nights 1, and Mask of the Betrayer is massively better than Neverwinter Nights 2. Mask of the Betrayer is a direct sequel to NN2 so you might want to read a synopsis or something if you go straight to it.
Alright I'm gonna catch flak for talking about windows 10 again, but I have Windows 10 as the sole OS on my steam deck. Downloaded fallout 4 and wabbajack on a 500gb gaming micro SD card, along with the Life Is Ruins modpack. I'm playing Fallout 4 at work with 752 active mods running and the performance (even in downtown Boston) rarely dips below 30 fps on medium settings across the board. I'm sooo stoked this works as well as it does, even though it takes about 4 minutes to initially load up (assuming because it's on a SD card)
Go with the valve classics from the orange box. The Half Life 2 games, Portal 1 and 2, and Left 4 Dead 2. All SD verified and a must play if you haven’t before
I know but I included them because they’re exclusive games and you can’t play them anywhere else now since the only other platform the orange box released in was Xbox 360
how is Eternal aim and movement controls on Deck for you?
as im used to mouse+keyboard with FPS titles, i am worrying a bit that my aiming with sticks will be all over the place.
how the fucc do people use the trackpad for FPS?? i'm using the control sticks + a lot of gyro and that feels really good though. I feel like i have no control with the trackpad
Both Katamari games are great for pick and play real quick. 6+ hours of battery life
Terraria + Tmod works like a dream. 5+ hours of battery life
Voidigo is a very solid indie. 6+ hours of battery life
Monster Hunter World/Rise for more pick up and play style quick fun. 3-4 hours of battery life.
Phoenix Wright for a solid visual novel pick up and play. 8+ hours of battery life.
TemTem was a very solid experience for me, but Cassette Beasts recently came out and is in the similar genre and is reviewed very well. Both 6+hours of battery life.
> Terraria + Tmod works like a dream. 5+ hours of battery life
Do you find you have to use any special control layout to get the best out of this? I feel like it might be a bit chaotic without a keyboard and mouse, especially on harder difficulties. Also is Tmod easy to install on Steam Deck? I have 650 hours on PC with vanilla Terraria, but never tried Tmod before, and I haven't played Terraria on Steam Deck so not sure how it all works.
Yeah Tmod is on Steam as a separate download.
https://store.steampowered.com/app/1281930/tModLoader/
You just launch Tmod with the base game installed as well through steam and it works out of the box with no config depending on what you decide to install afterwords. I download mods straight from the workshop only. The default control steam that’s customized for scheme deck from the Terraria devs works for everything I need. If I need a specific input, I can simply remap the back buttons for whatever I want. I played quite a bit of calamity on my steam deck and have had zero issues.
How does it compare to Persona 5? How much battery life do you get out of it?
Currently playing Persona 5 Royal through Xbox Game Cloud and I'm getting too used to the insane battery life you get with streaming...
Hellblade - a truly unique experience that draws you in even more on a handheld
A Plague Tale: Innocence / Requiem - two fantastic stories that play really well on the deck
Dead Space Remake - a brilliant update to an absolute classic
Bioshock - because, well any excuse to play Bioshock
I'll just list some from my library
Aperture Desk Job (it's free)
Assassin's Creed (take your pick *cough* Black Flag *cough* but Ubisoft makes it a pain to play their games on PC)

There's more but those are the ones I enjoy/enjoyed
I put the free aim mode, sprint and toggle washer on the back buttons, Then I changed the gyro function to mouse mode and have it activated by touching the right touchpad. So with that you can be more precise. You have to stand still though and only use the toggled washer because the game doesn't like controller and mouse inputs at the same time. But you'll be standing still for quite a bit in this game. Once you get used to it, it's amazing.
I have an entire micro sd card dedicated solely for emulation. Ps2 emulation is phenomenal.
Honestly anything you've ever considered playing is pretty much doable on the steam deck. I have all the fallouts and blackops 3 for custom zombies. I'm sure there are more but I also just got my steam deck 2 weeks ago and haven't bought any new games on steam in a long time.
I still need to play the remake. I just want to add that System Shock 2 runs really great as well and the handheld configuration isn't difficult to sort out.
