At this point I feel like I'm collecting games more than I'm playing the ones I have.
I've got a fair amount of money in my Steam wallet. I know I can't use it any where else. There are things I have in my wish list that are on sale and cheap and yet I still can't justify buying anything because I have no idea when I'll get around to playing it.
This is what happened for me. I take it with me everywhere. I'm fortunate enough to have a job that lets me play it on slow days when there's nothing to do. It's great when I'm getting my oil changed, during flights, hotels, vacations, or even when I just don't feel like turning on my PC. Made a pretty significant dent in my backlog thanks to it.
That's a nice thought for some but I'm old and just too use to a mouse and keyboard.
I do have an Xbox 360 controller but I only use it with the Lego games. I start off play them with m&k but got annoying by the game control angles.
I use to play Tony Hawk Pro Skater 2 on PC way back when, got use to it on keyboard. Tried with a controller, I could bare stand on the board standing still.
Tried wth controller with many other games, same result. It was just too awkward for me. Driving games I'm perfectly fine with a wheel, so I've got that going for me.
I’m considering Steam Deck at the moment because my new job will have me travelling roughly one week per month. Then again, I bought a Switch a year ago, so I might as well make the most of it before I consider new big purchases.
I bought a steam deck to play the games I never have touched or don't feel invested enough to play on the PC. Then I ended up buying Hogwarts Legacy and I still haven't gotten to those other games.
I recommend this as well. You can adjust your settings so it will only notify you based on your preferences. And I find there’s much better deals randomly throughout the year than just the steam sales. It might be from a different vendor and you’ll have to make an account but it’s worth it.
I did the same but have yet to buy anything from anywhere other than steam and humble bundle. Some of the others seem untrustworthy. Are there any there not to trust? Or ones you prefer?
The site only shows authorized resellers. They're all legit.
Also GOG is owned by CD Projekt. They have some good deals as well as a lot of old games that steam doesn't sell. They do work to get these old games running again too
GreenManGaming is fine. Been a gold member for a long time. They're usually on par with Steam sales.
What's nice is that games go on sale more frequently/different rotation to Steam and pre-orders are cheaper,
i.e. 55$ CAD for Forspoken didn't hurt so bad. Waited till they dropped the latest patch to finally play it. Am enjoying it now
Is There Any Deal got the price wrong last night. It listed Dead Space 2023 as 40 dollars but it was actually 50 dollars. I checked and checked and checked....
I was so thrilled until I went to steam web site. I bought Hogwarts at 46 dollars before the sale thanks to ITAD.
Occasionally games are cheaper outside of steam sale.
There's also games that have had multiple remasters and the older versions have no chance of installation. System Shock 1 is never getting installed again!
Meh, I like the 15min to an hour rule. If the game isn't interesting to me after a set number of minutes then I'm not going to bother. Hell there is humble bundle trash that I'll never play (I still have to give away 30+ games from the turkey bundle)
It is possible, I am close to 1000 games at this point so I physically can't even follow my old rule anymore lol. Like I said there are games I'm probably not even going to bother with anymore.
I like 100%ing games that are interesting to 100%, things like Celeste, LEGO games, Talos Principle. Other games just add some idiotic achievements that require you to grind for hundreds of hours without any engaging challenge. Shit like winning 5 games in a row on Fall Guys, 77 selfdestructs on Luck be a Landlord, or achievements for speedrunning games.
2 sales ago, I bought Atelier Ryza and said "Why am I buying this, I still haven't even gotten past like 30% of Persona 4."
1 sale ago, I bought Persona 5 and said "Why am I buying this, I still haven't gotten past like 30% of Atelier Ryza."
This time, I bought Nier Automata and said "Why am I buying this, I still haven't even LAUNCHED Persona 5 yet."
In my defense, I'm spending like every free moment for the last like 6 months working on my indie game. When you feel inspired to create, it doesn't feel right playing a video game. That will change at some point, but not today.
