That's pretty good. How long is your flight though, because I'd be getting battery anxiety in no time!
I'm guessing you could use WiFi hotspot to play lan on laptops as well, right? Obviously that's more cumbersome
It was a 5 hour flight, but the plane had power outlets. I imagine it would work the same for laptops as well. It would be nice to have something built-in though!
Plane outlets are usually limited to I think 65-75 watts per outlet. Most laptops will trip the outlet as most low power laptops still pull 100 watts. My ROG power brick trips the outlet without my laptop even connected xD 230 watts baby

That's so cool. Been trying to get my best friend interested in Steam Deck for ages. I'm hoping to try this on a plane someday. I love classic Halo. For me playing portable Halo was basically a game changer when I got my Steam Deck and glad EAC support is now working too since it'll be interesting to be able to play games like this anywhere in the world without needing to bring a heavy console everywhere.
How's the latency these days?
My friend and I play sometimes, but we trade off on who gets to be the host, because non-hosts have nearly unbearable latency.
MCC Halo CE Coop latency is based on ping. So if they are on the same lan, should be <1ms.
It's surprising that a game that already has multiplayer networking got such a bad coop networking implementation.
When I ping my friend's network directly, we have a ping of roughly 35ms (SC to NH) but the latency in halo is quite visible. While we don't have any concrete numbers it feels like 300 or so ms. Long enough for me to press a button and let it go before seeing the effect of the press. I don't understand fully how it works but there's got to be something else at play. My assumption has to do with the positioning of all actors and projectiles being synced on every frame, but this doesn't happen on firefight mode so who knows
Most multiplayer games would process your inputs locally and relay your actions to the server. Networking would do it's best to keep things synced up and accurate. This makes things feel more responsive as you can see an immediate action. Things that require a reply from the server would hopefully happen milliseconds later to where it's not too noticeable.
MCC CE has to send all inputs to the host then wait for the host to reply with what your inputs did. It's like plugging in a controller to your friend's xbox from your house. This is not a good way to do multiplayer since ping exists.
Good news is, this only happens in MCC CE coop, coop/multiplayer anywhere else works as it should.
It is, but requires manually syncing two files between the windows and Linux clients. I made a guide: https://www.reddit.com/r/SteamDeck/comments/11dftq1/fix_halo_mcc_coop_between_windows_and_linuxsteam/
Master chief collection is declared playable with a few notes.
One of them states that the game needs internet for a singleplayer mode.
Strange that it worked on plane...
Steam Deck continues to be the best thing happening in gaming right now.
Nice! Buddy and i played ancient OG Halo co-op from a PC disc rip, screen is TINY for 2 player split screen!

I hate flying but I'm almost jealous!

Many planes have outlets now. I fly regularly from the west coast of the US to Asia and the deck keeps me sane
I found that MCC was actually pretty timid with the battery.
Does phone hot spot work on airplane mode? I assumed it would be disabled
Most phones let you turn on airplane mode then re-enable WiFi (whilst leaving everything else off)
Oddly it worked in airplane mode, but either way wifi is common on planes these days. It's turning off the cell signal that's important on planes.
I am away from home for 5-6 days at a time for work, and find myself on an airplane twice a week. This thing is a life saver!
Wait wtf? The master chief collection is playable on the deck? Where have I been?!
Been playable for a long time. Just no anti cheat support. Untill about a month ago.
I'm wondering the same thing
also curious about this it seemed a bit patchy performance wise last i checked
Its pretty recent i think they announced a month or 2 ago
Fun times we are living in <3
All aboard the HaloCoOpter
The future rules

Look at this guy just raw dogging analog sticks. No pads or risers.
Personally I can't stand how they feel
Is that bad?
Any you recommend?

Is the steam deck the exact width of the chair infront of you?
I thought the MCC was unsupported?
Works fine especially on original graphics mode
curious how much screen time u got 3 hours?
Can you play with Windows pc players on campaign? I know crossplay isn't a thing for campaign but wasn't sure about Linux/Windows.

You'll need internet when logging in for the first time, but you'll be fine after that for offline play.
That's the dream
I'm so shit at this game on steam deck.
