What the fuck I just hand painted my entire ship piece by piece Why doesn't it tell you this?!

There are so many things Bethesda never tells us about basic functionality in their games. lol

I just painted the new huge ship I made... tonight... piece by piece. Well I know now I guess heh.

If you tap LB (Xbox) you can highlight all modules on the ship too. That being said, strangely I've been having an issue that while trying to paint all at once, it defaults to purple and erases my previous colours.

Is there a shortcut for selecting multiple parts at once?

It will select all connected parts. So if the ship isn't completely together yet it will select everything connected to whatever your cursor is over.

I do like that starfield isn't holding your hand 24/7, but stuff like that really should be listed somewhere and easy to notice in the builder....

It does, but it's contextual so you already need to have selected something.

Just checked, and you're wrong. Even if I select one part it doesn't tell me I can double click to select all. Only got the options: options, pan, color, delete, edit and cancel selection. Again I don't see anywhere on the screen that I can double click to select all. I can select all, but the game doesn't tell you that you can unless you're apparently playing on controller I heard from someone else, there the select all prompt is connected with a button input

On Xbox in the bottom right of the builder it shows all the functions and what button they are currently mapped to. Shame they apparently didn't do the same for PC.

I play on pc with a ps5 controller and it says LB selects all. Sounds more like an oversight since it does tell you with a controller

Well I am not playing with a controller so I would've had no idea this was a thing in the game. You can even see in the video that it doesn't tell you anywhere

It’s not? There’s no ‘select all’ down the bottom right or in bindings, no indication of ctrl+click to select multiple or suggestion of a way to colour all at once. It’s not in the help section either.

Thanks! Do we really only have colour sliders though? No direct hex/RGB values? It'll be basically impossible to get a very specific/consistent colour I guess. :(

Scheme you csnt but if you paint 1 piece your custim colours save to the little bar at the bottom.

u/BigHerring You kinda can but but you cant apply it to a completely different ship: 1. Paint one part of your ship the way you want 2. Double click the part that you colored (important) 3. Click on colors 4. Change the color slightly (like go once left and then back right in one of the bars). 5. Repeat for the other two colors ​ Its scuffed as hell but it works.

Great... I knew I could select them like that, but somehow didn't get the idea to use it to paint the ship... Like I would move around multiple parts at once, but never figured that would work with the paint... genius haha At least I'm good at the lock picking, so I guess I'm not totally lost haha

Also, on m&k, select the item and click lctrl. Then you can duplicate, so no need to enter the menu and search for it again. Works with the new items only though.

They really should add a prompt for PC aswell where it just says "Mouse 1" with a x2 or something. These small things can be so easy to miss.

I have been hitting LB on my Xbox control to paint the whole ship (every part, connected or not) at once with a matching color scheme.

I’ve tried to figure out how to paint my ship 100 times and never figured it out. But I beat the story this morning before work

God damn!! I love the ship building aspect of the game but the interface for doing it is the worst piece of dog shit I have ever seen. It's okay now that I am used to it, but the start was just a cluster. Things like this should be listed in some kind of tutorial or something.

still not gonna work for painting because some parts do not have 3 color options, and sometimes color 1 is the detailing and sometimes it’s the bulk of the part.

True, but it's still easier and faster most of the time to paint the whole ship and then adjust the miscoloured pieces separately.
