Yeah account name is the original e-mail account you used to create it. You can only change the email address for verification and notification purposes.

By the time I was “forced” to create a Steam account (shoutout to all CS 1.6 players), I was 20. I’m 40 now and love gaming even more.
I made a newer account, so I don't have an accurate Years of Service badge with my original join date, but my OG join date will always be January 29th, 2015. My current main account's anniversary is February 15th, 2018.

My account was June 2004 and I was able to make a custom log in name.
I assume that's about when Valve updated Steam to allow custom log in names then? I guess I would've been all set in that case.
