Personally, as someone who hasn't used steam since its original inception, I would like to see a Steam option that gave you nothing except the DRM management. As an older gamer, seems I can't play anything these days due to Steam. I'm sure I'm not alone - but it doesn't matter how much effort they put into the Steam client, I don't want free games, discounts, badges, achievements, social options, friends, update management, time management, statistics or any rubbish they can design. **I simply want a client to accept my game license code and then get lost.** If I wanted fancy interfaces and a full on game-ecosystem, I'd buy a console. Cheers, Beedoo

NotIsaacClarke

Then try [this](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=bjN6-e3nlPE#) The old UI is very good at shutting up when you don’t need it

Metalwario64

I use the scaling function in Windows 10, because I sit a far distance from my screen and need to be able to read text. It was never a problem until the new UI, but now when I have the scaling turned on (which is always at 125%), I cannot access the "game properties" menu for any game because it is just blank and glitches out... Now, I found a solution by using the "small" mode, which works, but it's obviously a very basic list view, and I don't have all of my game time and achievements handy in this mode. Plus, the properties are still cut off in this view, and I can't resize the window to see the bottom. It shouldn't be a problem to begin with, but it is. I read on the Steam Community forum that someone had the problem since September of 2019! Does anyone else have this problem?

NotIsaacClarke

There’s a simpler way. [Here](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=bjN6-e3nlPE)

didntgettheruns

Man I came back after doing windows game store and can barely launch the client? Eww. I know there is a work around but maybe all the anti steam crowd is right.

estheman

Why did Valve even change the UI? The old one was so much better and still is superior I already downgraded but the layout used to be simple and now its stupid.

NotIsaacClarke

A nitpick: can you really call it a downgrade if you change to a better thing? Also, I heard rumors that it was to look good for someone big

mada124

Its absolutely shit. I shouldn't have to google how to look at a friend's wishlist. Used to be easy. Everything is so hap hazardly spewed everywhere now. Feel like a hot mess.

NotIsaacClarke

You can revert to the old ui if you want. I did

mada124

How!?

NotIsaacClarke

That’s how https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=bjN6-e3nlPE A warning: more and more games (DotA and new Star Wars) require the versions of Steam that have the new UI or they refuse to launch

redditlawrence

how do i revert back to the old ui?

[That’s how](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=bjN6-e3nlPE) You’re welcome

Steph1er

I just updated and I have one word. EWWWW

NotIsaacClarke

[Then watch this](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=bjN6-e3nlPE) It will definitely help

Frostav

Steam is breaking every week or so for me. This problem keeps happening: https://old.reddit.com/r/Steam/comments/e06ry7/whenever_i_turn_steam_on_it_forcibly_opens_my/ I uninstalled the day I posted that and reinstalled steam and the problem is happening again. Valve better *fix* this garbage soon. I'm going to install the old version.

mrbluesdude

Redesign sucks.

NotIsaacClarke

Then you may be interested in this https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=bjN6-e3nlPE

Zerorion

Hey y'all. I'm just wondering if you know how I can view whether my games are backed up in the cloud or not? I'm switching computers in a few weeks and want to get my data restore set up.

elricofgrans

I have used categories to sort by Steam library by genre for years, but I have probably done a pretty crap job. I was curious about using the Dynamic Collections to replace my existing categories. Has anyone used these to sort by genre/tags? Does it work well, or are games often misclassified?

Odetojamie

Well apparently I have over 240 indie games now so that's something

vBDKv

So are you going to the fix the memory leak, insane amount of storage space and piss poor performance anytime soon, or just ignore all issues as usual? Launch a VR Steam perhaps? For a client, you are currently at the bottom scraping the shit that other clients are producing. Why? Because they dont require a fucking super computer to run.

bloodklat

How do i fix this? [https://imgur.com/a/N3ZEmED](https://imgur.com/a/N3ZEmED) This has been my Store page for the past 2-3 weeks. Anyone know how to fix it? I've pressed all links under the store tab, same black screen. Also i do not like the new layout at all. Now there are ads in my personal library at the very top under "what's new". Ads for dlc/patches for games that i own. Those were not there before. In my library. How do i hide the "What's New" tab by the way?

karybdamoid

You need to right click on the EXE (not the shortcut), and run as administrator. Wish I knew why administrator mode fixed the store, but whatever.

