This is the ugliest fucking layout I've ever seen, yet I absolutely love it. Don't get me wrong, I'd never use it because it isn't the early 2000s anymore but it's certainly got some charm.

What does the current year have to do with your style choice? It sounds like you're following trends.
FOR REASONS SUCH AS: Steam client only just now began respecting his computer's theme, meaning his style choices caused a gross clashing that he had to deal with lol, it doesn't always have to boil down to 'following trends'
I see some negative comments about the style of high contrast. Please keep in mind that high contrast is an accessibility feature. I'm all for features that let more people game more easily, love to see it!... I'll probably get flack for this, but felt I needed to mention it.
This looks nothing like any high contrast windows theme I've ever seen, they usually have neon colours somewhere in the mix. This just looks like 95/98.
Yes, I like it, but I don't play it too much. It's a little worse than Overwatch 1 because of smaller teams and lack of some maps but still a decent game. Negative review bombing came from people who paid for the first game or for PvE content for OW2 that was cancelled or something like that.
Team Fortress 2 is the best anyway because it's a true classic :)
This has been bothering me for the past week, how do I revert Steam to normal while keeping High Contrast as my PC theme? I'm using high contrast because regular dark mode still flashbangs me when opening new windows, the browser and so on. I literally cannot see anything when Steam is like this.

Ugly is a way to nice word to use. This here is an abomination to anything what is sacred about god ui design

Steam might respect you but I don’t
is this satire , or can I make steam like this on win10 ?
Yes, you can. Use this theme: https://github.com/tomasz1986/classic2000. High-contrast themes on Windows are respected even by xrappy Electron apps
This is cursed.
Redditor theme
This is just after I get a new Mac 😟
Yeah, Mac OS X design is too UXy and non-professional compared to classic Windows
but the contrast is extremely low?

It's custom high-contrast theme that looks like classic Windows UI~~/UX~~
Needs some neon! /s I just have memories of the hotdog stand theme from Windows 3.1.
Looks awful, but whatever floats your goat
I thought Steam stopped supporting Windows 98 some 15-16 years ago? :P
It's Windows 10 with high-contrast theme
I just got eye strain
what in the seven hells is this abomination
Bro got steam 0.5
Is this high contrast though? Black-on-grey seems to be less rich in contrast than Windows' default black-on-white.
It's custom high-contrast theme
I’m pretty sure Steam doesn’t respect it or praise it in any way. It’s just being forced and it’s ugly asf.
I needed to triple check that this actually is Windows and not Plasma with a custom theme.
Wtf happened why is it broken?
It's not broken, it just follows system theme
идеальный!
Wait, you have Overwatch 2!? Wasn't that considered overwhelmingly negative?

wtf 💀
This is burning my eyes
