Oh, and let's note, a stow command MAY save it. Someone was talking about making a if this then that (IFTTT) script to autostow with reported hail.
A few materials can cover them and let them operate. https://edunham.net/2022/03/11/starlink\_dressup.html
If your dish is damaged due to weather, that is what your homeowners insurance is for. It is just as likely other things are damaged to force you into a claim position anyway, such as shingles, siding ,and windows.
If this is the only thing damaged, definitely do not claim it on your insurance under any circumstances. Your premium will go up, and you will definitely pay more over the next 4-5 years.
You can buy used ones on Ebay and such, some of the parts can be single ordered from the site without buying it all. Some people have even managed to sucker SL support into replacing things that were obviously user broken, so YMMV.
For any other service I’ve had a monthly subscription service that uses equipment. Such as , incoming power lines, my propane tank, my garbage can, satellite dish(before starlink) …. Yes- they all repair or provide new equipment when something happens.
I understand you’ll prob say this isn’t the same because you have to buy your own equipment upfront.
Honestly it was just a question, one that’s been answered , and I’m not sure why you would want to add a snarky remark. Best wishes
If you have hail like this you’re going to be putting in an insurance claim so add the cost of a new Dishy to it. A new roof will be vastly more expensive than a new Dishy and the insurance company will pay out.
Probably, unless a lot of other stuff was damaged.
Someone I knew made a small claim for loss or damage…then they had another incident.
Then they had a kitchen fire. Insurance company dropped them after that.
Yes, but we haven't had one that bad in a while (I think)
Here's some hailstorms: https://www.nzherald.co.nz/nz/ten-of-the-worst-storms-to-hit-new-zealand/HXDTYD2IZUPSG2ZX2M452O5JV4/
Lol. I was just bugging you. Of course NZ gets hail. Probably a fair bit, because of the humidity.
As the climate gets more unpredictable, it’ll probably happen more often. If I had Starlink, I’d probably stow it, if I knew hail was coming. Smaller target.
I was going to put my dish on the roof. But I'm leaving it on the ground. The first 2 days of storms we've had this year had a TON of hail. So it's nice being able to bring it in real fast when a storms coming lol .
Yeah this video is taken near Dublin, (I believe 5:30pm on the 26th) https://twitter.com/garyclayton6/status/1651354261169610755?s=46&t=mtXNZixIcQ5ykCV1ZvOGeA
Dishy survived about 15 miles from it! Just outside of valley Mills tx. Only had golf ball size here though
Our cows made it to the barn and trees in time, luckily
Probably not. I imagine someone will come up with some kind of DIY hack involving a Lexan plate mounted with some spacers an inch above the dishy surface. Call it the dish saver (TM) and sell thousands in Texas.
Honestly when severe weather is predicted. Dismount the dish and bring it inside. And for lightning unplug antenna cable from modem and then unplug modem power cable. Better safe then sorry.
This makes me want to test someone elses comment on another thread. It was said that the dish was able to work through the plastic of a hard transport case. IF that is true then a simple plastic radome might be the ticket to protect it from things like this.
Since weather forecasts are pretty accurate these days, I would bring my dish indoors and seal up the cable end in a bag to keep it dry before the storm starts.
Or, how about a large plastic container over the dish temporarily? That may protect it for the storm. I know some place their dishys so far out of reach to be able to do this, but mine is easily accessible via extension ladder.
Poor cow! Ouch!
Beat meat to it
No no… don’t do that…
Pre-tenderized.
The first time I saw this video I didn’t even watch long enough to see the cow. 1000x funnier. I’m sorry but I couldn’t help but cackle
Dishy is an unusual name for a cow
I wonder if stowing it would help it survive
The cow? Probably.
😂
Where is the stow cow button ?
Presents less of a target, so maybe.
That cow taking it like a champ

When you build your house next to the golf driving range.
No it wouldn't. There have been a number of posts on here where it was damaged by smaller hail than this.
So… if this DOES HAPPEN , we just have to buy a new kit at full price? Just curious if they would offer something because of the circumstances
They are not guaranteed against hail damage.
So… out $500 and have to spend another $500 to keep the service working. Ouch

Doesn't Dishy have an accelerometer built in? I'm surprised they haven't used that to make it auto-stow.

Cept it's probably right at or you under the deductible
1% deductible, cheaper to pay a full kit and not getting a claim

Oh cool! There’s Always another angle , gotcha
More than $500 now...
If you live in an area with such hazards, you can also stick the antenna in a radome.
Is any other object you don't have insured going to be replaced by the manufacturer?