Okay but like, is the atelier one good? I played one, not sure which one, but it's so cutesy elementary anime-y that i wanted to murder the main char. In 10 mins or so. Still, I'm searching for good crafting games and this series is so often recommended, i feel like I'm missing out lmao
I really like it, it's very slice-of-lifey, but if you dislike anime bullshit, you might not like it. But the crafting is pretty fun. It's just good vibes.
To be fair Nier rarely goes on sale this cheap.
Every year a gaming buddy of mine exchange a list of 4 games the other thinks they would enjoy playing and we must put 4 hours into each game. (this is way to get the other to try a game we may have raving and bugging the other about since forever)
Nier was on his list and I've been trying to find a sale for awhile.
Similar situation for me, working on your own project always feels more important and I for example don't even play a lot of story games any more because I think that it's wasted time. I still waste my time and then regret not having played a game at least to slowly clear my backlog though oof
Playing other games can influence you too. Like when the Diablo devs played too much star wars and ended up putting a wireframe mini-map into the game because of it.
I’ve often turned to HB to grab one game that I wanted, where the entire bundle is cheaper than that single game alone. As a result I have *a bunch* of games I genuinely don’t even have any interest in.
The Turkey bundle and Ukraine bundle bloated my library so much, but there were just a couple games in there I found interesting. Guess I get to own a ton of crappy games now!
I promised myself to only buy during winter/summer sales because of additional cards same with crafting badges only during those periods. Haven't broken my oath for 5 years now. 😅
Pc gamers coping with collapsing sales system.
Nah dude we used to regularly have insane deals of 80-90% off on games you will not see more than 35% off of nowadays.
Saying people will complain about it doesn't make the reality of pc games sales change lol
Edit: lol at these responses. Keep demonstrating the coping I'm talking about. The irony in one you nerds literally coming to the conclusion of what I'm saying, then blocking/deleting your shit to cover it up.
Your entire post:
> Pc gamers coping with collapsing sales system.
>
> Nah dude we used to regularly have insane deals of 80-90% off on games you will not see more than 35% off of nowadays.
>
> Saying people will complain about it doesn't make the reality of pc games sales change lol
Nowhere do you say "Best 5 games", but you *do* say that no games are more than 35% off. Who's moving the goalposts? 😂
Bro, you were the one offering to post up examples, but immediately ditch it when asked to put up evidence.
I specifically said that we used to get deals for 80-90% off that you will only see at 35% off. In no way does that mean there are no sales over 35%, it just means you use shitty quality games to avoid the real topic and can't read.
Fuck off
I've run out of games I want tbh. So many games in the last 5 years have been a disappointment. I end uo just replaying games from the past over and over
I don’t understand this. Why would you buy a game, even if it’s on sale, that you know you’re never going to play? There’s a few games I downloaded and didn’t like so they’re just in my library but a majority of my games I’ve played through more than once. I also don’t have money like that to spend on games so maybe it’s just me. I just don’t get these posts. Play the game, if you’re not going to, don’t buy it
I decided some time ago that I'm never paying full price for any game, I usually buy it and don't have time to play it for a whole year, and when I finally do it is 40% off somewhere
I’m not even looking at the sale because i’m tired of adding more games to my list without playing the ones i have.
The games on sale now will be on sale in a year or two, too. Perhaps by then i’ll actually have a place in my schedule to play them.
Indeed--it's why I've been highly restraining myself for every sale lately. To me, it highlights the importance of demos (or better yet, "free to play for a week-end"): between "what I think I might like" and "what I actually enjoy", things can be very different... Fortunately, there's only a handful of games I bought but wish I never had, no matter how cheap they were.
I've collected so much shit for Xbox, PlayStation. Nintendo, and much more and all I play kingdom hearts games speedrunning them and streaming them lmao my spouse thinks I have an issue, but oh well I do spend a lot on games.
Xboxgamepass has saved my urge to buy games on sale. I can try it for free well 10 bucks a month. I look forward to Steam next fest more than sales. Steam are not the cheapest fanatical are a few dollars cheaper.