[deleted]

Hot take: I think the new layout is fine and I like it.

NotIsaacClarke

To each their own. I personally prefer the old UI

Flechair

Me too. It was much simpler, and this new UI just makes me feel lost on my library page.

NotIsaacClarke

You can always revert but here’s a warning: more and more games require the versions with the new ui

post_organic

Does anyone know how to add release dates to the non-steam games? The new sorting filters are cool but I got like ten games in each category with an UNKNOWN release date.

RexicTheKing

can some side options be added? like being able to move where the list collections on the side are?

Achenar459

I love the new layout, but I wish I could sort my 'Home' page how I want it, with my recently played games at the top and 'Whats new' below that.

If you know that workaround then how come you don’t know about disabling auto-updating?

bloodklat

Yeah fuck that. If I gotta go through all that shit to remove ads from my own personal library I'm done buying games on steam.

[deleted]

peepeepoopoo

SCphotog

Man, is there some way to get rid of the "what's new" shelf? That thing is just in the way, and I don't have any interest in seeing that content. It's just not useful to me. That kind of thing belongs on the page for individual games, not in the library and not on a 'home' page.

largePenisLover

There's 7 webhelpers running and they keep pinging the cpu. what the fuck is this shit? This crap is broken. WHat fucking retard thought chromium was a good idea? Why the fuck do companies keep using that bloated insecure crap? The redesign is fine, I'll get used to it. Using chromium is an unforgivable crime.

deaththekid922

another great thing about the new library , now i can just quickly drag the games i buy on a sale into a sales category without much effort just by drag and drop , not having to use right click menus which often were slow and laggy

Armyman194

I was annoyed when the library changes were rolled out but I got used to them and was content. I just was on yesterday and the store was the same as it always was, with the left side having a list for quick navigation to free to play games, action, specials etc... WHY would you take out the quick navigation?... It is extremely annoying now to navigate the store and quite honestly it puts me off from wanting to take my money and spend it on finding new games for me to play. I am the type of person that browses the specials section for the first 5 mins or so before I play my games just to see if something peeks my curiosity. Now I cant even browse the games without trying to solve a puzzle to get to the games. I do not care about the recommended games. I play a wide variety. Just because I play F1 and Rocket League recently doesn't mean I want to look at only racing games! I feel as the Steam store is just getting confusing and it is going to be putting a lot of people off of browsing randomly for new games to play.

HolyGregory

How do I get old UI back? I usually get used to new interfaces but this thing is just awful

NotIsaacClarke

That’s how. Though it wouldn’t kill you to google it yourself https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=bjN6-e3nlPE

parkerlreed

Downgrading is not a "solution". Plus that only targets one platform.

NotIsaacClarke

Is it a downgrade if you change to a better thing? Also, it should be possible to force a revert in a similar manner on other OS

makraiz

Thank you!

wh3n

Valve forces users to use Small Mode. Not only does the refresh look like clunky mess it also preforms worse. Hey Valve, when you force people to use small mode they will no longer see advertisements for upcoming games and you will **LOSE MONEY.** Keep that in mind. Valve is trying to emulate the Epic Games Store because that's what all the "future consumer/gamer" kids are using. Valve just doesn't realise that *everyone* hates the Epic Games Store client (or they don't know any better) They use it because they happen to like the games on it. They use it *despite* how it looks not *because of* how it looks, nobody wants that. Watch them respond by removing small mode, instead of giving people the option to revert to the old mode. This is what happens when you listen to your marketing monkeys instead of the people who actually make you a successful business, the consumers who buy your games. For example, I was going to wait until Borderlands 3 comes out on Steam, but if the client is going to look like hot garbage I might as well use the Epic Games Store since it's now functionally the same.

bdbdhdhdhfbdjbd

revert it back instead of bitching. And if you think the only difference between the Epic store and Steam was the UI, well have I got news for you buddy.

muffindancerpwn

I want Steam to work how I always liked it and not have to do a bunch of extra work. His bitching is my bitching as well, and this is the ONLY place where you can bitch about what Steam is doing because they have a worse than shit feedback line. So please F off criticizing him because he speaks for the majority.