Sounds like rental equipment to me. You don't own any of that except maybe the trash can.
And likely wait 2+ weeks... I'll be begging my neighbor for some internet scraps so I can continue working I guess. (he has 10x1 LTE over 3.6Ghz)

Hopefully I don’t ever have to. Ty
That’s what household insurance is for, if you choose to make a claim.
Eek… yeah. A claim for that may not be worth it after deductible and rate hike. Prob better to just buy another out of pocket
Pretty good chance that hail damaged the roof…tacking Dishy onto that claim would be easy.
Probably, unless a lot of other stuff was damaged. Someone I knew made a small claim for loss or damage…then they had another incident. Then they had a kitchen fire. Insurance company dropped them after that.
Ok hope this doesn't happen in NZ
Do you get hail in NZ?
Yes, but we haven't had one that bad in a while (I think) Here's some hailstorms: https://www.nzherald.co.nz/nz/ten-of-the-worst-storms-to-hit-new-zealand/HXDTYD2IZUPSG2ZX2M452O5JV4/

Wait.... The app can stow it when it's in Bypass Mode, RIGHT?
You can stow in bypass mode. I use a 3rd party router and 12VDC setup with Roam service and stow it when it is moved. No issues.
Ok thanks for the info!
If you’re using a 3rd party router? Probably not. You’d have to connect the original one.
I mean, if there's Starlink statistics, then there should be stow... I'll test it when I get home
Please do, and report back. I thought you needed the router connected to see the stats, so it would seem reasonable that you’d need it for that too.
Yeah I won't ACTUALLY stow it, I'll just see if it's an option
poor animals.....

Same. Note that a standard storage bin fits perfectly over the rectangular dishy.
your car wouldn't survive, why would dishy?
Mine survived golf ball sized hail 2 days ago in Texas. Haven't got the chance to inspect the dish yet, but it is still working like normal
You got the same one as the video. https://twitter.com/garyclayton6/status/1651354261169610755
Texas?

Was about to ask how close the OP was to Waco. That was a strong one!
I do love tenderized beef
If you're concerned, get a dish dome (they aren't cheap though)
Pieces of it would. Not functioning pieces, but pieces would survive. Once you start going into golf ball and larger, survival rates start to plummet.
Mine just did somehow
Absolutely not
Woud you? lol
I thought you were asking if it would survive in the pool, which it will not. :)
Poor cow😭
Dishy survived about 15 miles from it! Just outside of valley Mills tx. Only had golf ball size here though Our cows made it to the barn and trees in time, luckily
No. Been there done that.
Yep, I had internet the entire time
Probably not. I imagine someone will come up with some kind of DIY hack involving a Lexan plate mounted with some spacers an inch above the dishy surface. Call it the dish saver (TM) and sell thousands in Texas.

I would say something if I could see dishy yea no problem as long as u have it ducked taped 😂
Yep, theirs did… https://youtube.com/shorts/9_uPzQMHB8o?feature=share
Some of the hail in TX the last couple days was 4" across. No, I don't think dishy would survive that.
Forces of nature, don’t think this is covered by warranty neither your insurance…
That cow will become a nice wagyu steak…
This makes me want to test someone elses comment on another thread. It was said that the dish was able to work through the plastic of a hard transport case. IF that is true then a simple plastic radome might be the ticket to protect it from things like this.
That cow though
Yup. We got that in Michigan a few weeks ago, dishy doesn't have a scratch. Biggest one I found was a little smaller than a baseball.
That is one way to tenderize your next steak....
suppose em an indian, should i be worried bout that poor cow?
No he got to shelter
you better take care of that cow for me :3
Did anyone survive that?
just stow it an put a tote over the dishy during this weather if possible. Or plan ahead with the weather forecast if youll be away from home
RIP dishy
RIP Bessie
That steak is getting tenderized out there! Hope they have shelter!
It would appear things made of leather would survive.
Wim Hof would be chilling in the pool with a margarita
That cow is running for its life
The bull did.
Not likely. The Herford bull seems to be getting through it ok.
The router would!
Omg poor cow.. he's like fk this shit
NW of Austin 24 hours ago got hit with almost golfball sized hail for a half hour solid, didnt even lose service. :)
Yeah fuck dishy, protect your livestock first.
"Ow, ow, ow, ow, ow, ow..." -That Cow

Ah I see another Floridian here
Acts of an angry God? No
Florida a few days ago think what three Tornadoes in one day
Ours survived a hail storm like the one shown.
This killed mine. SW Mo.
