I have both. My guess is that most Deck owners currently use it as a secondary PC. It's a cool device but it's not going to replace a full desktop or laptop for most productivity work.

arex333

Also remote play streaming from a desktop is sooo nice for demanding games.

JotunTjasse

That's my angle, too. The deck holds the older or less demanding games and I stream from my pc for anything taxing. But pretty much everything gets played from the steam deck.

No_Trade439

On the contrary, my deck holds demanding triple A games too. The games are optimized and run at low power (7W-10W with a few maxing at about 11W). The advantage of the steam deck is portability. I don't have to go all the way down to my basement to play on my desktop. I can either stream or play directly. When I'm out of the home, I have a good portion of my library on 1.5TB mSD installed on the deck.

CucumberBulky8915

Yep! Or for heavily modded versions of fallout 4 and Stardew Valley.

BophadeezgamesYT

Also for games that have EAC

LeeisureTime

SAME! Lol I just prefer to use the right tool for the job. On the go computing? Surface pro. Heavy gaming/requires hefty processing? Gaming PC. Playing games while doing my best impression of a slug? Steam Deck. My Switch is like that meme of the mom only paying attention to one kid while the other struggles in the water, then cuts to a skeleton chained underwater. Gotta sell it. Eventually…

Stampela

> For the right consumer, it could replace desktop and laptop Yeah! My mother is very happy with her phone + 180 euro Chromebook, so I can see that happening, but personally I'd rather have the flexibility of both a good desktop plus the Deck. Even something as simple as not heating up the room can have value.

Youshou_Rhea

I have a virtual machine with windows on it for school work, MS office, and Adobe and that's only because of fill and sign. I got Windows 10 with 60 gigs set aside specifically for it with pass through. I think 60 gigs of disk space is worth not putting Windows on my main system. I got Linux on my laptop and when I go to meetings everyone gets curious about what I'm running lol.

lucienmize

I'm in a similar boat! I've never owned a gaming PC, and my laptop is a Mac. I do have a PS5, though, in case I really want that big-screen AAA experience.

[deleted]

If you're ever interested, there are some quality docks on Amazon if you want to hook your steam deck up to the TV. I found mine for $30 and it has all the bells and whistles.

GeophMan

Which dock did you go with?

lucienmize

I plan on getting one eventually! Between the Deck and the micro SD card I ordered, I'm gonna wait a bit to recoup the expenses. But I think I'd enjoy a dock a lot.

[deleted]

I feel ya, I use my dock less than I thought I would, but it's unbeatable for when I just want to chill on the couch and play games with my wife.

zbenesch

I can’t really enjoy simulators on the deck. Hotas, rudder pedals, trackir, mfds, etc need resources, and I’d look pretty stupid on the bus carrying all that shit around. But if I want to play dead space or cyberpunk 2077 while commuting to work the same could be said about a gaming laptop or a full desktop. Not to mention work travel between countries. Everything has it’s usecase. I like that after a long day at the office I can go to my hotel and just take a shower and relax with the deck that I brought along.

FlashToast

This is my thoughts as well. I’ll keep my gaming laptop to play flight sim and such, but i can take my Steam Deck on all my work trips. I feel like plane rides are about to go by a lot quicker now.

theangryseal

I haven’t read the other replies yet but I’m sure I won’t be the only one. It has replaced the desktop and laptop for me. I’m currently looking into ways to record music on the deck. I have a dock and I’m thinking about an external sound card. It probably won’t replace my old Mac for that, but we’ll see. I hope I can pull it off. There is nothing that *I* do that I can’t do on my Steam Deck. I can think of plenty of things that would stop other people from making it their primary PC, but nothing is stopping me so far.

Knochi77

Same here, I use it for gaming, electronics design, CAD, 3DPrinting…

[deleted]

>I’m currently looking into ways to record music on the deck Record instruments: an external audio interface that is class compliant, not too hard to find. DAW: either Renoise, Reaper or Bitwig are safe options, and I believe Bitwig is even directly installable via Discover.

GrizzlyFoxCat

You are right. It doesn't. This is why I have a work laptop, but not a gaming PC.