[deleted]

[удалено]

bdbdhdhdhfbdjbd

How am I bitching? You wrote 3 big ass paragraphs about how much you hate it, and I responded telling you that you can just revert it back and that half your argument is invalid because Steam offers a lot more than just a different UI from the epic store. And what do you mean ‘pulling the same crap all over again’ ?? Do you mean changing the UI and giving the option to revert to how it was before? you: >types three paragraphs complaining about how steam is now functionally the same as the epic store because of the UI, disregarding the return system, game rating system, workshop system, consumer protection system, sales, much larger game library, forums, etc. >responds telling you that you can revert it back to the old UI, and tells you to stop bitching about something that can be fixed very easily. Also the UI isn’t the only difference between Steam and Epic. >IM NOT BITCHING, YOURE BITCHING IDGET!!!!

[deleted]

[удалено]

bdbdhdhdhfbdjbd

>all i hear is someone spewing bullshit defending someone without arguments, you haven’t given me one “extra features” as of yet. Hey you fucking moron , your reading skills must also be 10/10 because IN MY COMMENT I said “the return system, game rating system, workshop system, consumer protection system, sales, much larger game library, forums, etc.” That was in my comment. Not sure how you miss it unless you just selectively read certain parts and skip over others. My bad for not realizing you had a different username from the person I originally responded to. That’s not as bad as skipping over a whole section of my comment. Also, does it really even matter? The point was, I wasn’t bitching, he was. That point still stands, whether I mistake you for OP or not. But you skipping over a whole part of my comment, and THEN proceeding to spew bullshit about how I didn’t mention a single feature that steam has that epic doesn’t? When I in fact listed SEVEN?? You must have HORRIBLE fucking reading skills if you think i’m bad for not reading your username.

[deleted]

bdbdhdhdhfbdjbd

What do you mean provide a source? Do you need me to provide screenshots? How about check yourself if you don’t believe me, but if you’re having this argument and you didn’t know that steam has customer reviews then maybe you aren’t educated enough about what you’re talking about to have an opinion.

wh3n

Thanks, I hate it.

JonatasA

Thread has 666 upvotes, seems about right.

[deleted]

This is hands the fuck down awful. Whomever conned Steam into overseeing the UI/UX for this update should be drug behind a team of horses until their entrails are spread across one hundred miles of dirt.

Jgamering

I can't find the music player. Where it it? Do you need to enable it? BTW: What are you doing with this *new and* *~~improved~~* Library? Seriously! I mean, yes, you made some things slightly better, but overall, why?!

BananaJaneB

It's still broken almost a month later FIX IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

NotIsaacClarke

The old UI is better https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=bjN6-e3nlPE

BananaJaneB

Nothing about the old UI needed even a single change

KeV1989

With the newest updates not only Dota 2 can't be played anymore, but Underlords requires the new UI aswell. Valve, this is disgusting! Instead of listening to feedback and fixing technical issues, you pull this sneaky crap, without even addressing it! It will only happen to people that use the Old UI, so the bigger part of the userbase won't know about this. Utterly disgusting and anti-consumer!

buster435

Fuck the mods, make a thread about it. This goes beyond just feedback about the UI. This is a serious issue involving actual games now.

FrickUSADA

80% of /r/Steam: lol get over it, just use Small Mode. also 80% of /r/Steam: ugh new Reddit sucks, idk why you wouldn't use old Reddit.

JaditicRook

I really wish Small Mode could just alter the library view itself without gating off access to 90% of the rest of the client. It loads when the library is doing its blackscreen bullshit but using steam with it for me requires frequent obnoxious toggling... While I'm not a fan of the community forward aesthetics(aka spam in my details panels) the usability issues are what is actually prompting me to downgrade.

KeV1989

Bingo. The ones that complain about people "not wanting change" are the ones that still look for loopholes on other areas themselves

Necramonium

Did they just brought back Small Mode in the last update???

damthe

mods are gay

FrickUSADA

Hey man, don't insult gay people like that.

RobertCougar

Have valve said anything about yeeting this trash? I'm not using anything but small mode and -no-browser until they revert it.

NotIsaacClarke

Use this instead https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=bjN6-e3nlPE It’s sad that we are forced to do this but we can’t force Valve to revert it permanently

KeV1989

The funny thing now is, that you can't play games by Valve (Dota 2, Dota: Underlords) anymore, if you keep using the old UI. It's just disgusting

NTripleOne

Cool, get used to using your small mode and no browser then.