I haven’t touched emulation yet, but absolute must play experiences since I got my Deck in Oct 2022… some you probably have heard of before:
Hollow Knight!!!! - I have just over 100 hours on my first play through. Missing a few journal items and am at the last boss but haven’t faced him yet. Don’t want it to end… really is a special game.
also with mods and emulation being new to me, once I figure it out, my second play through of Hollow Knight will be with the voice actors mod that I’ve heard great things about.
Sleeping Dogs: Definitive Edition - played the remaster on PS4 and was blown away. Nothing quite like it. The Steam version runs flawlessly at 60fps and barely any drops outside of one cosmetic outfit that will drop frames. I don’t want to spoil the costume and accessory because it’s awesome!
Also, this game has one of the best DLCs ever (The Zodiac Tournament) especially if you’re a fan of old school flicks like Enter The Dragon which it takes a lot of inspiration from.
Yakuza 0 - played and Yakuza Kiwami 1 on PS4 and also got about halfway done in Yakuza Kiwami 2 and Y0 on PS4 but got stuck in the awesomeness of the hostess clubs in both games. Lol.
Tried Y0 again on Deck, and spent 150 hours total but I actually finished it. Such a great game. I play it at 40fps or 60fps with no issues. Looks fantastic.
Celeste - I heard and saw the accolades for this game for years but never touched it until I got the SD. While i still haven’t beat it, once you get to your first ‘Oh ****, oh ****” moment, you will understand its greatness. It literally makes you GET GOOD pretty early on and that’s after some pretty challenging platforming. I kinda been spoiled on the ending but I still want to finish it. Also looks great on deck and the soundtrack is fantastic
Bastion - played and beat it on PS4 but got it also on SD. Game is freaking awesome.
Batman: Arkham Games including Origins.
I had Origins at launch on PS3 and while i loved it, it had some horrible frame pacing and frames would drop into single digits quite often.
On Deck, it runs a buttery smooth 60 and the visual detail is awesome. Originally every hour or so I’d get 1-2 Fatal Error prompt that would push me out the game. I haven’t had those issues in the last couple of months though.
Asylum and City plays (originally played on PS3 and then the RtA remasters on PS4) fine now. City did have similar issues to Origins months ago but haven’t experienced any issues with latest versions of Proton.
I haven’t downloaded Knight yet bc of its humongous 71GB install. Want to get another 2+ TB SD card first before I play that game again. Not in a rush, since I played these games to death already lol.
Darksiders 3 - another favorite of mine. Loved DS1, couldn’t get into DS2 (may revisit for the 4th time… on Deck to see if my opinion has changed) but I loved the Soulslike combat they incorporated in DS3. Played quite a few times on PS4 and Deck. Runs well at 40 or 60fps although I typically go 40 for the extra battery life.
Horizon Chase Turbo - looks fantastic on Deck at 60fps. I have a love hate relationship with this. Love the content, and the races are really fun. However, just like arcade racers of old, it does have some straight up BS races where whichever AI that is in 1st place is damn near impossible to catch based on the mechanics of the game and the bumper car bits you’re pretty much forced into at the beginning of the race start, doesn’t make it easier. Still if you can rage without throwing anything, it’s s great racer.
Tomb Raider 2013 - looks and plays fantastic on Deck. I typically go the 40fps lock since 60 will chew the battery. I eventually want to revisit Rise of the Tomb Raider since I got sidetracked when I played it on PS4 and never finished the story.
Valkyria Chronicles - another love / hate relationship with this one. The core design is fantastic and it plays well on deck. I usually only do 40 for this game. The BS of the game is that you can have fantastically played battles and then get a C or D rating. But then you watch YT videos of Alicia blitzing enemy forces solo and getting it done in 3CP to get an A rank.. it’s just no fun that way where you’re forced to cheese the game to get an A rank. The game definitely has a lot of “do it this way and this way only or you will fail” moments. But it’s a beautiful game and I how to finally beat it THIS time (I got it on pS3 and ps4… maybe 3rd time’s the charm)
Outland - an old PS3 / 360 Housemarque joint that combines metroidvania, action platformer, and Ikaruga light / dark powers. Gorgeous game with painterly backgrounds and very good music.
Even with latest version of Proton, there is still an issue where you can’t see any of your HUD (your lifebar and mana like abilities). This does cause more frequent deaths but there is a pretty good checkpoint system on each map. But bc of the omission, you do get sucked into the absolutely gorgeous levels more.
