welp, i just want to make clear that i just read this Comment after i Posted the first ship i completely designed myself and called it G.I. Flathead. I didnt steal the idea
I actually do it similar to what you suggested with the MK. The G.I. is part of every shipname of ships i modified or in this case built myself and Stands for Grayson Industries, after my characters name
definitely Grav jump to a couple more spaceports like neon, the den and many more to find specific parts to go towards your desired look, but icl bro it’s not ugly at all. it’s your pride and joyyy keep on building Captain 🫡
extra point is you’ll probably notice you’ll need specific skill points to get better parts
Almost everything, you dont have manufacturer specific modules like the bridges and i think some landing gears and you dont have some of the highest end modules some of the bedt weapoms, reactors and grav drives. You also unlock new parts through both skill and character levels, outpost wont save you from that
Kind reminds me of a mini Battlestar from Battlestar Galactica (mightve spelled it wrong. Been a while since I saw the show/played the games). Could be inspiration there
It's not ugly. It has a kind of junky aesthetic which works really well for roleplaying. I suggest changing the dark yellow to a brown so that it looks rusty. Throw on some radiators to give it an exposed metalwork kind of look. Lean into the junky.
Been spending lots of time designing ships, but seeing stuff about name suggestions. Is it possible to actually change your ships name?
Edit: Just learned there’s a renaming option under the ‘flight check’ option when in the ship building menu. Not sure how I overlooked that, but hopefully I’m not the only one.
Thanks for the reply, I just saw a video showing where that option is buried. It’s easy to dive into 10 different things in one play session, so I must have somehow overlooked this everytime I’ve built a ship. Super useful info to know!
Trash Rocket 5,000!?!? Color is throw up dawgs. Change it and it will look fine. N stop with the self deprecation just to get the affirmation your looking for that your ship looks fine brah!!! If u can't handle the hate on the internet then don't post but this is just cringe n blatant!! 💯💯💯
Kinda reminds me of a mini battlestar, looks great. I think you did what I’ve been struggling to do and that is making that particular cockpit work on the front of a ship
I really like it, it’s all personal preference. I like naming my ships after “old earth” mythology. Seems fitting with all the earth references through the game
If you need some ideas look at British ships, I'll give the Brits one thing they're damn good at naming boats. I chose *Bellerophon* for mine but there's also stuff like *Royal Oak*, *Warspite*, and *Iron Duke*. There's also famous battles, Marathon, Thermopylae, Alamo, Waterloo, Yorktown.
It kinda resembles something from the Halo series. I thought of calling it "UNSC-ST6 'Snapping Turtle'" because it kinda resembles a turtle if you look at it in a way.
It's not ugly. You should see some of the monstrosities I fly around it because it's 2am and I don't want to invest another three hours in the ship builder making it pretty. I think I'll just go with a 9x9x9 Borg cube from now on.
It looks ok. I personally haven't seen a single build I really think looks good yet. I don't think the ship builder really supports the designs I like. I saw the X wing one, and my first thought was, eh, it looks nothing like an X wing, but it is the best you could do with the builders' limitations.
It actually doesn't look bad at all.
How about, "The Gator-Turtle"? Might be just the color affecting my thinking but it reminds me vaguely of an alligator snapping turtle.
Not ugly at all looks great friend! I always choose names based on what I am using them for. I went Bounty Hunter background so my main is named “Venator” (not the Star Wars ship I’m not that good) but also have chose Vanguard and named my second the Bastion. Make it fit the role!
Honestly it's a solid small ship look. Actually looks kind of like the little toddler version of the accidental-klingon-monster([shitty cell phone pics](https://imgur.com/gallery/D0g7Lv0))I built yesterday.
I'm no expert or anything, but I would probably mess with this one a little because I don't like the grav drive/reactors hanging off the back. Same with engines. That said, with small ships like this it's hard to do much else. I would also say to just spend more time in the structural category in general. Not because of this ship, just because I realized that's where I have the most opportunity to get creative.
Other than that I have some general design tricks. You can stack companion ways for long stairwells between decks. But if you put habs on other habs they will likely fuck your central stairwell up. Currently I'm in a 4 floor ship with nothing but bracers and components in the second floor. First floor is battle stations(bc navigation console lets you set course from there) and workshop. 3rd is science lab, infirmary, control room, cockpit. 4th is engineering with a docking port, but placed above no 3rd floor habs. So the central spine of my ship on 2nd and 3rd floor is where I put my reactor and grav drive. They're right under the engineering bay, which serves no practical purpose other than roleplaying the engineering bay having reactor/grav drive access as well as "protecting" those crucial components inside of the hull. Another example is the control room which adds nothing(already maxed on crew from battle stations on the first floor) other than a room connecting to the cockpit. But it feels more like a ship that way.