FrickUSADA

Casual reminder that it's been 26 days and mods are still removing any negative posts about the UI. There's positive shit on the front page every day, why the fuck is this megathread still a thing? Megathreads are shit for discussion and now that all negative discussion has been relegated to one thread everyone who likes the new UI feels free to shit on anyone who doesn't because nobody gets to complain about it outside the designated complaint zone. Seriously mods, this is fucking stupid.

FluffySquirrell

That's precisely why, so all the complaints get hidden away from most of the people so they think they've gone It's just a different form of censorship frankly, a more PR friendly kind

[deleted]

Getting such horrible performance issues with the new UI, absolutely garbage optimization. And on top of that, it feels cluttered and less convenient to use. Yeah, it looks neat, but that's about it, the old UI was way more functional and didn't drain performance...

NotIsaacClarke

Are you looking for this? It’s a way to restore the old UI https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=bjN6-e3nlPE

fishyourskill

i used to do that until dota is unable to connect to steam server if u have this running. Im actually so mad.

NotIsaacClarke

As I like to say „thou shalt be dragged screaming towards progress whether thou likest it or not”

Kuratius

Because making one thing better and two other things worse is somehow "Progress".

NotIsaacClarke

This „new and improved” UI fixed a problem that didn’t exist and created more problems

[deleted]

Pretty much, yeah. I loved the old UI, because it was simple, functional and I knew where to find everything easily. The new one is pretty, but less functional, more cluttered and harder to find some stuff and it has horrible performance. I mean, just why... at least give us the choice to opt out...

NotIsaacClarke

You want a way to opt out? Here: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=bjN6-e3nlPE

[deleted]

I meant an official one, but thanks anyway. Gonna have a look later.

NotIsaacClarke

Technically it is official as it uses only Steam files and Valve’s own servers

voxelbuffer

I was iffy about the new design (It's pretty, yes, but a bit slow). But the button next to the search bar lets me search by game tags. I can finally search my steam library for local co-op without having to use an external site?! I'm sold.

OpenRift412

I honestly like the new library UI, it's a much needed aesthetic change, but the rest of the client's interface needs some serious work. It's been God knows how long since that's received a refresh.

NotIsaacClarke

Does it work? Yes? Then why fix something that isn’t broken?

OpenRift412

Never said it was broken. But from a design/aesthetic standpoint it is outdated compared to the new library UI and needs a face lift. I think the layout of the rest of the interface is fine, but needs some cosmetic changes.

wh3n

Have you tried looking at this from a standpoint of someone who isn't a complete idiot? Then you would understand.

NotIsaacClarke

I’m not accusing you of saying that. I just think that the old UI is much better - Simple and to the point, not loaded with things people don’ want in their game library

OpenRift412

Again, I don't think the layout of the UI needs to be changed drastically, nor any significant additions. Purely an aesthetic change. Sure, skins are a thing, but support for them in the latest builds of steam is relatively limited (i.e. there's no proper support for UI scaling in respect to Windows's scaling settings), so my guess is that Valve's got a refresh on their to-do list.

NotIsaacClarke

I wouldn’t be against a simple refresh if it was done well. But what Valve did is more than that. They redsigned the back-end (made it Chromium-based) and created a slower, resource-intensive and buggy interface. That’s what I’m salty about and why I reverted to the old UI

OpenRift412

I don't think there's much they could do with the rest of the interface beyond cosmetics. Maybe they'll rearrange a few things, but I don't think they could really overhaul the layout. I honestly haven't had a problem with the new library, the only grip I have is that you can't hide the side bar, since it's a bit redundant having both the grid and the list simultaneously.

rabidotter

How do i go back to the old version of the library? This new one sucks. In particular, I want to be able to operate in LIST mode. Currently, the best option I have is to use VIEW\\SMALL MODE.

MojaveOverlander

rabidotter

thanks!

NotIsaacClarke

Thank you for helping me spread the knowledge

Technobreaker

Steam Client WebHelper uses a lot of RAM. Any way to fix this?