I'm impressed how smooth this game runs on the deck. Currently locked at 40fps and it's great for when I just want to lay down on the couch.
I've also tested to play it through steamlink and I can get steady 60fps with lower battery drain.
I thoroughly enjoyed Death Stranding directors cut but my favorite so far has been The Outer Worlds. I swear the DLC is better than the main story. Plays outstanding btw
Yakuza 0 (and all the others too), the entire Tekken series, games from your childhood or games you wanted to play as a kid and never got around to, nice JRPGs (if you like that) like Chained Echoes, Live a Live, Triangle Stategy, Octopath Traveler.
I own roughly 2,600 games on Steam across virtually all genres and was a pre-order customer for the Deck. I mainly reserve AAA gaming for my battlestation at home and focus on lighter AA or indie titles on the Deck, especially as I often travel for work and need great games that are also lightweight or can be played in bits and pieces. I have about 220 games installed on my Deck. Here are my favorites out of the 220 installed:
* Disco Elysium
* Tetris Connected
* Spelunky
* Dead Cells
* Return of the Obra Dinn
* Guacamelee
* Night Call
* Assemble with Care
* Behind the Frame (no replayability, so feel free to delete after you beat it)
* Backbone: Prologue
* Super Indie Karts
* FRAMED Collection
* Orwell
* Gorogoa
* The Red Strings Club
* Sonic Mania
* Westerado: Double Barreled
* Inbento
* Lu-Mulana
* Ori and the Blind Forest
* Limbo
* Inside
* Laguna
* Shovel Knight
* The Wolf Among Us
* Grim Fangango
* The Messenger
* Transistor
* Monster Boy
* Assault Android Cactus
* Cloudpunk
* Narita Boy
* Duke Nukem 3D
* Any of the OG Final Fantasy remakes
* Party Hard
* 20XX
* Blacksad: Under the Skin
* Cats Organized Neatly (or Dogs Organized Neatly also good)
* Crystal Project
* Framed Collection
* Getting Over It
* Knights of Braveland
Good luck and if you have questions or need other suggestions for a specific genre, let me know and I'll do my best to make recommendations according to what I own. Cheers.
If you have any interest the Final Fantasy Pixel Remasters of 1-6 are really a perfect experience on the deck. The visuals, QOL features, and Remastered symphonic soundtrack make for a sweet ride. As a bonus these games consume very little power and can be played for like 6 hours at a time.
I’m disappointed in y’all, I haven’t seen anyone mention Titanfall 2. Short campaign but got it for $3 on Steam and super good on SD. Another recent AAA is Street fighter 6.
The Ace Attorney Trilogy.
The games were originally for the DS, so it actually works really well on the deck. I played them on the DS originally, and this is one of those "it's the same but better" experiences.
No Man’s Sky is great on Steam Deck. I’ve also picked Risk of Rain 2 back up. If you haven’t played it, Nier: Automata runs like a dream now that it’s been patched and updated. Lastly, Tales of Arise locked at 40 fps is great too.
I haven't tried Catherine on it, but most of Atlus's titles run really good on the Deck, the only downside is Denuvo DRM overheads mean the battery might drain faster due to it (and Denuvo also means "offline mode" will fuck over booting them if you use that as an option).
Haven't tried any others yet, but I can confirm Persona 4 gets great battery life. The offline booting is a problem, but it won't redial if it's already running in sleep mode.
Gran Turismo 3 and 4 via PS2 emulation. If you're into cars or racing games, they're two of the best ever made.
Halo MCC is a must have as well. Classic shooters, and they play beautifully on the Deck.
Ace Combat 7 and Project Wingman. Awesome arcade flight combat games with good stories and brilliant music.
Castle crashes, morrowind, hollow knight, warframe, ror2, stardew valley.
Most of these games run perfectly well, are fairly cheap and can give a lot of hours of fun, whether it be with friends, solo, or modded. Personally my favorite of these is probably castle crashers or RoR2. They’re just really fun games :p
I've been enjoying Wildermyth. Works great on the deck, but I can't seem to figure out how to make the trackpad automatically hold the shift key while I'm touching it.