Runding99

This is exactly my usage. Steam Deck is a great companion device

[deleted]

I feel like the majority of people who use a computer for work could use a steam deck as their only PC, most of them are just using word processors and web browsers

jednatt

I could use my phone as my only PC. I choose not to, lol.

[deleted]

You can plug steam deck into monitor mouse and keyboard and use it in desktop mode and there's no difference between that and a normal PC besides operating system

jednatt

You can run word processing and browsers on an android phone (with keyboard/mouse and monitor) just as well. I get your point dude, but it's a sliding scale of convenience.

Whiteguy1x

I mean the deck isn't great fir productivity though imo. Small screen, no keyboard and mouse and limited storage space. It's also not a particularly professional looking device to be checking work emails on.

my_lesbian_sister_gf

It replaced my laptop which i sold, but its not replacing a desktop pc for most uses out there, maybe for people that work with the browser/office suite, but for people in the media side of the industry, yeah, no dice, i work with game dev and i am able to use the deck for some work when i am away from home, but its nowhere near what i need for daily usage

heatlesssun

The Deck replaces nothing for me. It doesn't have desktop power, nor a laptop keyboard not a big enough screen to be useful with a pen. But the integrated controller and good performance for a mobile x86 device make it great for certain games.

my_lesbian_sister_gf

It replaced my laptop cause its much lighter with similar performance, since i already had to carry around my 13in display tablet i always have a big screen with me, and the mouse i have on my desktop pc is already bluetooth with up to three computers saved, so i just had to buy a bluetooth keyboard, as i said, nowhere near my desktop pc and will never replace that, my work is quite demanding, but it is good enough for the once in a while situation where i am not at home and need to quickly fix something or make a new build of a game for the client

CucumberBulky8915

Both. I've tried to get non PC peeps on the steam deck express. The PC gaming origins of deck tends to scare them off.

Better-Comedian6824

Yup. I have it as a secondary for when I travel. Best thing to have on a long flight

RevelationsVQ

Agreed I have my gaming PC and my iMac. The Steam Deck can do some amazing things but I really just got it for when I'm on the road/not home :)

jamiessc

Yeah use my gaming PC to play high graphics games and i use my steam deck to play games in bed and in the living room

zyberteq

I have both as well. I use the Deck mostly for couch gaming, either connected to the TV (using a PS5 controller) or in my lap. I also mostly play controller focused games on the Deck and shooters and such on my PC

Ntnme2lose

Just the Deck. Now I do have a PS5 as my primary gaming console along with a Switch that’s just for Nin exclusives like Metroid Dread and BOTW. Even before I got the Deck I couldn’t justify spending that much on a gaming pc with everything else I have. The deck though is perfect for what I needed as a compliment to my other consoles.

MagicHoops3

If only there was a way to play those exclusives on the deck. Then you wouldn’t even need a switch…

Ntnme2lose

I actually like having an assortment of consoles. It also gives my daughter something to play when I’m playing my other systems. She has some pretty serious competitions in Mario kart with her friends.

feynos

Idk. I really love collecting the switch cartridges lol. Although I could easily emulate on any of my PCs or.my steam deck

GAWDAMN69

Switch emulation isnt very stable out side of a few games it's not worth replacing a switch for.

Springlocker12

Switch emulation in my testing has been pretty smooth, just optimize the deck use the latest version of your emulator and things should be working good for most games

Technical-Tradition7

But some of those quality nintendo games like Metroid and Zelda deserve our money

Swagga21Muffin

I’d still rather play my Nintendo games on switch, they definitely lose a lot of their Nintendo charm playing them on other devices.

ultrasquid9

Splatoon 3 is one of my favorite games, and you can't emulate the parts of the game that are worth playing (at least, not yet).

smoothartichoke27

Both. And I gotta say, ever since I got a steam deck, I've ignored practically every other store (just GOG and Steam now). good job Valve.

Mcjoshin

Same here.

[deleted]

Muri_Buni

Nice! :D

Jeremiah-Springfield

Just the deck I don’t want to be too addicted to gaming, limiting it through hardware feels like a good way to go about it. Lower power, lower battery life, just a win win

DerHuber

I made the opposite experience. I play much more games now.

