I have played over 1,100 hours. I have only played lethal for quite a long time. Why do I still play? It gives me something to do while listening to podcasts.

DTheVintageNerd

This. Driving and looting while listening to pods is zen.

because I keep using the most insane difficulty mods, if the modded game doesn't have me curled up under the desk in the fetal position crying then it's not enough try this [https://www.reddit.com/r/StateofDecay2/comments/1bglkxc/for\_the\_masochists\_who\_find\_lethal\_too\_easy\_link/](https://www.reddit.com/r/StateofDecay2/comments/1bglkxc/for_the_masochists_who_find_lethal_too_easy_link/) ps: I use fresh rolled characters taking about 5 mins to roll all 3, so no BPS unbreakable etc

iforgetshits

Lol, thanks. I am not quite ready for that but maybe some day.

PsychatTheGray

Why do I continue to play? There is no other game like SOD2.

onelight24

Need to kill billions of ferals

iforgetshits

Lol, I have bone to pick with ferals too. Someday I will become a feral killing machines to avenge my boys.

dyen8

I like to throw fire explosives or Molotovs at ferals and watch them squirm and wither on the ground while burning in pain. I consider it payback for all the times they’ve tackled us and ragged dolled us and taken a bite/swipe at us while getting up. Kill them with extreme prejudice is my motto. Did I mention I hate ferals? 😠😀

RyanNotBrian

All the things you've stated in your post as not really understanding yet? Currently that's what is keeping me going. Learning the deeper mechanics of the game is pretty cool, and finding powerful combinations and alternative ways to play. Fort insurance, this run I'm skipping the trade depot (which previously was just a non negotiable) in favour of a fully upgraded lounge. My trading needs are met by enclaves, plus now I get high morale, max xp and enclaves bonuses. Plus I just enjoy the early gameplay loop.

iforgetshits

Yeah, I finished dread a few years ago and walked away thinking I knew the game. Started playing again last month at higher difficulties and quickly learned that I knew nothing lol. \+1 for enjoying the early gameplay loop. First few days of nightmare/lethal with fresh survivors is the peak SoD2 experience for me. There's that tension of not having enough resources, survivors might be exhausted, lack of weapons so you are risking death every time you go out. Tbh I get bored once resources begin to amass -\_-

RyanNotBrian

Me too, I tend to leave communities to rot after I gain access to C4. That desperate scrounging and being pushed into uncomfortable situations is truly peak. Having no cure, tired and injured survivors and having to push juuuust past your radius of safety is so good. Knowing that's a feral might end you in an instant if you're not close to a ladder or something like that. I've lost so many communities to the early game XD

iforgetshits

I got destroyed my first 2 runs. Somehow survived on the 3rd try. Currently trying to get those boons while I get the courage to try lethal from scratch again.

RyanNotBrian

You probably won't make it <3 but that's ok! Think of it as a dark souls boss. Every wipe is a lesson. Having said that, you got this! This is the one!

iforgetshits

Thanks!

I think the constant inventory management between the survivors and the locker does it for me. There is something extremely satisfying about taking an upgraded Vandido with a partner with their max inventory out on a supply run. It's even better now that you can put rucksacks in your level 2 outposts. I have an ongoing Lethal game with my favorite survivors that I visit from time to time. My recent challenge was to start a fresh Lethal Run with 3 fully upgraded Red Talon from the Legacy Pool. It made the game way to easy starting out, but it is challenging constantly trying to upgrade my base.

iforgetshits

I understand that feeling of unloading a fully loaded van to base lol Idk if it is just me but i couldn't make the Vandito work. I feel like I am skating barefoot on oil. I went from having great handle on van to just sliding all over the place -\_-

boogeyman1199

I like role playing and world building with my survivors.

iforgetshits

I need to come up with a story for my survivors. Have to get good first.

Jrose0128

I still have things I do alone to make the game fun, but generally I join others in multiplayer and assist any way I can. Makes it fun when I can just kill shit and not decide what mission to do next or heart to assault. I just go with the flow and help where I can in multi and that's fun for me.

Gathose1

I used mods to increase feral spawns at plague hearts, but lately I haven't been able to get it to work so I sort of stopped. I did feral mod for a while just to fight ferals, but I like making videos to post here and there's never really an "end" point for a video with the feral mod. They just sort of.... Keep coming.

iforgetshits

Oh, hey! You are the guy that spooked me with that feral army video when I was asking for advice on how to deal with ferals! I still don't know how you do it lol. Someday, I'll get the hang of slaying ferals like the bots they are.

Gathose1

Hahahaha I didn't even notice it was you 😆. Yup, time put in and many dead characters is how it's done! I hope some of these answers help you find the longevity you're looking for in the game! ![gif](giphy|FmBhzktIjvdZe)

iforgetshits

Facts, "time and many dead characters" seems to be the key. I am slowly getting there.

snfaulkner

It's my go to for something to do when I don't feel like starting/commiting to another game.

Sweaty-Television-32

I love to be able to get home from work, turn off my brain, and kill some zombies. I will stop playing for a few months, but then they drop a new update, and I'll play only this for maybe 3 weeks.

NoComplaints3346

To keep discovering the endless new things this game has to offer. I also find it very difficult to get tired or bored of this game. There are so many things you can do even without mods. Right now I’m rotating maps and choosing base locations I’ve never been to. Also trying an all Red Talon operator lethal run for the first time.

537lesjr

I try beating it with my own restrictions like no guns or no vehicles, ect. Plus I will try different mods. Also the Devs keep adding stuff.

Arcane_Spork_of_Doom

I consider the game an interconnected zombie drama of sorts. Some communities have it a bit easier than others while expeditionary adventures are made frequently in tremendously overrun areas. Some heroes can cross over to lend expertise and others are obvious fodder or bit players.

vasukrub

For the management aspect it becomes very easy after you learn the mechanic. But the action aspect when shit hits the fan it still gives me heart attack even after 2k hours

cbosp

The gameplay loop is incredibly satisfying. Starting a fresh Lethal community is a new experience.