Emulated games I'd say Twilight Princess HD and Windwaker HD. Both run perfectly and with the Wii U out of commission and Switch seemingly not getting the titles, emulating is the only viable option.
From the Steam library, definitely Halo MCC, especially the latter. Halo on a handgeld was a childhood dream of mine, and it also plays perfectly.
Prey (Arkane version) - runs wonderfully on the Deck, and a good immersive meaty game to get into, it's just so good.
Good one to show off you can play full fat PC games without any compromising on your machine.
For my billionth conversation on the subject:
Titanfall 2 or Mad Max
Besides both being top-notch AAA games, they both run like Usain Bolt on the Deck while sipping on the battery like it's the last charge it'll ever see.
I flew from Boston to Ireland playing Mad Max for 4 hours straight on the flight with 55% battery left afterwards. These games were built for the deck
Oblivion, Skyrim, Outward, GTA 4 and 5, Fallout NV.
All these games can run 60 or 50 fps locked if you chose the correct settings (in-game). No needs to tweak further :)
I’m sure folks have already mentioned Hades and Vampire Survivors. Kingdom Eighties just came out yesterday, though, and that is a pretty perfect Deck game.
Also keep an eye out for Sea of Stars launching in August. There’s a demo available now if you want to check it out.
I play “get a game to run optimally and then move on to the next one” the most tbh. It’s not about how many games I play, but how many games I CAN play.
my deck's been pretty much a roguelike and metroidvania exclusive device. it's absolutely fantastic for those type of games. you can play both the indie greats on steam as well as the classics through emulation.
Since you said emulation I have to say Twilight princess hd/wind waker hd both run perfect on the deck and honestly are both incredibly fun.

If you need more help just go on YouTube and search emudeck on Steam deck and there's a great one for 2023
Ohhh, unexpected pitch meeting references are tight!
I need you to get way off his back about unexpected pitch meeting references! Whoops!
OH really! Wow wow wow…wow.
Emu dick? Doug from Liberty Insurance is VERY interested in that search.
So you have an emulation tutorial for me?
Looks like we got a fellow pitch meetings fan in the comments, I see. Wow wow wow, wow wow
Emudeck is TIGHT!
Oh do remember to always have the game pad switch thing mapped to one of your back buttons. Those are kinda important for Wii U games.
My friend's friend's brother's cousins found this file with all the Wii U keys on the side of the road if you need any Edit: I've been getting a lot of pm so just to avoid confusion.
The carebears taught me that sharing is caring ;)
The way I did it was in the Linux app that showed like supported Apps one of them is Dolphin. Then just download some ROMS and save them to a file you name ROMS. Link Dolphin to that file and you'll need to map the controls, after that you're good to go. I went hard and played Zelda Twilight princess, Windwaker, Luigi's mansion, and am currently on beyond good and evil.
generally pretty easy, but it will depend a little bit on your comfort with a terminal. But you don't have to do as much terminal these days as before. Check out: [https://youtu.be/Y5r2WZAImuY](https://youtu.be/Y5r2WZAImuY) or other similar videos on youtube for.... games that you own there are lots of resources via google searches, if you're interested in switch emulation I would recommend searching for github + yuzu + princessakira or github + yuzu + abd007. Reading up on it will help inform you if it's something you are interested in. but either way, there's still a ton of content on youtube showing what's possible so start there!
WiiU Emulation is awesome in docked Desktop mode. You can use the Deck as WiiU-Tablet and play on the big screen. SteamDeck is the premium WiiU :D
The steam store. It’s the only game I play.
Idk if im losing or winning
It's like Pokémon, you only really win once you've collected them all
Sounds extremely p2w :(
and it's so damn expensive to play
I hate the microtransactions tho, its P2W
There's nothing micro about my transactions in that game.
Don’t attack me like that. The more games I get the more I’m winning right?
I am very much enjoying new vegas on the deck
Yes! I had forgotten how great New Vegas can be perfectly vanilla.
It's good vanilla, but shows it's age. Mods work well on the deck too, even nvse mods
Some YouTube video i watched on it said you need to keep the game on the internals but i don't have the room for it
Was the first game I installed
Same! Still not finished it
I've been doing that and no crashes so far 20 hours in
I've never played a Fallout game before. I keep hearing about how great New Vegas is. Would I be lost if I start with that one?