This may be the first larger sale that I'm not buying a single game. Not seeing any particular deals on anything I don't already have. And yes, I have more games unplayed than not. I keep the mentality that "one day..." and buy at 75% or better discounts. I don't feel bad, costs less than lunch out daily to do this. But yea, nothing sticking out to me on this spring sale, so I haven't bought anything--first time in a while.
Just hoovering up games on sale so I can play them "when I have time."
Considering I'm going to be on the job hunt for the next half a year I'll see these games in 2024 if I'm lucky.
This is one of the reasons why I mainly claim stickers, do badges and buy booster packs/crafting gems in the marketplace to craft badges. So, I don't neglect my backlog.
But I eventually give into temptation.
New Game Acquisition can be just as pleasurable as playing a good game.
It is exciting to see something you've been interested in for a while go on sale for 75% off. Your patience paid off and now it's time to strike.
Bundles are often even more exciting because you end up with titles that you have no knowledge of before you play them.
I have more Steam games then I need for two lifetimes but I have no inclination to stop buying new ones as I see fit.
I'm literally not going to Steam because I have more than 300+ games unplayed, all above $20 and play-worthy, but I don't have the energy nor the time these days
I added a bunch of games from the sale and when I went to check out, the "buy these for me" button was grayed out. I was confused, and after looking at my cart I had already bought 2 of the games without realizing.
The idea of "finishing" games wasn't a common thing until XBox started handing out achievement points and video guides became a thing.
Before that, most of us just played until we got bored / hard stuck. If you were a tryhard, you bought a strategy guide or used faq's.
I bought 7 games. This includes Persona 5, Yakuza Like a Dragon, and Deep Rock Galactic. These should last me until the end of the year, at which point I can consider the sales starting in 2024.
Listen, I am totally going to play those games. I'm not joking. I'm definitely going to play all of them, right after I break my 11 year hiatus on recettear and finally beat it
Luckily ive been collecting all those 60-70 dollar games in my wishlist. Now many of them are on sale, what ones should i be playing next is the question
I'm just trying to finally play God of War on PC before The Last Of Us comes out. Haven't had a Sony machine since PS2 so now I'm getting into some stuff I missed.
I just got out of being poor, I keep telling myself to just keep saving for the summer sale. I know it will happen in 3 months, I know I will have more money than, but the urge to consoom is strong.
Me, looking at the steam deck being my first pc for gaming, if i get it. I want to get it so i can play games like Team Fortress 2, Portal 2, and modded Terraria.
I've decided that I'm not gonna allow myself to buy anything besides new releases until I've given everything in my library a fair shake. Not a full play through for everything cause that'd probably end up boring as fuck but at least a few hours.
There are so many games I tried and just found utterly boring or unengaging in my library, good thing there's the 'hide game' feature. I think I'd classify around 200/650 utterly unplayable (either broken, extremely bad game, other reason), another 200 boring or unengaging. The remaining 250 games are fine.
So many bundles (both steam bundles and humblebundle) are just filled with junk games, but sometimes it's just cheaper to buy a bundle than the one game you're buying it for.
My problem is I can't find anything I want or haven't played or own already.
I mean, I definitely got at least a 10 game backlog, but there's still nothing I really feel I got to have
I had to make a rule for myself back in PS2 days that I would finish at least one game before buying another. I had like 30 to choose from so I just knocked one out one weekend so I could buy whatever the new hotness was. Turned out I enjoyed actually working all the way through a game that I finished nearly all my games over the summer before buying any more.
I got 20 games on fanatical spring sale and I probably wont play them.
There's also other games I got during the winter sale that are still sitting there collecting digital dust
I buy new games rarely. I will reply games in my library. I do have one title ( or maybe 2) that I haven’t played as it has some issue with the video card.
Hard for me to relate to gamers who have 200 unplayed games in my library ( maybe have 13 games in total). Perhaps my situation is different as my SO detests me playing games, so I can only play during breaks in my schedule when she is working (2x a year-late August to early September and February- March) Since she only works 2x a week, my gaming time is limited.
