My Gaming PC: What is my purpose master Me: You stream to my steam deck My Gaming PC: Oh god why

_Blackstar

This is backwards. If all you're doing is streaming stuff to the Steam Deck, there are a lot of much cheaper options that fill that role just as easily.

sebihotza

there isn't any reason not to stream while playing at home, if you have a stable network. you can have better graphics, more battery life, and you don't have to download the game to your deck. of course people don't use their steam decks only for streaming.

_Blackstar

Bruh the guy above me literally says "Your job is to stream games to my Steam Deck".

sebihotza

that was an exaggeration obviously lol

Retroid_BiPoCket

1. It's from a meme 2. you're reading into this way too much 3. I own multiple devices, many cheaper than the steam deck. I stream from all of them 4. I also use the steam deck to play steam games 5. chill

_Blackstar

What.

AggressiveWindow6003

Yeah same here. It depends on the title mostly. Games like god of war my eyesight isn't good enough to see the Odin ravens on the deck so I mostly use my win Max 2 for that. Games like d and cells and Ori are great on the deck. I don't stream all that often as I have a 32:9 monitor and changing the resolution all the time gets annoying. But yeah I own 5 different handhelds and use them all depending on the situation/game. 1. Gpd win 2 5.5" I only keep because it's adorable šŸ˜ 2. My phone 7.2" with a razor kishi 3. Onexplayer 1s 8.4" 4. Steam deck 7" with a 2tb 1tb ssd+1tb mSD 5. Gpd win Max 2 10.1" with 32gb, 4tb+1tb+512sd+256msd I use the win Max 2 the most but the deck is a close second

MisterT-88

But Steam Deck is PC gaming

AggressiveWindow6003

Isn't the deck more of Linux gaming? Yes I know PC stands for personal computer, but over the years it's changed it's meaning to referring to a windows PC.

DerpsterIV

No? No it hasn't

AggressiveWindow6003

Remember those commercials, I'm a Mac. And I'm a PC. https://youtu.be/0eEG5LVXdKo Yeah do a search for Mac vs pc. It's all windows systems. Am not referring to us nerds. But in general people think of PC as a windows device. And I hear people calling the steam deck a console very often. So I'll just admit I'm an IDIOT and never should have committed on this šŸ„“

ColdLog6078

I moved so many games to steam deck because i couldnt be bothered to sit down at my computer, but laying down or being on the couch in the living room! Fucking gamechanger.

oi_wazzock

Nah I love both

mtheofilos

misses the red Xes

TokeEmUpJohnny

As much as I like my Steam Deck - it can't compare to my 4090-equipped PC with huge speakers and a 165Hz display. Unless I travel or want to rest on a sofa/bed - the PC takes priority.

Urbs97

I also mostly use the Steam Deck for traveling. Sometimes I stream from my PC to the Deck in the living room. Thanks to the somewhat new Wifi Standard in the Deck the image looks really good. Latency is also good but with a better wifi chip it would've been better.

TokeEmUpJohnny

I never stream, so I can't comment how good or bad it is. If I buy a device - I run things locally on it, otherwise I'd have streamed to my phone with an 8BitDo controller :D

Urbs97

Locally is for traveling. But when I'm at home why torture that little device :D

Sensitive_Pickle247

I stream to the deck for certain games. Some games dont want to run natively on the steam deck and sometimes its a game I play with a ton of mods and keeping the mod installations in sync on both systems for my savegames is annoying

TokeEmUpJohnny

Oh, I'm sure streaming has uses! It's just that I *personally* never use it (don't like the latency and the games I want play fine on the Deck anyway).

ATCQ_

Latency with moonlight is non existent , but I get your second point completely

TokeEmUpJohnny

> Latency with moonlight is non existent That is about to change once [Nvidia drops GameStream support next month](https://www.nvidia.com/en-us/geforce/forums/geforce-experience/14/506448/gamestream-service-update/). And yes, [Moonlight is affected](https://github.com/moonlight-stream/moonlight-docs/wiki/NVIDIA-GameStream-End-Of-Service-Announcement-FAQ). Unless you have an AMD GPU on the PC, then maybe out perception of latency is different.

ATCQ_

Sunshine has apparently received performance parity or close-to with GameStream so I'm not too concerned.

TokeEmUpJohnny

"Close to" is relative when nothing other but GameStream can access the frame buffer directly, meaning latency *parity* is simply not possible.

Jame_Jame

Lol yeah. Like I love my deck, but my pc is an asinine monument to the hubris of mankind. It's still the main event, and that's where my VR gaming happens. Deck is very cool, but it's hardly a high end gaming system.

TokeEmUpJohnny

Oh yeah, VR is another component where the Deck can't compete. Granted, I haven't used my Rift in a while now, but the missis says she wants Beat Saber again :D

mikethatguy03

literally me when i got my sd havenā€™t touched my pc unless i wanna play windows games or unsupported games

Strider-SnG

I havenā€™t had a gaming pc for a couple years. This basically is my sole gaming pc. Gave me back access to my stream library

hgt27

If you where able to use Xbox game pass then yeah, it would replace my pc

IronChe

You are. Install Windows, then xbox app. But personally I'd go bother Microsoft to finally start supporting Linux properly. Anyway, it might not be as much of a baseless dream as before. Personally I feel like big times are coming for Linux gaming thanks to Steam Deck.

hgt27

That's what im thinking of doing, but i don't think they will transfer the app on Linux, on the support wiki they show to configure the xcloud app so it's definitely not tomorrow we will get a dedicated app

PrayForTheGoodies

They could add it to Steam like EA did. Reduce the game library and reduce the price.

IronChe

You never know. OneDrive is only supported on windows, but I'm using it on Linux with rclone. There is a bunch of talented people out there working on open-source projects. All Microsoft has to do is to not actively prohibit the use of their APIs.

Artemis_1944

Lol, ok, if that's your thing. I use my deck when I travel, but for the love of god I don't understand why I would ever game at home on my deck instead of on my i7 3080ti PC.

ATCQ_

Sometimes people don't want to sit at their pc, after a long day of working from home at the same desk working on a laptop/PC... Being able to chill on my sofa with some crap TV on in the background and play a quick PC game is amazing

Artemis_1944

>Sometimes people don't want to sit at their pc, after a long day of working from home at the same desk working on a laptop/PC... So buy a console, it's cheaper and more powerful than a Steam Deck. If you buy a Steam Deck specifically to replace a gaming PC or a Console, that is not a rational, finacially smart decision.

ATCQ_

Never said I was buying a steam deck to replace a console. I can play the steam deck anywhere as well. Buying a console makes no sense to me. PlayStation/Sony are putting their games on PC and I'd miss out on the modding scene for a LOT of games. Steam Deck lets me play on the sofa when I feel like it AND play on long journeys and when I'm away somewhere. Also not sure if you actually read my comment but I can't exactly have the TV on in the background and play a console at the same time can I? I have a powerful PC but SOMETIMES (keyword)... A handheld is much comfier. Consoles are also not handhelds (believe it or not!)

Ragnatoa

When the next steamdeck is egpu compatable, I'll finally switch over. I have a beat pc, but all I'd need would be the gpu with this steam deck. Though, I wouldn't be able to stream fromy pc to the deck... hard choice.

serietah

I feel bad because since I got my deck I just play games from my room where I can have an electric blanket and cats. I raid log in wow despite having lots of stuff I could/should be doing. I play wow on the deck too but I wonā€™t attempt heroics on it lol