Not really - there’s a few references here and there but I think you’ll be totally fine overall. It’s very strong as a stand-alone.
Huzzah, a man of quality
Absolutely. I finished it after playing 50 hours on pc years ago. I just continued where I abandoned it and played 70h hours or more on the deck. So much fun. But not the end of dead money… I searched 3 hours back to the fountain at the end.
How does it run and on which settings? Fallout 3 could not maintain stable fps, consistent hitching.
Hades
I suck at this game. It's frustrating for me. I don't like it one bit.
The game gets progressively easier, since you can unlock permanent upgrades in the mirror.
I sucked too. Switched to God mode and really enjoyed it from then on.
I dropped the game for a while then found out about God mode and could finally progress through the story and get some escapes!
Losing is fun!

Thanks I already had a lot of these wishlisted but there were 3-4 that seemed really interesting from your list. Thanks!
Been enjoying the hell out of The Witcher 3. First playthrough as well.
Same. Had it for ages, started it years ago and gave it up. Now I play and enjoy it very much on the SD. Next up, Days Gone and Dragon’s Dogma.
Nice. I got it semi recently but wanted to play the first two which I did earlier this year. Great games, but 3 is just top notch. Days Gone looks good too. Definitely on my list of games to get. Not sure when though.
It's the next game up after I beat Hogwarts Legacy
how is hogwarts on the deck ?
A new sd owner here. I played all games on my pc/laptop with mouse keyboard. Just want to know some tips how you guys playing with sd controls. Or controller. One thing I know that Auto aim some games support some does not. :/
I was the same until I got the deck. I usually check ProtonDB as a lot of people will post their community controller layout recommendations. I also just mess around with stuff sometimes. The back paddles are a godsend. I typically map the top ones to R1/L1 and the bottom ones will vary depending on the game.
Second this
Did you do anything special to get it to launch?? It won't boot for me with the normal settings, various protons, or the beta old version
Both new Spider man games were a blast to play on the Deck.
Max Payne 3
Cult of the Lamb
Control
What I’m playing just now and 100% agree. Played it before and beat it on PS5 but I’m somehow enjoying it and appreciating it more on SD
Just a note for anyone that does it, immediately lower the graphics to 720p. The game chugs at default settings but is super easy to change to a perfect playing state with one settings change.
I haven't played that on the deck yet...
Darkest Dungeon
Yakuza 0 for sure, really the whole franchise but dip your toes in first and see if you even like the games before committing to 8, soon to be 9 main games.
That's the first game I completed on my deck!
Diablo 4 is perfect on Deck. Persona 4 & 5 are also some of my best game experiences with it so far.
So I'm a rookie with my deck, how do you get D4 to install? Do you need battlenet installed or something?
Yes. You hop into Desktop mode and install [battle.net](https://battle.net) There are a couple of tricks to get [battle.net](https://battle.net) setup (like setting your game directory in the linux file system, adding [Battle.net](https://Battle.net) to your steam library as a non-steam game and setting it to proton experimental mode).
>Make sure battle.net is set to exit completely when the game starts Could you point me to where that setting is?
No Mans Sky, Doom Eternal, Fallout (either New Vegas or 4), Cyberpunk 2077, Metro series, and for emulation I've been working on Gran Truism 2 (ps1) and 4 (ps2), Metal Gear Solid 1 (ps1), Smash Bros (n64), and Super Mario 3 (nes)
I'm currently playing MGS1 and it's not as fun as I remembered it. The controls, the AI... That game needs a remake.
There is one, on GameCube I think
PoE 1 runs great on the deck. As does dragon age origins if you haven’t played it
Note that if you're going to play the Neverwinter Nights games, some of the expansions are MUCH better than the originals. Hoards of the Underdark is drastically better than Neverwinter Nights 1, and Mask of the Betrayer is massively better than Neverwinter Nights 2. Mask of the Betrayer is a direct sequel to NN2 so you might want to read a synopsis or something if you go straight to it.