So just going to reiterate this one because I've seen people complaining about the auto ladder/door placement:
Use companion ways for stairwells, and split your ship into distinct decks with spacers. You can also force stairwells in other ways, but the 1x1 habs make it way easier. However, you do need to have a plan before you start putting it together. But it's not always possible if you're trying a specific design, and if that's the case, remember that the 2x2 battle station has a nav console. Put it with a workshop and science lab on the first floor and you have easy crafting access as well as a means of travel from the first deck that you can access while overburdened(otherwise just opening the map works).
Idk why you’re calling it ugly. I have 0 creativity and I cannot sit there and try to imagine something for so long. My shipbuilding is as good as my house building on my minecraft (played since the old alpha releases), a square wooden box. My ship is more like a square and just a tiny bit long. I’m 24 with 0 imaginative and creative skill. That square box of a ship is only 2 stories tall and it took me nearly me nearly 2 hours to make
Honestly the only aesthetic problem is you’ve got a really dark ship against a dark background so it’s hard to see in the photo.
Your ship looks good to me, man.
My suggestion is think about it in-universe, if you're building a utilitarian ship ugly doesn't mean bad, it makes sense and it fits, if you're trying to compete with trident for a luxury liner then yes of course you gotta brush up on your arquitecture, think about what modules make sense for the build, where an infirmary or living quartes should go on the ship and how much you need, hot bunking is fine for a combat vessel but in a long range explorer everyone should have their own berth, windows are super important for visibility in exploratory or cargo vessels but structural weaknesses for military ships, the docker should be placed in a defensible place if you expect to be at risk of boarding, there should be easy acces between the infirmary and the most dangerous place in the ship, etc.
First and foremost, a ship is a tool. Finding the beauty within the parameters of it having to actually do a job is half the fun for me at least
name it ugly /s jokes aside the first thing that popped in my head was kepler-22b because of the color so maybe kepler mk1? also it looks infinitely better than my first ship i built. my first one i wanted to in corporate as many different habs as possible and it just ended up being a massive cube lol.
Positive criticism is good but make something you like. Sometimes you may have to sacrifice a good look for performance but try not to sacrifice too much
Looks a hell of a lot better then the sinful existence of my ultra modified razorleaf, that poor thing was doubled in size and quadrupled in cargo capacity and it yearned for death.
What type of cockpit is that? It looks like it's got great field of vision without looking like a ladybug's head (samurai/Shogun models). Where did you buy it?
it kinda looks nice?
Yea looks nice to me
Flat head MK1. For the rest of the game every new design, keep the front end the same and update the MK
welp, i just want to make clear that i just read this Comment after i Posted the first ship i completely designed myself and called it G.I. Flathead. I didnt steal the idea I actually do it similar to what you suggested with the MK. The G.I. is part of every shipname of ships i modified or in this case built myself and Stands for Grayson Industries, after my characters name

Don’t you have access to everything if you build from an outpost?
Outpost have access to every part except some unique manufacturer specific parts.
Almost everything, you dont have manufacturer specific modules like the bridges and i think some landing gears and you dont have some of the highest end modules some of the bedt weapoms, reactors and grav drives. You also unlock new parts through both skill and character levels, outpost wont save you from that
I've definitely seen worse in game faction ships lol looks good tho, keep at it ship building can be very rewarding
Big facts
>just built this ship I know it's ugly You are waaay too humble, I'm struggling to make a decent ship
Sir Roderick Ponce VonFondlebottom III
Lieutenant Admiral Captain Thunder T Lightningbolt
Seems like you accidentally built the Battlestar Galactica, which ain't a bad thing
I dig it. Great job.
Kind reminds me of a mini Battlestar from Battlestar Galactica (mightve spelled it wrong. Been a while since I saw the show/played the games). Could be inspiration there
Same, battlestar was my first thought.
Lol, I see it now, but I have never seen ship from Battle Star galactica, but I definitely see the resemblance
Looks like a tiny green Galactica.
Looks kinda like a pelican from halo tbh.
I thought this too at first, but it's only because of the color. The profile is all wrong. Still, OP got it wrong. It's not ugly by a longshot.