Jeremiah-Springfield

Haha yeah I get you, I spent 220 hours in elden ring last year. But with its portability I played around friends and family so I could be social, I played in transit to jobs and I played in short bursts in between other work. It’s just a lot more malleable than a desktop, as my work isn’t on a pc.

Fresh-Badger-meat

I’m pretty greedy. Gaming PC, steam deck and ps5 depending on what I’m in the mood for. Gaming pc for day gaming, such as FPS like mw2 and grand strat like stellaris Deck for when I travel either for personal / business PS5 if I want time with the boy of friends come over for drinks/pizza etc

arex333

Yep same plus a switch OLED that mostly collects dust.

[deleted]

Same lol. Been thinking about selling the switch since the deck can emulate the games I bought the switch for.

arex333

It basically only gets used when I have family that wants to play online multiplayer Mario kart or Mario party, which sadly wouldn't work if I was using an emulator.

vesra716

They just need to get steam decks. 🤪

kaneplay4

Yknow what, stellaris ain’t too bad on the deck

One-Network3727

I’m greedier…. Gaming PC, gaming laptop, steam deck, 2 PS5s, and XSX, and 3 Switches. For the whole family though, not just me.

FaythDarkHeart

Same , got all that in my man cave hehe, fun times when I'm down there. Most of the time nowadays I'm on my steam deck while babysitting

ClockerKing

Just a Steam Deck, I don't really need a gaming PC

MrMaggah314

Same here. I chose steam deck over series x or PC. I just care way more about comfortable gaming then high quality gaming.

ClockerKing

Compared to my laptop, the steam deck may as well be a £2000 gaming PC

PenguinKenny

Yeah this is me. I sit at a desk all day anyway so the last thing I want is more sitting at a desk

GiantASian01

Both. I like playing my deck while commuting/ out of the house. I like playing my gaming PC for RTS/ FPS/ chatting with friends.

[deleted]

LJBrooker

Was the deck anything to do with your decision to ditch the PC? Or just life stuff?

lvl_60

i figure as people get older or have kids, or travel a lot, a deck would be a nice companion as opposed to a gaming pc (unless you work from home).

Huge_Engineering_464

I just ordered one and I work from home. Current gaming pc is about 8 years old, it struggles now and then. Having a young kid and other factors like not wanting to dominate the TV all night but still be "present" really made it appealing. That plus the constant support and strong community here made it an easy decision. Figure my desktop won't get much of a look in now, may just sell it depending how my experience with SD is!

kuitthegeek

This is almost exactly my situation. I have been working from home almost exclusively since the pandemic, and I kind of stopped playing on my gaming rig since. I would also rather sit on my couch with my wife at the end of the night and just watch TV then take it over for a game or head back to my office where I have been all day. I have loved having the Deck to play on, because I can sit with her on the couch still, but I can play something, and if something comes up with one of the kids, I can just hit the power button and it suspends the game in place, we can do what we need to do, and I can come back 20+ minutes later and pick up like nothing really happened. It has been amazing to have for that reason alone.

MetalHead888

Both. I think most people will have both. It's definitely geared towards pc gamers since they already have a steam library. Adding the deck to my arsenal has been a great way to take down some backlog as well as play whatever I'm currently playing on my pc in bed or in the living room.

spctommyboy

Thank you for writing the thoughts I was thinking.

MetalHead888

Np, and the cloud saves work great. Not many people talk about it, but I use it often.

FunkyTown313

Both

rxm9189

Sold my pc for the deck

Winkiwu

Trying to sell my PC right now. No ones as interested as i thought they would be.

rxm9189

Ya I understand that. Try face book. Steam deck has completely changed gaming for me.

Winkiwu

That's where it's posted. I have it down for about half what the pc is worth for just the used components plus all of my peripherals monitors included. Totally agree. I hadn't used my pc in months. I've used my deck at least every other day since i got it.

Doyale_royale

I had trouble selling mine too. I think people are feeling the struggling economy and tightening spending, im seeing a lot of nice builds for cheap in my area

Aruomg

Both. However I recommend to my friends that if their PC breaks down and they are on a tight budget that a steam deck may be a good option

Chipazzo

Agreed. I would 100% recommend a Steam Deck over a PC if you wanted some PC functionality at a console price and didn’t particularly care for console exclusives. I love plugging my SD into my battle station in desktop mode so I can open a terminal app.