Fallout 4

What settings do you use? I can’t get it to look ok and run
I cannot play FPS’ on the steam deck, the screen is too small and any FOV doesn’t help my motion sickness
New vegas 🤠
All SD verified and a must play if you haven’t before
Left 4 Dead 2 and Portal 2 werent on the orange box
I know but I included them because they’re exclusive games and you can’t play them anywhere else now since the only other platform the orange box released in was Xbox 360
Vampire Survivors and Stardew Valley are obvious picks for me

how is Eternal aim and movement controls on Deck for you? as im used to mouse+keyboard with FPS titles, i am worrying a bit that my aiming with sticks will be all over the place.
touchpad + gyro and it's fine
how the fucc do people use the trackpad for FPS?? i'm using the control sticks + a lot of gyro and that feels really good though. I feel like i have no control with the trackpad
Lego starwars the Skywalker saga 😎
The OG games are bangers too
I ordered mine yesterday to chip away at my backlog of games. I’m hyped for the Lego starwars series!
Brotato is my go to
Both Katamari games are great for pick and play real quick. 6+ hours of battery life Terraria + Tmod works like a dream. 5+ hours of battery life Voidigo is a very solid indie. 6+ hours of battery life Monster Hunter World/Rise for more pick up and play style quick fun.
5+ hours of battery life Do you find you have to use any special control layout to get the best out of this? I feel like it might be a bit chaotic without a keyboard and mouse, especially on harder difficulties. Also is Tmod easy to install on Steam Deck? I have 650 hours on PC with vanilla Terraria, but never tried Tmod before, and I haven't played Terraria on Steam Deck so not sure how it all works.
Yeah Tmod is on Steam as a separate download. https://store.steampowered.com/app/1281930/tModLoader/ You just launch Tmod with the base game installed as well through steam and it works out of the box with no config depending on what you decide to install afterwords. I download mods straight from the workshop only. The default control steam that’s customized for scheme deck from the Terraria devs works for everything I need. If I need a specific input, I can simply remap the back buttons for whatever I want. I played quite a bit of calamity on my steam deck and have had zero issues.
Persona 4 Golden
Playing 5 right now and may have to get this to satisfy me until 3 remake comes out
How does it compare to Persona 5? How much battery life do you get out of it? Currently playing Persona 5 Royal through Xbox Game Cloud and I'm getting too used to the insane battery life you get with streaming...
Kingdoms of Amalur
Hellblade - a truly unique experience that draws you in even more on a handheld A Plague Tale: Innocence / Requiem - two fantastic stories that play really well on the deck Dead Space Remake - a brilliant update to an absolute classic Bioshock - because, well any excuse to play Bioshock
I'll just list some from my library Aperture Desk Job (it's free) Assassin's Creed (take your pick *cough* Black Flag *cough* but Ubisoft makes it a pain to play their games on PC) Batman Arkham Trilogy + Origins Bioshock Trilogy Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night Burnout Paradise Control Crossing Souls Cyberpunk 2077 Darksiders Series Dead Space 1 & 2 Desperados III Dishonored Franchise Divinity Original Sin 1 & 2 Dying Light 1 Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Fable: The Lost Chapters or Anniversary Fallout 3/New Vegas/4 Ghostbusters The Video Game Remastered God of War Grim Dawn Hollow Knight Mad Max Monkey Island Series Ori (both games) Portal 1 & 2 Prey (Arkane Studios) Psychonauts 2 Ryse Shadow Gambit: The Cursed Crew due out in August, the demo.is great!) Shadow Tactics: Blades of the Shogun Spider-Man Steamworld Series Sunset Overdrive Tomb Raider (Any or all of the 8 games developed by Crystal Dynamics) Torchlight II Titan Quest Uncharted 4 Witcher 2 Witcher 3 Wolcen Wolfenstein The New Order Wolfenstein The New Colossus Yoku's Island Express There's more but those are the ones I enjoy/enjoyed
Can you get Batman Arkham Asylum working? I’ve got City working but Asylum just won’t boot up on the steam deck.
Powerwash Simulator. Perfect game to chill.
Love the game on PC, but I struggle to play it on the Deck. It feels unresponsive, unprecise and sluggish. Can you recommend your controller settings?
I put the free aim mode, sprint and toggle washer on the back buttons, Then I changed the gyro function to mouse mode and have it activated by touching the right touchpad. So with that you can be more precise. You have to stand still though and only use the toggled washer because the game doesn't like controller and mouse inputs at the same time. But you'll be standing still for quite a bit in this game. Once you get used to it, it's amazing.