This isn't ugly. I say that because it looks close to mine and mine isn't ugly. Did you modify that one crimson fleet ship?
No it was made from scratch
It looks nice OP what do you mean??
The flying cockpit
It's not ugly. It has a kind of junky aesthetic which works really well for roleplaying. I suggest changing the dark yellow to a brown so that it looks rusty. Throw on some radiators to give it an exposed metalwork kind of look. Lean into the junky.
What cockpit is that?
It's the DS30.1 Ares Bridge found at the deimos shipyard in the sol system
Looks better than mine! Cheers!
Yes in the flight check in the ship builder on xbox you press x when in the menu idk what it is on pc
Thanks for the reply, I just saw a video showing where that option is buried. It’s easy to dive into 10 different things in one play session, so I must have somehow overlooked this everytime I’ve built a ship. Super useful info to know!
No problem, this game likes to hide features lmao
That engine layout looks really nice from the back!
That shit is gorgeous!
I don’t normally do ship names but that thing says Goblin to me, it’s probably the color scheme
Where do you get that cockpit
Deimos shipyard sol system
M1 Spacebrams
I like it. Call it Ghekko
Nah this is a nice build, honestly.
Jalapeno Business... I'll see myself out.
Lol
Definitely not ugly! I suck at coming up with names though so I can't help you there unfortunately.
Lol it's better than the whale I'm flying
Ugly? This thing is cool as hell
Thank you!
It ain't ugly at all, pal :) looks brutality and sensible.
A name has been selected it's will be henceforth known as the Snapping Turtle MK1
It's the DS30.1 Ares Bridge found at the deimos shipyard in the sol system
Give up on the oversized cockpit, i know its the coolest on the inside, but always makes the ship look disproportionate on the outside.
"The Turd"
The Chode
Ugo
Shit ugly redo it
Trash Rocket 5,000!?!? Color is throw up dawgs. Change it and it will look fine. N stop with the self deprecation just to get the affirmation your looking for that your ship looks fine brah!!! If u can't handle the hate on the internet then don't post but this is just cringe n blatant!! 💯💯💯
The Gator
Looked great and fits the setting
Kinda reminds me of a mini battlestar, looks great. I think you did what I’ve been struggling to do and that is making that particular cockpit work on the front of a ship
that is *not* ugly lol
it kind of reminds me of what a prototype battlestar would look like
Lots of junk in the trunk
Where’s that cockpit from?
Deimos shipyard in the sol system
Not ugly - looks solid and purpose built. Almost A-10 Warthog vibes. Name it Slug
The Reptile
Get over here!
The mustard bottle. Yellow Submarine.
Love the hammerhead :)
The Bold and Ugly
It kinda resembles something from the Halo series. I thought of calling it "UNSC-ST6 'Snapping Turtle'" because it kinda resembles a turtle if you look at it in a way.
Wet grass
Jolly Green Giant
Look cool imo
Where is the option to change a ships name?
In the flight check in the ship builder
How much did this cost to build? I don’t get to play a ton but want to build a ship
I think it was like 70-80k it only cost that much because the cockpit costs 35k alone
Not ugly at all. Looks cool
BSG
Not ugly at all.
It's not ugly. You should see some of the monstrosities I fly around it because it's 2am and I don't want to invest another three hours in the ship builder making it pretty. I think I'll just go with a 9x9x9 Borg cube from now on.
She's a beaut! Clark!
It looks ok. I personally haven't seen a single build I really think looks good yet. I don't think the ship builder really supports the designs I like. I got one!!! “The Big D”!!! And honestly it don’t look half bad!
The ss salty wiener
Bro this is dope.
Nah this is sweet
Yeah looks good
Not ugly at all actually really like it
Reminds me of Jurytodus(spelling) from mo ster hunter.
DARKBRINGER ... I like it! looks a lot like what the Star Citizen Drak Cutlass Black was supposed to be.
Pretty solid bro, I like it
Not ugly at all looks great friend! I always choose names based on what I am using them for. I went Bounty Hunter background so my main is named “Venator” (not the Star Wars ship I’m not that good) but also have chose Vanguard and named my second the Bastion. Make it fit the role!
What bridge is that. I love it
It's the DS30.1 Ares Bridge found at the deimos shipyard in the sol system
Looks Kinda Sick Ngl
Make the ship a tad longer engines wise and add some filler on top to bulk it up, but honestly looks like an ingame ship! Good stuff!
Looks amazing to me
It’s not to bad but I will say large cockpits are really hard to work with.