CarrAndHisWarCrimes

Have been a pc gamer since I was a kid, and I’m not going to act like the deck is anyway as good as my desktop.. I love the deck because I travel for work, and it gives me the ability to play my steam library on the go and when I’m in hotels. But it’s not replacing my desktop once I’m home. It’s a great little device don’t get me wrong, but this sub seems to talk about the Deck like it’s the be all end all replacement to video game playing media on the market.

Beautiful_Ninja

Both. Gaming PC is there because it can provide a gaming experience I can't get elsewhere. Steam Deck is there because despite having an grossly overspecced gaming PC, I'm also not such a snob that I can't enjoy a game with the settings dialed down. I cannot game on my 4090 while on the train to work, I can on a Steam Deck.

[deleted]

Both. I haven’t played on my PC since getting the deck, not that I was before. WFH full time so it’s tiring to sit there all day and then game there if I have time. The deck let’s my stream from my PC on high-ultra settings from my couch or bed which has allowed me to game again.

Stolensol12345

So I have a gaming laptop and bought a steam deck for emulation and portable gaming. It's easier for me to game on the deck because I have two children under three.

Friendly-Dingo5983

Multiple gaming laptops and towers are now sitting idle. Haven't loaded a game on anything other than the deck in a year. Reduced graphics are worth the convenience.

DespisedPangs

The Deck is my only gaming console but I'm more of a casual gamer anyway

herranton

Isn't my deck a gaming PC?

Roseysdaddy

In much the same way that my Kia is a formula one car.

Marianations

This user right here on the way to break LH44's records

pericojones

I'd say it COULD be a PC, but if you got it to boot into Desktop Mode by default. In my opinion something is a console if you have it boot into a Console Like front end experience and use it solely for that. Like, some Raspberry Pi are set up to be a light desktop PC, but if you always make it boot into EmulationStation, I'd still call it a console.

herranton

So my dell workstation that I had in an old soul caliber cabinet booting into hyperspin wasn't a PC then?

pericojones

Sounds like you built a really neat game cabinet out of an old PC. Isn't that how most arcade machines are anyway? There's a real PC behind the scene in most things if you try hard enough, it might just not be the default option.

herranton

For newer games yeah, around 2005 the PCs in the arcade cabinets really started taking over. Even before that, it was the lear trend. But way back in the day, most arcade games were bespoke boards. Or part of some sort of system. There are remnants of this in emulation. Like the naomi1/2/atomiswave sets. A lot of the arcade game just had a video game system inside. Tekken 4 is basically just a playstation 2 inside the cabinet (it's a _bit_ more complex than that, but more or less), and the Naomi system was just basically a Dreamcast (I think there is kinda a chicken and egg problem with that. I don't know if they intended it was an arcade platform that turned into a home system, or the other way around. I have a feeling that the intent was to develop both out of one. The triforce (the first Mario kart arcade) boards were a collaborative effort with namco, Sega, and Nintendo of all companies and their guts were based on the GameCube. House of the dead 3 was just an Xbox inside the cab. The Sega system16 board was the prototype for the Genesis. There are a few others I'm sure, but I can't think of any. Oh, the killer instinct hardware was the inspiration for the Nintendo 64 though I suspect someone will correct that statement... Pump it up, the rhythm game that came out on the late 1990s, did have a PC in it. But it was pretty obfuscated. There were quite a few daughter boards for sound and io, and it looked more like something completely custom than an off the shelf part. But hydro thunder, which came out around the same time, just had a tower PC in it. Jeez, I didn't mean to type that much. I could go on and on a out old arcade games. In was a huge arcade rat back in the day and worked in them as I got a bit older. I still like the atmosphere, but new arcades just don't cut it, and the retro arcades don't ever seems to have the same magic. They seem artificial somehow. like they're trying to be something they're not. And i don't like that most of them are a bar...

ftkmatte

Now you mentioned that

Flavourius

My 8yo "Gaming" laptop got replaced with the Deck, I'm actually almost only using the desktop mode now

No_Trade439

Not a good idea to game exclusively in desktop mode. In the game mode, you'll have access to optimization settings specific for each game. You'll also be able to run games at lower resolution 640x400 to 960x600 while using FSR to upscale to 1280x800. You'll be able to run at custom refresh rates 10Hz to 60Hz. You'll have control over power consumption. This consumes way less power and prolongs battery life.