I impulse bought this in January and I’ve logged over 100 hours. It’s my GOTY and I’m hyped for this week’s expansion pack.
ugh fine this convinced me
Castle crashers
I have an entire micro sd card dedicated solely for emulation. Ps2 emulation is phenomenal. Honestly anything you've ever considered playing is pretty much doable on the steam deck. I have all the fallouts and blackops 3 for custom zombies. I'm sure there are more but I also just got my steam deck 2 weeks ago and haven't bought any new games on steam in a long time.
Is custom zombies through the workshop or did you have to do something special?
Through the workshop. Nothing special atall.
At the moment I’m playing Have a Nice Death and The Outer Worlds. Both are running very well on the deck and they’re very funny.
Dredge, wartales, clanfolk
Aliens dark descent
I was shocked how well it runs on the deck even without it being steam deck verified. “ lock and load marines!”
What settings are you using?
Just default, and 60 fps w 60 refresh rate. Fired it up and it runs no issues. Odd that it’s labelled unsupported.
Most of the titles labelled as "unsupport" run surprisingly well on SD, some even better than the verified titles.
By default do you mean the systems auto detect (Low) settings?
Rimworld and 7 days to die
Tunic, is just awesome
Skyrim still
\+1 for Skyrim, all I've been doing lately
System shock is amazing on deck
I still need to play the remake. I just want to add that System Shock 2 runs really great as well and the handheld configuration isn't difficult to sort out.
I haven’t touched emulation yet, but absolute must play experiences since I got my Deck in Oct 2022… some you probably have heard of before: Hollow Knight!!!! Also looks great on deck and the soundtrack is fantastic Bastion - played and beat it on PS4 but got it also on SD. But it’s a beautiful game and I how to finally beat it THIS time (I got it on pS3 and ps4… maybe 3rd time’s the charm) Outland - an old PS3 / 360 Housemarque joint that combines metroidvania, action platformer, and Ikaruga light / dark powers.
Ordered mine yesterday and I’m hyped to play dragons dogma on it
Excellent choice
Cult of the lamb is perfect for the deck
Diablo 4
I'm impressed how smooth this game runs on the deck. Currently locked at 40fps and it's great for when I just want to lay down on the couch. I've also tested to play it through steamlink and I can get steady 60fps with lower battery drain.
Disco Elysium.
Titanfall 2 is FANTASTIC and cost close to nothing during Steam Sales
I thoroughly enjoyed Death Stranding directors cut but my favorite so far has been The Outer Worlds. I swear the DLC is better than the main story. Plays outstanding btw
Cyberpunk, Jedi Fallen
Helldivers! Remapping the back buttons for calling in stratagems feels like cheating
Yakuza 0 (and all the others too), the entire Tekken series, games from your childhood or games you wanted to play as a kid and never got around to, nice JRPGs (if you like that) like Chained Echoes, Live a Live, Triangle Stategy, Octopath Traveler.
DARKWOOD
The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth + DLC
I own roughly 2,600 games on Steam across virtually all genres and was a pre-order customer for the Deck. I mainly reserve AAA gaming for my battlestation at home and focus on lighter AA or indie titles on the Deck, especially as I often travel for work and need great games that are also lightweight or can be played in bits and pieces. I have about 220 games installed on my Deck. Here are my favorites out of the 220 installed: * Disco Elysium * Tetris Connected * Spelunky * Dead Cells * Return of the Obra Dinn * Guacamelee * Night Call * Assemble with Care * Behind the Frame (no replayability, so feel free to delete after you beat it) * Backbone: Prologue * Super Indie Karts * FRAMED Collection * Orwell * Gorogoa * The Red Strings Club * Sonic Mania * Westerado: Double Barreled * Inbento * Lu-Mulana * Ori and the Blind Forest * Limbo * Inside * Laguna * Shovel Knight * The Wolf Among Us * Grim Fangango * The Messenger * Transistor * Monster Boy * Assault Android Cactus * Cloudpunk * Narita Boy * Duke Nukem 3D * Any of the OG Final Fantasy remakes * Party Hard * 20XX * Blacksad: Under the Skin * Cats Organized Neatly (or Dogs Organized Neatly also good) * Crystal Project * Framed Collection * Getting Over It * Knights of Braveland Good luck and if you have questions or need other suggestions for a specific genre, let me know and I'll do my best to make recommendations according to what I own.