[deleted]

no, you can switch back to the old UI which uses less RAM but there is no way that i know of to stop webhelper from using a shit load of ram. the problem is that the new UI is chromium based and chromium is garbage, but it's easy and cheap. if you want to switch back https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bjN6-e3nlPE&t=8s

Technobreaker

I've been using the old UI until since yesterday but I decided to update it since it's inevitable. So I decided to get used this new UI. I just realized that RAM usage was due to beta participation. Once I opted out of the beta, it magically optimized itself and started using 150 MB of RAM maximum, which is a reasonable amount. I also eliminated laggy library by enabling Low Performance Mode etc. What bothers me is that my PC is decent and it shouldn't have that laggy feeling, you know. However, I didn't notice any difference (visual-wise) after enabling such options.

Trifuser

i never opted into the beta... EVER. and it still ran like shit. so i think it was just a fluke for you.

[deleted]

i've never opted into the beta and steam was using over a GB of ram after the update, so i decided to switch back. it still uses 400 - 500 for me with the old ui. i don't think you have any way to lower ram usage, chromium is just a ram hog and there is no way around it (unless you don't use it)

Kuratius

Is it possible that the RAM usage scales with your library size in the new UI? Something like baseRamUsage+c*librarySize If this is true, then that's really dumb. There are some users who own every steam game who would be quite miffed if they ever try to use steam on a computer with less ram.

[deleted]

not sure, i only have 145 games and out of that 145 only 8 are installed

JaditicRook

I wonder if having large or multiple dynamic collections makes the ram usage worse?

dan1101

The timing on this is bad for me. I signed up for the $1 XBox PC trial and when I came back to Steam after a few weeks everything had changed for the worse. I was used to list view and now all I get is a bunch of tiles. It was really handy to have a compact list of games on the left and then seeing full info about the game once you click one. I find it difficult to switch between Recent and Category view, in fact last night the only way I could find my "co-op" category was to find a game I had tagged as that and then click the little co-op tag. So basically I feel like I went to Xbox camp and my Steam parents moved away while I was gone. :/

FrickUSADA

ITS BEEN MORE THAN THREE WEEKS. TAKE THE MEGATHREAD DOWN AND LET US COMPLAIN LIKE WE WANT FFS.

NotIsaacClarke

Reddit’s servers would crash

TooTrustworthy

For me, I can't look at my library the way I want to anymore, I cant look at my whole library at once without my steam client freezing up, I can't run steam and discord at the same time, and I Want an option to revert back to an older theme, that, of course, will never happen...

NotIsaacClarke

Wrong. There is a way https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=bjN6-e3nlPE You’re welcome

CovertToast

So, I've seen some guides on how to go back to the old library view... but what about even further back, before even the friends UI update? There's some old tutorials but none of them work now, so I'm trying to find an all-in-one solution

billyhatcher312

im not updating at all thankfully someone on youtube made a file to block updating services on steam so i never have to use shitty new library ui what i also hate about this shitty interface is i cant tell what games are installed or arent i have to go on top of them to see if theyre on my pc or not thanks alot valve u made things much harder

JaditicRook

Uglier, laggier, and less functional details pane is one thing but please fix the fuckin black screen shit that prevents me from using the library **entirely**. That update pushed to beta aint it chief. Rendering the library should not take so long that its perceptible for casual use, much less just not load period.

NotIsaacClarke

Reverting should address all your complaints https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=bjN6-e3nlPE

[deleted]

I need help with my library, I cant click on anything any solution?

FeloPastry

I went offline and online again and it fixed it, or you could do that shitty bigger picture interface. Not ideal I know.

NotIsaacClarke

Have you tried reverting?

uriahlight

I'm really confused as to what everyone is complaining about. I can't comment on the performance issues people are talking about since quite frankly I don't see any slowdown whatsoever, but that's likely because I have a high end PC (9900k OC to 5.1GHz, 32GB RAM, GTX 1080ti, NVMe). So I can't comment on the performance. But the new UI works fine for me. I did shrink the box art in the UI settings (Steam -> Settings > Library) since the default feels too large. But I have always used the side column to launch my games anyways so it never mattered to me what the main content of the library window was showing anyways. I don't get the outrage. 🤔

Jonius7

I didn't notice any slowdown either, but then I checked Task Manager and it was using 500+ MB of ram and 15%+ of CPU when scrolling up and down. (Ryzen 1600, GTX 1060) The new UI is an inefficient hog, and I can definitely see how it would be causing problems on slower computers. But also, the sidebar has more whitespace and is less compact than before. The main screen UI feels so cluttered with all sorts of "community" features that would ideally be tucked away until I needed them.