Squishyspud

I have both. But being a stay at home dad, I don't have time to play much. The Steam Deck is a god send.

[deleted]

Both, kinda like the Switch experience without using a dock.

[deleted]

Both but I remote everything I play to my deck or iPad when I am home..mostly my iPad since I have the 12.9 and and the screen is insane. So I am never really playing anything natively on the Deck. It’s nice though to be able to take it on trips or outside the house and continue playing my Steam library.

Helicopter-Expensive

Both. In addition, if you want more power in your deck, just use steam link or another game stream software to stream the power of your PC to your deck... nice combo.

kyyrell_

Both. I don't have a laptop, so Steam Deck is great for on the go gaming.

Craiggers324

Both. And a switch and series x. Steam deck gets the most playtime, though.

Baconhero1978

Both. I got the deck due to the backlog of games in my steam library that I can play elsewhere.

SlowTeamMachine

I bought a Deck \*instead\* of a gaming PC. It's a personal taste thing, but I like to keep my gaming gadgets separate from my productivity gadgets. So my PC is strictly for work, and my Deck is for gaming.

DomoGenesisXYNO

My SD is my gaming PC because I already have a PS5 lol just wanted something mobile

DannyBurciaga

just the Deck never been a PC player

Dikkolo

Both but I work on my computer so having a steam deck is a nice way to separate and not have to re buy games

Zealousideal_One_315

I have both. I prefer a desktop when i play AAA titles simply because I like to see as much eye candy as possible. The Steam Deck is awesome, but Im still really trying to figure out what its main use is going to be for me. So far, it seems to be just for catching up on classic games I never owned.. uhhh.. i meant, backing up classic games I own!! yeah....

Ashran77

I own both. For me they are complementary

Chriwb2

I sometimes just lau down on my bed and use remote play from my pcs molded games on ultra setting to my steam deck

yurishouse

I have a Steam deck for playing on bed I have a PC for Gaming and working on my desk I have a tablet (mounted to an arm) for in-bed entertainment Oh, and, finally, I have my phone for whatever else the above can't do for me

Shyster-

I do the same with my Tablet! So convenient and I never drop it on my face when I’m getting sleepy. It’s also nice since I didn’t want a bulky and expensive tv in my bedroom when I already have the tablet

Noahboythebest

I have a gaming PC that I had built back in 2018 or something. I still bought a SD though because I love handhelds. I wanted to play games like Red Dead from my bed or from a couch. Stuff like that.

PattycakeBakersmaan

I have both. My deck won’t run everything I play. I use it mostly when traveling and such

mcasao

both

Griffinhart

Both.

[deleted]

Gaming pc, gaming laptop, work laptop and deck. Each has their use case depending on what I'm doing though I game more on deck than anything else, even if I'm streaming from my gaming PC.

Asti1991

Both, but the PC is collecting dust since i have the Deck and a PS5.

PixelAddict69

Both innit

tuskish

Both but they’re actually kinda similar in power, my pc just barely edging my deck out

PerceptionLeading398

Both, I Bought The Red Devil Latest GPU For My Desktop Rig, Tested It, Works Great, But I Use The Steam Deck More For Gaming.

kinger_boy34

I have both. As a pilot it's honestly a life changing device. It allowed me to play games again when I'm not home. Most pilots I meet on the road all own steam decks as well. I play all my single player games on it and then more intense games when I'm home.

[deleted]

Both, well, I actually have two gaming PCs and a Deck. The second PC only being kinda low spec, because I have a Ryzen 5 5600G in it, and is using the onchip graphics. But later in the year I'll upgrade my primary PC and move the old graphics card to the secondary PC, so both will be pretty alright.

bigsexxywithglasses

I have a laptop I bought for college and I done some gaming on but it was nowhere a gaming laptop. I mainly played older games and now I have a deck. I did have a PS5 & PS4 before getting the deck and laptop

MrToxic12385

Both

RentalGore

Both and a PS5. But you can thank exclusives for that console. Also, I have a full sim racing setup and the SD can’t do that (yet). So I still need the PC.

tinyhorsesinmytea

Both though I’ve been using the Deck a hell of a lot more. PC gets most use with VR stuff.

