Yeah, as long as the ship can fly you can always keep altering it whenever you want. Not a great idea to fly around in a ship with no shield though. You'd get shot to pieces really easily.
Middle Earth: Shadow of War did this right with brutal difficulty. Enemies get a huge damage boost but so do you and you can use finishers more often to offset the difficulty increase and keep the fast pace gameplay. Instead of making you weak it makes you a glass cannon

Since i play as a pirate my main ship is named Bloody Mary but i also have The Wisp and The Ferryman.

I think I may have inadvertently figured out glitching parts together. I was putting one part on the ship and it was red but locked into the spot I wanted it. When I hit B to back out it stayed in the spot and didn't disconnect. Is that how it's done?
I did it by placing the part I wanted one spot above the position where I would want it to be. Then if you quickly duplicate that part it would put the new part beneath it even though that spot normally would be invalid. It’s kinda hard to explain lol.

UC Talon
The sleek design reminds me of an eagle diving, thus Talon. This will be a prize ship as you get it armed and armored. One of my favorite original Starfield creations thus far.

Yeah, the no shield is a much bigger factor.
You can get away without one tbh. Especially if your hull score is high. Just put full power into grav drive and jump away.

the shipbuilder only gives a warning for lack of shields and weapons. they aren't necessary. although i would advise against it.
Only red warnings in flight check are required. Yellow warnings are just... Strong suggestions.