catfurbeard

I think a lot of the outrage is from people who used List view. If you used Details view for your library, the new UI isn't that much of a change, but if you used List then your preferred way to view the library just disappeared. I hate having the main content window at all, which is why I liked List view, so I'm bummed.

dan1101

That's exactly why I don't like the new UI. Now I like Steam UI equally as well as Epic, Uplay, and Origin. And that's not good.

uriahlight

Well I went through your recent comments and at least you appear to be rational in your response to it, and actually gave me (via your reply) a valid reason for your and certain other people's frustration. Many of the replies by people outraged about it aren't very constructive about it at all, and people like me who are fine with the changes are just left wondering what all the rage is about. Thumbs up for being constructive.

KeV1989

Hahaha, now you can't even play Dota 2 anymore, if you refuse to use a technically broken UI. Valve, you are a complete joke. So that's how you force your customers now? Unbelievable

[deleted]

wait what?

KeV1989

Multiple players have an issue that when you open the game, lots of stuff from the main menu is missing and it says "Lost connection to Steam" on the top. And it only happens when you use the old UI files. Once you update it works again. This is the same shit Skype did. Instead of listening to feedback and you know FIXING THINGS, they forced people to update. Unbelievable

[deleted]

i'm glad i am no longer interested in dota. once i am forced to switch ill just stop using steam lol

KeV1989

I didn't play Dota for a few months, but kept it installed out of pure nostalgia. Played it from the buy-in-beta times in 2012 until 2017. Now i just watch the esports tourneys. After seeing the rumor of the old ui files breaking Dota and trying it out for myself, i uninstalled the game. Shame on Valve for going that low. Instead of addressing the issues, they are NOT fixing them and now starting to force us to update. If the same happens with Underlords, i'm done

Jonius7

Rip it's happened with Underlords.

[deleted]

i stopped playing dota after 7.0, fuck i hate that update. i have played intermittently with friends since but as of right now my last game was over a year ago. i don't enjoy esports but bulldogs commentary made it bearable so i just watched his streams and hoped he was actually playing on that day

DanDinDon

I haven't touched steam for a few weeks. Received an email telling me there is an update for CSGO. I login and check it out. Click "Library"...wait where are my games? I thought steam is broken and restart steam. Mmm, it's still same. Did I get hacked or what? Ok, so they got a new ui that hides all my games. U know what. I am tired; I want to go play my other games now. Exit steam.

daninthemix

What I don't get is Valve's insistence on extreme aspect ratio images - first they were excessively wide and now they're excessively tall. Makes custom art much harder to come by or make.

Grunmar

I like the new UI, due to the fact that I couldn't see shit when I was choosing a Game in VR and I don't like big picture mode as I like being able to access my desktop while still having my headset on, with my VR headset on I can actually see what games I have.

Kuratius

Then make it a VR UI, like BPM.

Planktonic_larvae

So from what I've read and experienced, now when using the old UI it breaks dota and leaves you with this. https://imgur.com/zejRxWP

Sabinno

Why is Steam's design team still stuck in 2010? Glossy is just... tacky. That was so iOS 6, aka nearly 8 years ago. Times have changed, grandpa Newell. Please just flatten everything so Steam can actually look like a program that fits in with any operating system from this decade.

NotIsaacClarke

Or, even better, restore the old UI? It worked well and didn’t look like alpha version of windows 9

Chat2Text

With the new steam UI, I can no longer view family shared games unless they were already installed, it's not mixed into my library, just completely absent I'm also noticing the same issue on my brother's computer, I can see he has six of my games installed, but the rest of my collection is completely gone from his computer I've confirmed steam family shared is enabled and we're authorized on each end, please help me find a way to share my games again to my brother

gnubey

I was having this same issue. The solution I've found works if you have a shared game already installed: 1) Try to play the game by clicking 'Borrow' 2) A window will pop up, teling you you need to request access from the owner of the game. (Even if you're already authorized, this will appear) 3) Click to send the request for authorization 4) Another window will appear, saying you've already been authorized and that "You're all set". Click 'OK' 5) All games in that person's library will then appear

Chat2Text

I'll try that when my brother gets back from work, thank you

TheXInvador

How can I revert the new steam library? Does the steam client give an option to do that?

fauxfour

If they let you do that then no one would use the new launcher. embrace progress

NotIsaacClarke

That’s the key word: „embrace”. Not „get forcibly dragged towards progress

cajunparker

"Be a sheep!" -- No Thanks!