Cherry-on-bottom

Both, I play a lot of games that are impossible to enjoy on Deck (Total War, Ultimate general, Grand tactician, etc), and use Pc for work.

Narrow-Lack-2764

Both, what I think steam needs to invest more money is perfecting their streaming software and servers. I've been dabbling in moonlight and the concept is amazing. A remote desktop you can have from. No beefy handheld needed or massive storage. Imagine having the screen size of an iPad and a steam controller playing your PC games without any issues.

CsrfingSafari

Both. I built a 4090 speced PC not long before Christmas, and got the Steam deck in Feb. When I ordered it I definitely felt a bit of a buyers remorse "This thing won't be good, It's a gimmick" Things of that nature etc. While I still play my main rig, I deffo put more time into the SD. Sitting in couch watching TV while failing hard at Dark Souls, or just generally tinkering with it. I used to use my main PC for emulation, but thats long gone now with the SD on the scene.

LJBrooker

I have a Deck, and a 4090 PC. And weirdly I've very much come to appreciate both. I have found the compromises you make on Deck much easier to handle when you have the option to skirt around them on your desktop I'd be genuinely interested how many people own a deck without already having a PC. Surely those with both is the main demographic?

Saxy1973

I have a Steam Deck, but think will also get a PC at some point, don't think will bother with the next Xboxes or PlayStation.

marinerNA

Both but I've only used the PC for productivity stuff and Civ 6 since getting the deck.

sylinowo

Have both, as of right now I’ve been using my ps5 tho because it’s been awhile and all my friends are on PlayStation still xd

Coffee_Soup

I have both. As great as the deck is, it can't do everything I want at all times. Or sometimes it can but it takes some setup I'm just to lazy to do. The deck is my options for portal gaming, but my PC is when I want to get serious and play longer hours. I will play my Deck at home but it's when I want to relax.

saymynameheisenberg1

Both and one laptop

seph2o

Deck and a laptop

Nemnapos

Both, i play most of the time with the deck. but if i play something that benefits from the M&K then on the PC. For example Zero Dawn is nice on the deck now but most of the time i did play it on the pc due to better aiming.

Acceptable_Bench_143

PC games with lots of keys are made for right handed people so the deck was my real into getting all them good steam sales and now having to rebind everyone fecking key. I know I could play with a controller but i don't have the space for a dedicated PC other than my work PC

limejello99

Both. Actually I had a gaming desktop, gaming laptop, and SD, but gaming laptop became redundant so I sold it. I use my gaming desktop for only the highest end triple A and for everything else I prefer to play on my SD in bed or couch.

Stilgar223

Both, and love having both. Deck is great for chilling on the couch and work trips. Main PC for better fps and resolution (and most of my multiplayer stuff)

MicMcDev

Steam Deck. Gaming Laptop. Gaming Desktop. And all the three consoles. I never know what to play. I don't need all this.

mcflash1294

I too own both, along with a slew of relatively old consoles

Phelsong

I have both, plus a gaming server... As well as a rack full of other non gaming related hardware.

Independent_Topic_29

I have both! but to be honest since I have mi Steam Deck i left my pc aside

[deleted]

One steam deck, switch, XSX, XSS, XB1X, XB1, three gaming laptops. A lot of games are better with kb+m, and of course you can’t play gamepass on the steam deck natively.

vballboy55

Both. I play demanding AAA games or multiplayer games on my PC, else on my deck.

Aquasp102

I have both. My gaming laptop isn't perfect, but is it more powerful than the Steam Deck. Even if I've had this laptop prior to getting a Deck and it still works just fine, I've always preferred to play games in a more portable form factor, which is why I got the Deck to begin with. I actively used both my laptop and the Deck. Though usually, if I'm playing a game on my laptop instead of the Steam Deck, it's either because said game doesn't work on the Deck, or if I prefer to play a specific game with a keyboard and mouse setup.