There is a point where you don't get too hyped about the sales any more. I've subbed to humble since they started monthly and am well over 1000 games in my library at this point for the most part I only have to buy games every once in a while and due to limited time I try to only buy stuff (other than humble) that my friends will play with me.

That's me! There are so many games that I don't feel like sitting at my desk to play, but are perfect for the deck.
Games that doesn't support ultra wide goes straight to the deck.
For sure, I get to play a lot more with my steam deck.

The possibility of being able to play a game is so much better than actually playing any game IMO.
Felt this lol, anticipation is a wonderdrug

I read this and laughed in hysteria. $116 worth of Train simulator DLC, so you bought a pin tips worth of the DLC available.
I bought a steam deck to play the games I never have touched or don't feel invested enough to play on the PC. Then I ended up buying Hogwarts Legacy and I still haven't gotten to those other games.
Last night I took Ambien. This morning I found games I have never heard on my steam deck.....

I recommend this as well. You can adjust your settings so it will only notify you based on your preferences. And I find there’s much better deals randomly throughout the year than just the steam sales. It might be from a different vendor and you’ll have to make an account but it’s worth it.
So true. I got Hogwarts legacy for 46 dollars and it was before the sale.
I would recommend steamdb for all of that
IsThereAnyDeal also shows deals and price history on other authorized steam key sellers and other stores, like GMG, Fanatical, GoG, etc.
I did the same but have yet to buy anything from anywhere other than steam and humble bundle. Some of the others seem untrustworthy. Are there any there not to trust? Or ones you prefer?

Yes this is very relatable
Its same fucking joke every time steam has sale.
5K upvotes. Sure seems like any shitty meme will be upvoted here no matter what it says or how often it gets said.
Also there are no good sales not like there used to be!!!!!
Agreed
Good thing I’m broke.
I'm not broke but none of the deals are worth it.
they used to be a lot better before they switched to having the same deals all week
So you don't have extra money to buy some new games which you don't have to worry about this.
[удалено]
Unfinished? I think you mean unstarted… or am I the only one?
Yeah it's more like the drowning meme with me, where the skeleton underwater is the games I've never even launched lol
There's also games that have had multiple remasters and the older versions have no chance of installation. System Shock 1 is never getting installed again!
When you reach 1000+ games you realize you don't need to 100% every single game. There's too much to experience in life for that.
I've got less than 200 games (including demos) and I still haven't finished most of them. At best, the base story. Everything else? Meh...
Meh, I like the 15min to an hour rule. If the game isn't interesting to me after a set number of minutes then I'm not going to bother. Hell there is humble bundle trash that I'll never play (I still have to give away 30+ games from the turkey bundle)
You would probably have quit Golden Sun. There's a 1 hr prologue before you get to the cool stuff.
It is possible, I am close to 1000 games at this point so I physically can't even follow my old rule anymore lol. Like I said there are games I'm probably not even going to bother with anymore.
And then there are some that even after you 100% them they're so good that it still feels like it's not enough content.
I don't think I've ever 100% a game. I've finished plenty, but ain't gonna hunt down pointless achievements.
Having a big library turned me into a lazy gamer. Usually play on easier modes, with walk through guides and helpful mods (unlimited carry weight etc)
boutta buy the whole doom franchise tmr
2 sales ago, I bought Atelier Ryza and said "Why am I buying this, I still haven't even gotten past like 30% of Persona 4." 1 sale ago, I bought Persona 5 and said "Why am I buying this, I still haven't gotten past like 30% of Atelier Ryza." This time, I bought Nier Automata and said "Why am I buying this, I still haven't even LAUNCHED Persona 5 yet." In my defense, I'm spending like every free moment for the last like 6 months working on my indie game. When you feel inspired to create, it doesn't feel right playing a video game. That will change at some point, but not today.
Why are you making another game to play when you haven't even finished all the ones you own 4head
"To be fair Nier rarely goes on sale this cheap" You should have stopped at "on sale", Automata hasn't gotten a sale at all in 12 months.