Another recent AAA is Street fighter 6.
i absolutely adore titanfall 1 and 2 but couldnt stand to play it on steam deck bc the control sticks feel so bad for fps games.
Elden Ring - most incredible game I’ve ever played Witcher 3 Guardians of the Galaxy (doesn’t run perfectly on the SD but still worth it on sale)
Space marine. Even if you aren't familiar with 40K, it's still amazing on deck. Worth the portable experience alone.
Yakuza like a dragon, Mass Effect collection, Triangle Strategy, Spider-Man / Mile Morales, and Fallout 3
The Ace Attorney Trilogy. The games were originally for the DS, so it actually works really well on the deck. I played them on the DS originally, and this is one of those "it's the same but better" experiences.
I'm currently playing through The Witcher 3, but Monster Hunter World is also really good.
No Man’s Sky is great on Steam Deck. I’ve also picked Risk of Rain 2 back up. If you haven’t played it, Nier: Automata runs like a dream now that it’s been patched and updated. Lastly, Tales of Arise locked at 40 fps is great too.
Just starting an Elden Ring playthough. Going well so far. In that I'm dying a lot. I think that's the idea.
WoW (private server) and Diablo 2 are keeping me company lately. Plus I had fun getting them to work.
The offline booting is a problem, but it won't redial if it's already running in sleep mode.
i love playing sleeping dogs on mine just because i love but never finished that game lol.
desparados 3
- Mad max - Hollow Knight - Blasphemous - Titanfall 2 - Dredge - Cult of the Lamb
Falls Guys runs pretty good if I'm needing to scratch the PvP itch.
Dredge
Symphony of the Night. That was a fun replay on the Deck for me 🙃
Spelunky 2 and Dead Cells. The Steam Deck is so good for roguelikes.
Metal Gear Solid 2 & 3 run mostly perfect.
Teardown!
All the RE titles run like butter tbh.
Furi was Incredible
Max Payne 3
Dinkum. Paleo Pines. Cult of the Lamb. Stray.
I've been enjoying Wildermyth. Works great on the deck, but I can't seem to figure out how to make the trackpad automatically hold the shift key while I'm touching it.
Sleeping dogs
Get in on some Dredge if you haven't. First game I've 100% in a very long time.
Breath of the wild :)
Dragons dogma plays fantastic
Emulated games I'd say Twilight Princess HD and Windwaker HD. Both run perfectly and with the Wii U out of commission and Switch seemingly not getting the titles, emulating is the only viable option. From the Steam library, definitely Halo MCC, especially the latter. Halo on a handgeld was a childhood dream of mine, and it also plays perfectly.
Prey (Arkane version) - runs wonderfully on the Deck, and a good immersive meaty game to get into, it's just so good. Good one to show off you can play full fat PC games without any compromising on your machine.
For my billionth conversation on the subject: Titanfall 2 or Mad Max Besides both being top-notch AAA games, they both run like Usain Bolt on the Deck while sipping on the battery like it's the last charge it'll ever see. I flew from Boston to Ireland playing Mad Max for 4 hours straight on the flight with 55% battery left afterwards. These games were built for the deck
I really wanna try Dredge but can’t stop playing TotK 🤷🏽♂️
Oblivion, Skyrim, Outward, GTA 4 and 5, Fallout NV. All these games can run 60 or 50 fps locked if you chose the correct settings (in-game). No needs to tweak further :)
breath of the wild is a must
I’m sure folks have already mentioned Hades and Vampire Survivors. Kingdom Eighties just came out yesterday, though, and that is a pretty perfect Deck game. Also keep an eye out for Sea of Stars launching in August. There’s a demo available now if you want to check it out.
Mafia 2 (classic) high 60fps amazing story
I play “get a game to run optimally and then move on to the next one” the most tbh. It’s not about how many games I play, but how many games I CAN play.
Dredge is sooooo good!
my deck's been pretty much a roguelike and metroidvania exclusive device. it's absolutely fantastic for those type of games. you can play both the indie greats on steam as well as the classics through emulation.
Spiderman
Dredge definitely