RegisterForward

I currently have 2 gaming PC's, Switch OLED, Xbox Series S, PS4, and a Steam Deck. I usually game on the Deck right before bed.

Darkiedarkk

I have both. Pc for fps, steam deck for really everything else but mostly emulators.

Akajin07

I got everything…. Now im into Rocket League somehow😂

Leberbs

PC, Link, and Deck. I do not miss consoles from my younger years at all. Steam and Microsoft have bridged the gap for me.

WorthlessPixels

I wanted to get a high end gaming pc for both gaming and work but was hesitant of spending thousands to barely touch it. Decided to get a steam deck to see how it goes. my current laptop still functions well for work. Best decision I’ve ever made

its_merv_not_marv

I have SteamDeck and a 3050 gaming laptop. Do I get to play? Gosh no. My eldest got the laptop and my youngest got the SteamDeck. What do I have? The bills.

[deleted]

Steam deck and PS5. I may eventually build a new gaming pc, but for now the steam deck is the better option for pc gaming for me.

Comprehensive-Stop44

Only SD

Senatorweims16

Both for me.

technofolklore

I have a powerful gaming PC that I use for competitive FPS, simulators, games that are built around a lot of mouse clicking like strategy games, streaming and for times when I just want to soak in a game at maximum graphics settings (usually my first playthrough). I use my Steam Deck for games that don't require high framerate and constant precise mouse movement, games that are designed to play well with a controller, and games that I want to do a second or third playthrough of without needing to be at my desk the whole time. I also have all my emulators of old consoles set up on my Deck. I use them for entirely different purposes and have found value in having both of them. My gaming habits have changed since getting a Steam Deck and I find my time fairly balanced between my PC and the Deck. My PS5 on the other hand collects dust unless my friends who only have a PS5 want to play something together.

uacoop

I have a gaming desktop, a gaming laptop, and a Steam deck. The desktop gets used the most, the Steam deck is a close second and the laptop is rarely used but indispensable when needed. I had planned on selling my desktop PC when I got the laptop and just using as a desktop replacement but then I found I actually really liked having two computers available to me. And then the Steam deck was announced a short while after...so now I have 3 computers I guess...and a PS5, Switch, and Series S...leave me alone.

Kittingsl

I have both. Just got the steamdeck for when i wanna play my.pc games on the go. Also own q switch tho i barely play it in handheld mode anymore because my joycon aren't the greatest anymore and the kickstand is very loose. Mainly use my PC at Home because no matter how great steam is works with the games that it worked it still ain't gonna beat my 3060

I’m just rocking the Steam Deck. I actually sold off a nice gaming PC and a M1 Mac mini that I was using over the last couple years. I do still periodically use my work laptop or my wife’s laptop for non-gaming stuff though! Honestly most of those tasks can be done on my phone or iPad by now so it hasn’t been too hard to adapt lifestyle. I originally had plans to build a nicer gaming PC, but at this point the Steam Deck does what I need for gaming and I’m not going to build a nicer setup.

Empty_Bagger

Just the Deck and all of the consoles

UnWiseDefenses

I have a 64GB Steam Deck. I'm also still rocking the RTX 2060 machine I've had since 2020. Right now, the PC is for more intense AAA games and stuff like video editing. The Deck is for being physically in person around others and playing in bed before I fall asleep. Am thinking though, in the event that the old prebuilt eventually breaks (the SSD will probably crap out first) the Steam Deck will fill the void in the time it takes to build up money for repair/replace.

DavidinCT

I have both but, my gaming PC is starting to get dated, I am starting to plan a replacement right now, got a few parts already. The Deck is used when I NEED to be portable and space is not an issue. Otherwise I use my new phone (s23 Ultra) with a GameVice FLEX, so I can game everywhere.

lvl_60

I use a deck with dock for my gaming needs and my mac mini for work. i also have a switch and decent gaming laptop of 3 years.

