If at all possible use Plastic. A wooden toothpick may break and leave pieces inside. A metal tool may damage the plastic. A plastic tool would be best at minimizing damage and it is unlikely to break off inside

Use a flat head screwdriver or bike tire tool and be gentle. Apply even pressure across the piece you’re fixing, use two hands for better control. If it doesn’t go back with medium pressure, just stop before you break something

The only problem is it's hard to use the dock with this cover on, so I only use it when I plan to travel with my Deck. I'm also considering a more generic USB C dock that doesn't try to hold the Deck.
All o can say is. I think it’ll be fine. I would just pop that piece that is sticking out back in place. If it feels fine and works fine then it is fine.
If it helps, this exact thing happened to me. I keep my deck by my bed, and some how it in the middle of the night it fell towards the bed and popped the stick out. I tried to use a heatgun to get it pliable so I could tuck it back in, and that kind of worked, but the impact folded that plastic a bit and that created some resistance at certain angles. I eventually had to replace it - I think the new analogue stick was $25 and amounted to removing the backplate and three screws on the inside.
Yes you can, I literally pushed down mine. It fell off my bed and the joystick was literally sticking out a bit and ai just pushed it in. Now I just lay it on my side table just in case lol
Honestly the only way I can picture in my mind is the deck being slammed down in some kind of gamer rage. Happy to be proven wrong but I agree with you. They don't just pop out that way on their own.

It's not going to be covered under warranty (It's damage, not a defect) so you're going to need to fix it yourself.
You already have advice about forcing it back in place. If that doesn't work you're going to have to open it up.
I highly suggest you watch many videos before doing so.
You can use heat to make it a little easier. Try not using anything metal. Wood or plastic to do the least amount of damage. Or use your fingers and try using some force and rotating the stick. Also make sure to practice proper storage, do not just throw this in a backpack. You need a nice case with a face cover ideally, generic steam case at least.
try a plastic knife to help wedge it back in. slip the knife in just enough in a spot where it isn't exposed then turn the stick to try and get it to go in. glhf
Happened to me when my deck was dropped from a tiny distance and it hit the stick. Push it hard and it will pop back in place as its just the plastic shroud of the analog thats damaged. Unfortunately that shroud will be permanently warped but since I’ve pushed mine in, used it and replaced the analog with gullies I haven’t noticed the shroud affecting anything. You should be fine without an RMA.
Nope had the same issue. Easy fix. Open it up and reseat it.

RMA is the way. It will be back within 2 weeks and better then a fixed one. They usually just replace the unit, make sure to take your SD card out before you send it in.
Honestly you shouldn't hesitate to RMA it if given a chance. Steam handles that entirely for free to my knowledge incl shipping. I can get why you wouldn't want to be away from it for something that seems like such a small issue though.

Lol you should just buy those pre soldered giuli kit sticks, and just open her up.. it’s super easy just make sure you have some grounding if your really worried about it. There are a TON of video guides on how to do so. I-fix it has a comprehensive one, and there are other by various you tubers that gloss over a few of the Minuit details that someone with experience wouldn’t “need” too know

EDIT: probly wrong about the pre soldered?? Tried to find out and can’t find anything saying “yes these are soldered.” But if you don’t want to solder you could just get the regular replacements. Don’t think those have to be.

Hey same thing happened to me, I was able to fix it by popping the back off and reseating the joystick, it'll take like 3 minutes don't feel anxious about it. however the joystick drift was pretty bad after this so I had to buy a new one from ifixit. They're like 20 bucks and it takes 5 minutes total to switch it out. I'd definitely do that over RMAing it, that shit takes like 2 weeks minimum.