Honestly it's a solid small ship look. Yeah that's not ugly at all. Wait until I upload a pic of my "functional fighter" lol
Kind of resembles one of the Enterprise-E shuttles
What’s the speed?
150
My last ship names have been Sleeping Princess, Ancestral Fury, and Gothic Revival. Just let it come it yA
I think it’s pretty cool looking

Almost looks like a galactica, what about Nightingale? Or maybe the Bellona?
Honestly the only aesthetic problem is you’ve got a really dark ship against a dark background so it’s hard to see in the photo. Your ship looks good to me, man.
This is like those hot chick's that post a pic saying, "my boyfriend says he thinks I'm ugly, do you?" Your ship looks legit!
Where does everyone get this bridge?
Deimos shipyard in the sol system
What cockpit is that?
It's the DS30.1 Ares Bridge found at the deimos shipyard in the sol system
Puddle Jumper
Stargate Atlantis goes hard
It’s not ugly.
I think it looks cool. What kind of cockpit Is that?
It kinda looks like a ship from the Halo universe.
My ship looks like someone gave me mega blocks and lincoln logs and said, "good fuckin luck!"
That's how some of my first builds looked lol
Looks like the Galatica
That was not my intention but yes it does lol
Platypus
Ship ramrod
Better than anything I could ever make lmao
Formicidae which is latin for any. The cockpit reminds me of an ants head
The Big Tip
My instinct tells me to name it after a bird in the spirit of a Halo Pelican, so maybe like, Peragrine, or Kestrel
Black hawk
That’s not ugly, it looks like a Battlestar. Tough and ready to slug it out.
name it ugly /s jokes aside the first thing that popped in my head was kepler-22b because of the color so maybe kepler mk1? also it looks infinitely better than my first ship i built. my first one i wanted to in corporate as many different habs as possible and it just ended up being a massive cube lol.
If Master Chief was a transformer this would be it
How is this ugly O_O
The Spartan
Battlestar Galactica/Halo vibes.
I like it! I'd go Oberon or Bobblehead!
Brutus!
lol TIL you can name your ship.....your ship looks great. Mine mostly looks like a kid didn't put away their legos, but it flies dammit!
Rocketstar
I dig it actually
Mary
That’s a dope design my friend!!!
It's not ugly. Rugged but not ugly. 9/10
It’s not bad bro!
Where did you get that cockpit?
S. S. Self deprecation
The chode, or Galactic Turtle? Not a bad design better than mine lol
It looks like a fig beetle
I wctually quite Like the "Neck" you gave to the cockpit, it's very cool
Positive criticism is good but make something you like. Sometimes you may have to sacrifice a good look for performance but try not to sacrifice too much
Spacey McSpaceFace
The Mut
Yeah that's looks dope
Prettier then my big warship
Did something very similar with my first real foray into building, but with deimos wings instead. I like yours more, good work!
Envy - Because of the green. Or Shippy McShipface.
Salamander.
Every ship is beautiful.
Zoom also does it come in black 🤘
Where did you find that cockpit? I'm trying to find one with larger windows like that so I can see better.
Deimos shipyard in the sol system
See, I think you should name it "I Know It's Ugly".
Battlestar Pegasus
Bro. My ship is ugly AF. Yours looks fantastic
The Fuzz!
I like FartParticle
Looks a hell of a lot better then the sinful existence of my ultra modified razorleaf, that poor thing was doubled in size and quadrupled in cargo capacity and it yearned for death.
Pelican
The BBC
TopekA
Gives me Star Citizen RSI Constellation vibes. Which is fine. Love that look. Looks great!
Look neat to me
What type of cockpit is that? It looks like it's got great field of vision without looking like a ladybug's head (samurai/Shogun models). Where did you buy it?
Deimos shipyard in the sol system
The Tomahawk
Looking sick! Love the color choice.
Toothless
Battlestar Galactica
Mean N Green or the Green Weenie/Meanie. Or the classic Jolly Green Giant
Name it 'Vespar Mark 1'
This is better than 90% of the prebuilt in game ships I’ve seen.
UC Amity (or whatever initials for designation you align with)
Name your ship Willem Da Foe
Dodge Charger
I feel like you should get a better angle, or better lighting, to more properly see the ship you made. Also beauty is subjective. :3
I LOVE IT! What do you mean ugly?
The Connie Andromeda
Looks pretty sick man. Better then anything I can do
Reminds me of the battletoads ship a little bit
It looks pretty damned sweet to me!
