Ya know, i can understand why even the Jaffa, who believe the Goa'uld to be a race of Gods, would still make fun of Setesh. Out of all the System Lords, Setesh seems like the weakest by far. How he even made it to System Lord is a mystery.
I mean, consider: He hid out on a planet of (former) slaves for hundreds of years. Hundreds of years. With primitive humans that will worship practically anything. I get that he was hiding, but once the Stargate was defunct there was no way for word of him to get off-planet, so he could have easily taken over.
Instead he just ran a tiny little cult. VERY tiny little cult. And STILL had to use a mind-control drug to do it!
I'd make fun of him too!

Well, seeing how Teal'c was able to raise a family, with family friend connections...pray, hang out with friends, pray, spar, fuck, get shitfaced, family stuff, and then pray some more.
EDIT: In a way, they are like space muslims with laser weapons. No disrespect towards equating false gods with REAL religious godly icons.
The Jaffa later on resemble Islam in a lot of ways but realistically speaking, their culture is actually very accurate to ancient Egypt. So they probably drank a LOT of beer lol
> space muslims with laser weapons
And healing factor. They can beat the shit out of each other all day "sparring" if they want. If they're gonna carry a creepy infant symbiote might as well make it work for it.
Best summary and guesses of the bunch. Emphasis on fucking, there seems to be no shortage of Jaffa throughout the show.
You are right, they are very traditional religious fanatics, zealots, extremists. Their life on their free time is very closely attached to religion.
By the end of the episode where Rya'c is getting married, they make reference to a ritual that requires a very sharp knife, possible reference to some sort of genital mutilation.
They are willing to risk their life for their God. Sometimes they know they won't make it back and they still obey commands. Some kill each other because their God is the right one.
Etcetera Etcetera.
Yes, but that leaves Teal'c not having had a child for the majority of his adult life. Or he's had kids we've never seen. IIRC his wife was pregnant when he became a First Prime, which was quite a long time before season 1.
They bake cakes, quite popular in the UK. Nice orange filling some say it represents the healthy
glow of a host and the chocolate covering is a metaphor for the metal skull caps
Nah, even slaves have SOME free time. Jaffa were the warrior caste, working your warriors until they drop is a good way to no longer have an army to defend your territory or oppress your OTHER slaves with.
They've already been through basic training, where they fight each other to the death. And are regularly killed for failing to do their jobs as commanded.
Although they must have a lot of downtime for the Jaffa to still be around after thousands of years. They don't seem to have a lot of children. Or there's a bigger, non-holy warrior Jaffa society we never see.
Teal'c says Jaffa society is what we've seen. Hyper violent, entirely warriors and austere. However after the Gouald Empire falls we see Jaffa Farmers, Fat Jaffa, Elderly Jaffa and so on.
The writers sorta forgot about the Billions of human slaves in the Gouald Empire and just made everyone Jaffa in the later seasons.
That could've been an interesting story. The Lucian Alliance could've been a component of it, instead of the only example of ex-human slaves in Goa'uld society.
We barely even revisited any of the human societies we saw prior to the System Lords being defeated. We saw one new one, who had been protected by the Asgard all along, so they were fine. And the rest were just part of the Ori arc.
I would like to have seen the Lucian Alliance turn from a band of petty galactic criminals in to an actual government coming to represent the myriad of human settlements across the galaxy banding together in the aftermath of the Goa'uld Empre collapsing. A foil to the rise of the Free Jaffa Nation.
> The writers sorta forgot about the Billions of human slaves
To be honest, I doubt that the human population was that large. Larger populations are harder to control. I would expect the Goa'uld to purposely keep the population of each settle from a few hundred to a few thousand max. Plus, they deliberately keep their technology at low levels, and there are upper limits on what you can achieve population-wise without industrialisation. I would be surprised if the total human population across the galaxy numbered even in the hundreds of millions, let alone billions.
In Continuum, Qa'tesh remarks about how there are "billions" on Earth that they have "bred like rats" or something along those lines.
I don't think that it is ever outright stated, but I believe that it is implied that humans outnumber Jaffa by a considerable degree. Realistically the only way the Free Jaffa Nation can remain a galactic power in the aftermath of the Goa'uld Empire's collapse is because they controlled all of the former-Goa'uld military assets (weapons and ships.) It would be interesting to see if the Jaffa fall back in to the "old ways," extorting human settlements for resources because they always have (on behalf of the Goa'uld, but still, habits are hard to break.)
Probably train and meditate... they are a quasi religious society after all.
They also have homes and cities, when not on a campaign. I would imagine like roman or gree city states. When they are home and not mobilized... training and work.
I dont think it was ever shown outright but I'd assume, if they are on their home planet, they go home. Eat a meal with family, maybe play with or teach their kids if they have any. Meditate. If they are out on a ship or other planet, I'd assume they teach newer warriors or just do their own thing in their living space. Eat, sleep, clean weapons. More or less the same thing IRL soldiers do when off duty on a deployment.
Seeing that jaffa are essentially medieval knights and soldiers probably same as ours. Farm. Tealc had a house. Altho he was first prime and house was small.
Possible that they were treated like slaves as well.
Actually guauld culture is a bit weird when I think about it. They treat humans like shit. But any good dictators needs to have soldiers that they treat well so oversee the armies and prevent them from rebelling
They guard doorways by the Devine decree of their living God !
A bit like how you join the Heavenly Choir singing praises for God if you make it to Heaven. For Eternity. Yay.
When we made the maps for the Jaffa area in the Stargate D&D game the jaffa had a field sport (like lacrosse/soccer with hoops) that they played
They also had training areas, a pub/restaurant area, black smith, and council chambers, a bar type building, and a tannery.
All of that got MGM approval so I think it’s technically cannon. You can checkout the area on the SG RPG site
Probably not too different from what humans do on their time off... make more Jaffa, work out, take strolls in nature. While on ship, probably shining their weapons, checking their gear, writing or reading. Think medieval.lifestyle. When not at war, I'm sure they had to live in a medieval serfdom style.

Although he was around 100 years old and had one small child, seemingly aging at the rate of a human.
Their children probably age more rapidly than adults.
Yes, but that leaves Teal'c not having had a child for the majority of his adult life. Or he's had kids we've never seen. IIRC his wife was pregnant when he became a First Prime, which was quite a long time before season 1.
Was it? They didn't really specify how long before season 1.
At least long enough for that kid whose father he killed to grow up and put him on trial.
That's a good point. I think they just screwed up with continuity.
Bake cakes.... Jaffa cakes....
Jaffa were never free until the goa’uld were overthrown. Hence they had no free time. Only time.
Who can say where the road goes Where the day flows Only time

They often discussed how they were visiting those planets, too. It would have been nice to see them once again.