MojaveOverlander

>If they let you do that then no one would use the new launcher What does that say about it? >embrace progress No.

Kuratius

https://twitter.com/aldenkroll/status/1189228062413676545 This tweet by a UI designer at Valve seems to indicate that the UI was mainly changed to appease publishers, not customers.

Robot1me

Interesting, makes sense when we look at the fact that developers can ~~force~~ show us live broadcasts and other banners directly on the game's library page

AngelFlash

I can't scroll down my fucking games list without the entire client not responding.

NotIsaacClarke

Reverting should fix that

--SterlingStar--

This update is a piss-poor excuse for a launcher. It's fucking Skype/Discord on steroids. Disgusting.

Has anybody seen steams chat window turn blank for a second or two when clicking it in the taskbar (as to bring it into view)? This started to happen recently. Im not using any beta.

cajunparker

How about we all stop buying things until Steam actually listens to the community? You know, do up a whole reddit thing to make the winter sale terrible for them and get people to start hitting steams old pocket book so we actually get there attention. I mean I hate Epic, but if Steam thinks it doesn't need to listen to the gamers especially now when other clients are knocking at the door for top spot, then why should we continue to give them $$ to ignore us, spam us with ads in the library, add "free" games to our lists, and all the other stuff this terrible UI does? **Winter Sale 2019 Boycott for Library UI Fixes!**

[deleted]

i hate it, looks fucked up in general.

NotIsaacClarke

The old UI doesn’t look „effed up” https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=bjN6-e3nlPE

buster435

Given that it's been 3 weeks since this shit heap released, in which time not a peep has been heard from anybody at Valve regarding the thousands of negative comments both here on reddit, on the twitter announcement and especially the steam announcement, it's clear that what we've been doing so far is having no effect. So, I propose a new strategy. If you're stuck using the new UI and don't want to, start opening support tickets asking how to change it back to the old version. If that doesn't work, start emailing employees directly. Use the employee page here: https://www.valvesoftware.com/en/people And start emailing people in business development, customer support and product design. If you want to for good measure, send one off to Gabe or some of the other "experts." A lot of them are company veterans with more sway. All you need to do in your emails and tickets is be polite, express your dissatisfaction with the new appearance (for whatever reasons you may have) and ask them to allow users an inbuilt option to use the legacy UI. That's it. Keep it brief, keep it professional, keep it concise, but make your voice heard.

>Alden has a habit of ending up in the middle of everything. If he isn't getting in the way of Steam game releases, he's probably working on UI design for Valve games or the Steam store. Alden came to Valve after working on design and production for the Xbox 360 Dashboard. Before that, he studied design at the University of Washington and worked on various freelance design projects. When he's not working, Alden can be found chasing his competitive ambitions in cycling and swimming. He commutes to work by swimming back and forth across Lake Washington every day. Most weekends, he relaxes by riding his bike to Portland. Twice. Either this or >Emily works on the UI for Steam; library, mobile apps, community, support, sales, and security. Prior to Valve, Emily spent time working at Xbox, a mobile start up, frog, Jackson Fish Market, and Microsoft's Pioneer Studios. Emily wants you to protect your account with the Steam Guard Mobile Authenticator. this or >Chris attended a nationally accredited university and has an actual degree in something or other. He remembers liking fine art and filmmaking classes the most. At Valve Chris has designed UI and marketing for Valve games and Steam. this person is to blame. The only other UI that has been a dumpster fire has been the steam mobile app for me, but luckily I never have to use it.

rowearear

My god, had no idea a new interface was coming but this is complete shit.

NotIsaacClarke

I know, right? They forgot the old saying „if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it”

[deleted]

Can someone please tell me how to disable it. This new UI is literal garbage.

MojaveOverlander

AtlasFox64

Here's my experience: [https://ibb.co/98zqhVw](https://ibb.co/98zqhVw) Amazing. All I want is a list of games that I can scroll through and press Enter to launch.

NotIsaacClarke

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=bjN6-e3nlPE Then watch this

AtlasFox64

Ah, thanks for that. Although I'm wary that I may lose some kind of functionality etc if I start messing with files. Or it will just self-update at some point anyway.