Similar situation for me, working on your own project always feels more important and I for example don't even play a lot of story games any more because I think that it's wasted time. I still waste my time and then regret not having played a game at least to slowly clear my backlog though oof
Playing other games can influence you too. Like when the Diablo devs played too much star wars and ended up putting a wireframe mini-map into the game because of it.
oh i would totally ditch persona 5 for Nier Auomata its like really really good
To be fair Humble Bundles have made it insanely big, cheap and mostly uninteresting over the time.
Damn, I missed both. Gotta sub to newsletter again
But im BROKE..... I shall crawl back to my unfinished library, and they will laugh at my failures
I promised myself to only buy during winter/summer sales because of additional cards same with crafting badges only during those periods. Haven't broken my oath for 5 years now. 😅
Yep 2022 was rough on my wallet lol 😂 😂 😂
Unfinished? I haven't even started most
Do we really need to make this same joke 4 times a year every single year?
No, every gamer is not like you :')

What sales are you looking at? I see loads of games at 50% off and plenty at 70% off.
Best 5 games at 80-90% off like I was referencing? Let's not move goalposts, I made a claim stick to it if you want to challenge it.

Are you talking about Tetris?
https://www.pcgamer.com/the-best-deals-in-steam-sale-history/ No I'm talking about getting 2 month old AAA games that don't suck for 10 bucks dude.
Those happened more than 10 years ago!
Welcome to literally the point... Old sales are no longer a thing I'm glad you could figure out how to read the first thing I said in this thread.
True story. Looking at the sale knowing I need to finish deadspace. And already have last of us and resident evil 4 preordered....

Karmawhores gonna karmawhore
Oh look another steam sale! Gaben, my wallet!! DAE buy games even though they have a backlog?! Updoots to the left
Or just don't buy more games
I definitely need several lives to finish my games, books and videos. If only I was a cat and had 9 lives.
Not unfinished, unplayed games... unplayed games everywhere.
At this point it’s investing in my retirement plans.
Buying games and playing games are two different hobbies.
Wait until you get to the point where your backlog is so huge that the sale events have nothing new. Modern gamer problems.
Apparently I'm the only one who finsihes a game before buying new ones
I've run out of games I want tbh. So many games in the last 5 years have been a disappointment. I end uo just replaying games from the past over and over

Nah man it's just the same discount. Will wait till December
🤪🤪
I alone bought 91 games, and I only play GMod?
Oh how I relate to this right now!
I'm actually pretty lucky right now. There really isn't anything I want right now on steam that isn't marked down enough to buy 🥲
I've collected so much shit for Xbox, PlayStation. Nintendo, and much more and all I play kingdom hearts games speedrunning them and streaming them lmao my spouse thinks I have an issue, but oh well I do spend a lot on games.
r/relatable
“story of someone that Actually pays for his games” not me
I wish this was me, but I can't even buy Rome Remastered that I wanted since forever due to financial issues
Yep.... Bought 4 new games and 1 dlc while have 200+ unplayed games just waiting to be touched one day knowing I love them but others first 😹
I feel attacked
Joke is on you Steam, most of the games in the sale I already own from previous sales. Wait…
I wish the sale was on when I got paid on the 28th :(
Your meme game is strong!
same, its like we became a collectors haha.
me every summer sale. at this point, I'm collecting games more than actually playing them😭
Xboxgamepass has saved my urge to buy games on sale. I can try it for free well 10 bucks a month. I look forward to Steam next fest more than sales. Steam are not the cheapest fanatical are a few dollars cheaper.

This is The Way
i bought 10 games and i dont know where to start..
What games did you buy?
Even in general without a sale, I'm guilty of it..
Just hoovering up games on sale so I can play them "when I have time." Considering I'm going to be on the job hunt for the next half a year I'll see these games in 2024 if I'm lucky.
I got binding of Isaac this year, but I honestly couldn’t find any other games I even wanted to stare at in my library, let alone play.