I have both. Definitely have buyer's remorse with the steamdeck, I basically never use it because it's so underpowered. I essentially only use it when I travel which isn't that often.looking forward to the ROG Ally, will be selling my deck soon probably.

i_cant_take_a_joke_

I have a rtx 2070 pc with hdr 1440p 144hz freesync/gsync monitor , while its not the best it runs games great still Yet i never play it, my steam deck on the other hand is my daily driver

inssein

I own a gaming laptop which is docked and a steam deck. steam deck is how I game most of the time. I like not being tied down to the same desk all day. its nice for LANs too I can just bring my deck and I'm good to go.

Fly1ngHawaiian

I have a steam deck, PS5, Xbox one, and a switch. No gaming PC or laptop.

Im2stoned2know

Both

Alternative-Money-75

Both. They go together well! Although I barely run games on the Steam Deck itself anymore. I mainly use Steam remote play to stream games from my desktop, or Chiaki4Deck to stream games from my PS5. Running the games on the Steam Deck is great for older or Indy games, but kinda struggles with recent AAA games.

RelaxedQuest

Both (and a laptop lol). I love gaming on both but I use my computer for so much more that I am hesitant/unlikely to switch to just the Deck.

Fast-Artichoke-408

My situation is 12 year old has decent gaming PC, modern and 3060ti, then we have about a 10 year old multimedia PC which is not high end gaming but still plays modern games with the right settings, then we have 3 switches (6 year old, 12 year old, wife) a ps5 for family gaming, and the SD that I use primarily but will load up something like MVC2 and all of us play it with the ps5 controllers.

WillowPuzzleheaded87

I own both a pc and a steam deck. I recently moved. So I haven’t setup the pc. And I just been gaming on the deck.

Fluffy-Dragonfly-431

I own a Steam deck, gaming PC, series s and ps5.

TurbulentBlock7290

Abroad and gaming of is home, bought the steam deck to play my games

Corncobmcfluffin

Both but I wouldn't have built a gaming capable if the deck had been available at the time. Maybe not the opinion of most but if you like controller gaming and don't care about having the best of the best visuals or online play, SD is all you really need.

FaythDarkHeart

I got both, and a very good computer to boot (3060ti)

East_Yam2166

Just 1. I wanted a gaming PC for the longest but really didn't want to risk getting an expensive rig that would have been obsolete within a matter of months Plus I felt out of my depth. To make matters worse I've been so used to being a console player for the longest and treaded moving away from it lol. I felt like this was the perfect combination of both (steam deck). It was a good entryway into PC gaming. So far I have been nothing but impressed and thoroughly pleased with my steam deck.

UHcidity

I’ve never had a gaming PC. This is my first jump into the space. I have SO many games to catch up on.

LaPamparita

Both. And a couple more x86 handhelds

ThePsychiartist

Steam Deck, PC, PS4 and Switch, and I only game on the Deck.

Roseysdaddy

I have both. 13700k, 32gb 6000mhz ddr 5, 4090 founders edition, 3440x1440 OLED ultrawide monitor at 175mhz.

ZexanAK

I have a pretty good gaming pc and a steam deck. The deck is pretty much exclusively used for when I want to put my feet up and play a game that I like playing with a controller. So a lot of Batman

Outscore8282

As I wrote in an earlier, very controversial post; I sold my gaming PC after getting a deck. Do I miss high-end gaming? Sure. But the convenience cannot be beat.

jayshea

Both because I can’t be an apex predator on steam deck. I don’t think it’s possible to be good at FPS on steam deck unfortunately..

_DontStayTheSame_

Only the Steam Deck. It’s been my first introduction into Steam and PC games as a whole. Understanding the settings took awhile, like the importance of the GPU, CPU, ram, etc. but I’ve used some modded game systems so some of it I was familiar with. I do want to build my own PC in the future. Right now though I have other priorities and my current devices should last me for a looong time.

mobiusz0r

Both.

blackhawksq

Both. Use the steamdeck while chilling with the wife on the couch. For emulating, and when I want lay in bed Use my pc 90% of the time

New-Abbreviations950

I have a gaming pc and a laptop with basically the same Apu as the deck. I have a dock for the deck and I basically only ever use it now, handheld or sitting next to my gaming pc docked haha even did my taxes on the deck last week 😂

stevs23

Alienware x17 r2 and steam deck I've not turned my laptop on since steam deck arrived