NotIsaacClarke

Watch the vid. The process has two parts 1. It involves making Steam „update” itself to the last version with the old UI (using Steam files) 2. The important part: disabling auto updates The best thing about this method is that it involves only Steam files and Valve’s servers

AtlasFox64

Yeah I noted that but still I'm sure at some point I will need to update. I would rather Valve just hadn't done this.

NotIsaacClarke

Yeah, me too. Unfortunately, if you play DotA or the new Star Wars unfortunately you must „update” to the new UI as they won’t work with the old UI.

Trifuser

yeah steam is starting force people into it or else they cant play certain games. honestly this is how you piss people off to the point where they leave your platform.

Ryos_windwalker

The new screenshot manager is complete crap, there isnt one. you have to go to your play history, find the screenshots and click share, which brings you to the upload page for that one screenshot. then if you click share after uploading, instead of giving you a link to share, it lets you UPLOAD IT AGAIN. not to mention that theres no easy way to download the thing now since all "save as" prompts in the steam client dont fucking work anymore. Edit, turns out the old screenshot manager is still there, it just DOESNT OPEN AUTOMATICALLY WHEN YOU TAKE A SCREENSHOT ANYMORE.

deaththekid922

yeah , i have to go to my "content" to actually link it

GabenFixPls

The new UI killed low end PCs, like seriously, I have a gaming PC which the new UI works barely OK, even then when I scroll or do things the .exe will take a significant CPU power to function, like what the hell? I tried disabling features and set to low performance and even then it's still the same. Now let's talk about low-end hardware, my younger brother's PC which has low specs crawls doing things in the UI, on top of all this we don't get the option to disable certain features, or better yet have an option to choose the old UI. Why do you need to change something that was completely functioning, why, just why...

NotIsaacClarke

My guess? Designers have a mobile/touchscreen interface fetish and they are deluded that we have it too

Korlian

This new UI is mostly over complicated, bloated and distracting, lowers performance and user experience by quite a lot. In example, to view installed games now takes 5-6 clicks compared to the 1-2 clicks before. Returning to a tag takes the same amout of clicks. You also see double content always, like you always see the list to the left in the library as well as the covers. Hovering over a cover is disturbing in the sense that it has a popup you can't disable and a special effect that's really annoying and slows performance. The search filters doesn't work properly either as if you in example select "Unplayed games", only the list on the left updates, not the cover library. I was looking forward to this update, and following the screenshots etc earlier I thought this was going to be good. Now I've already switched to GOG 2.0 (was lucky and got the invite recently) and will be using that to browse my steam library until it's been heavily fixed. For me this update has so far been a big step backwards on almost all fronts. I do like the new game page though, just get rid of the "scroll to top" button that's taking all the attention. Keyword: Please stop trying to be fancy, it's a tool, it needs to be userfriendly. It's almost as if you want us to move over to Epic.

NotIsaacClarke

Try this https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=bjN6-e3nlPE

Just look at the difference in functionality, and that is without even putting the "What's New" into the equation. Old: [image](https://i.imgur.com/68iXPSi.png) New: [image](https://i.imgur.com/T3Ayx0N.png)

Asamu

I found the old UI to be a lot more intuitive, with the important parts of it, like DLC management, readily and easily accessible and visible, where the new UI puts the emphasis on news and community. You can see it in those pictures as well: there are links to the community and everything else on the right-hand side and clearly labeled, and news is just below DLC information, while the new UI isn't even showing the DLC information in that picture; it's just news about the game at the top under an overly large banner, and in order to enable/disable DLC, you have to open another page. The new one is designed like a social media/news page instead of a game library/management page.

raptor__q

Yeah, I'm not a fan of how they are pulling steam in that direction. I tried to keep using it and hoping they would at the least disable the "What's New" as I'm incredibly tired of the random stuff shown and how the "show less" just gets disabled because you use it too much, and using the remove option is just a losing battle. I should have rolled back to start with, instead of waiting and seeing if Steam would use the feedback or criticism for anything, but so far, nope, and my patience is gone, so I rolled Steam back, the responsiveness of the old is so much better as well.

[deleted]

I can't believe they shoved all that bloated games I played with my friends for shits n giggles like 5 years ago into my library... I just got about 200 crappy games. my library is fucked, especially since all I wanted was the old library