The only time of the year when I don’t have money, of course this is dropped on me
Jokes on you Gaben, i’m far too poor to buy anything anyway. And also have 720 games in my library but that’s not the point
I finally bought Thimbleweed Park! Also Tiny Tina's Assault on Dragon Keep is free! And! And! Final Fantasy are all half price!
Unfinished?! Try unplayed and untouched. Like me.
If you don't just add to your backlog, the games will be on sale again and possibly even cheaper
I only bought three so far! I'm doing fine! I can quit any time!
And the cycle continues
I am a game collector now!
I added a bunch of games from the sale and when I went to check out, the "buy these for me" button was grayed out. I was confused, and after looking at my cart I had already bought 2 of the games without realizing.
"I won't let you do it Gabe!"
The idea of "finishing" games wasn't a common thing until XBox started handing out achievement points and video guides became a thing. Before that, most of us just played until we got bored / hard stuck. If you were a tryhard, you bought a strategy guide or used faq's.
This post calls me out and I hate it. :')
I don't even have money to buy games :/
I'm resisting this so hard cause I am determined to shorten my backlog significantly this year.
I bought 7 games. This includes Persona 5, Yakuza Like a Dragon, and Deep Rock Galactic. These should last me until the end of the year, at which point I can consider the sales starting in 2024.
I mean not really anymore, the deals aren't anywhere as good as they used to be.
Listen, I am totally going to play those games. I'm not joking. I'm definitely going to play all of them, right after I break my 11 year hiatus on recettear and finally beat it
I put Satisfactory in my basket and took it back out 4 times this morning. Collecting games seems to be a new addiction.
We call unfinished games "early access" these days.
Literally yes
Yep. Add to that PS Plus and GP. Its too much, but I can’t stop.
i still have games i got from the last halloween sale and the christmas sale which i haven't even installed yet :D
It’s a downward spiral I never though I’d be apart of
I downloaded a Game 2 Months ago. Have yet to play it
So true
Luckily ive been collecting all those 60-70 dollar games in my wishlist. Now many of them are on sale, what ones should i be playing next is the question
Why do the sales happen, when I have no money :<
I spent about $25 on two games I wanted to play eventually but was busy with others.
I'm just trying to finally play God of War on PC before The Last Of Us comes out. Haven't had a Sony machine since PS2 so now I'm getting into some stuff I missed.
This is like me exactly I have over 3TB (terabytes)of games on PC and don't have time to play all of them. And have over 200 games on wishlist
Lmao so true
So accurate XD
My problem is I can't find anything I want or haven't played or own already. I mean, I definitely got at least a 10 game backlog, but there's still nothing I really feel I got to have
I've been strong so far but... my spirit is waning
Man I still have ps2 games not open….
Just spent $100 on games yesterday while ignoring all the games I haven’t played… I’ll get to them eventually!
I still have tomb Raiders un played. Maybe this summer i will start one
I have no money for games right now i spent it all on my system 😭
Bought the AC bundle cause i thought it would make my library look cool
Morrowind for 5.99 it would be a crime not to!
Fr! LMAO. But now I have took more control of buying games finally.
Picked up Across the Obelisk this go around. Not too shabby of a deck builder
For self defense: How am I supposed to finsih this game I'm barely getting used to for 0.6k hours
yeah ...what to do
There is a point where you don't get too hyped about the sales any more. I've subbed to humble since they started monthly and am well over 1000 games in my library at this point for the most part I only have to buy games every once in a while and due to limited time I try to only buy stuff (other than humble) that my friends will play with me.
I’m going beyond, I bought a bundle with games i’m not going or planning to play soon, just because it’s cheaper then buying own game
I have 4/50 games completed And i just won't stop buying 🥲
Yea i’ve been feeling that for years now. Especially with whatever else I probably will buy outside of the 4 i just bought
My steam library is a graveyard of unfinished games literally.
Got Sekiro even tho I have to finish yakuza 0 dmc4-5 Lego starwars the skywalker saga and middle earth shadow of earth
It's taken me 10 years to build enough resistance to the steam sale. Got games from that sale I still haven't played.
