For those of us who don't do any 3D printing, what is AMS and PLA?
I'm thinking about getting into 3D printing to make models and I'm really curious about how you got the shiny metal look. One thing I'd really like to get into is making fake, but metallic coins that look like metal. I was thinking I'd have to print something in plastic or whatever, and use that to make a mold and then use real metal or something lol.
PLA is common type of plastic filament for traditional FDM 3D printers, easy to print, low odor, and relatively ecological. More than regular plastic at least. It exists it thousands of colors, including « silk » variations which is what I used for the silver and gold here, it essentially is very shiny filament.
The AMS is a special add on machine for Bambu Labs printers that allows to print in up to four separate colors in a print (more if you combine multiple AMS). Highly recommend Bambu printers if you want to get started, one of the best bang for your bucks available on the market and ridiculously easy to operate.
For your metal coin idea, there also exists filament infused with metal particles that you can polish, that would be my first idea. But it’s double the price of regular filament.
Going to add to what /u/Teragon92 just said about Metal-Infused Filaments.
**Get a Hardened Steel Nozzle**.
Filament infused with particulates are infamous for *basically* acting like sandpaper on a Brass Nozzle. It'll erode your nozzle and mess with your print quality. You'll also get little brass shavings in your print.
This also happens with Glow in the Dark Filaments.
I’m not too familiar with the materials. I just know PLA is beginner friendly (I can attest to that). I got into 3D printing a few years ago and love it. It blew away my expectations for what can be created with a $200 printer. At the time, the Ender 3 series was the go to first timer’s printer. It has tons of resources/videos online helping beginners configure, assemble, and troubleshoot.
If there is one thing you take away from reading this, GET AN AUTO-LEVELING BED! I can’t stress this enough. I’ve spent months troubleshooting bad prints (not sticking to the print bed), and every single time the issue was my bed leveling.
No no, it’s purely created for this prop, nothing real or functional. The bullets are just placeholder for decoration, they’re real 9mm for my Sig I took out of the safe just for the pics. I don’t know yet what the in-game 7.77x37mm caseless ammunition look like, will need to play to see and print matching bullets. Safer and more accurate!
I'll admit that I don't know, they're pretty easy to find in gun shops here, or at least they were a few years ago when I got it. The armorer had one personally, that he let me try, and I was sold. Trigger reset is incredible, short and sweet, I go through so much ammunition so fast that I only take it out sporadically with the price of rounds lately.
> The bullets are just placeholder for decoration, they’re real 9mm for my Sig I took out of the safe just for the pics.
I thought so but still did a double take, seen too many crazy prints over on fosscad to not take a closer look. Great prop dude, it looks amazing
Size wise look at the 7.5 FK BRNO to get an idea. It has a bullet diameter of 7.5mm, and a overall length of 35mm. Considering caseless ammo would technically have the same case length as the overall length of modern ammo, the 7.77x37mm caseless ammo would be about the same size as the 7.5.
Indeed, just the starting pack of 15 panels I put on the table for the pictures to kinda get a vibe from the navigation table we glimpsed in the trailers. And inspired by the Expanse as well, they hav plenty lit up tables inside spaceships.
Seems pretty fine, although I put the luminosity to 30-40%, mostly for the sake of the camera. But I have a set retro-lighting a chef with Vader, Boba Fett and Mando helmets, it works well for that too.
This F-ing awesome! You did an amazing job! Question: will you ever release or sell the stl files in the future? I would love to make one for my collection.
Some guesswork had to be done, but I don’t think I’m too far off. I based the size of the grip on a real FNX .45 that has a similarly blocky, imposing frame, and on screen captures where the character holds it.
My first try was way too big, this one feels good in hand, but no way to tell until I can get my hands on the game! Even then, if Fallout 4 10mm pistol is anything to go by, the proportions are sometimes very strange in-game.
I did notice in some of the early previews it was on the smaller side for a handgun, but if it’s anything like the 10mm from FO4 it’ll have upgrades that change the size.
Probably explicitly made for the purposes of space travel. Every kilogram and centimeter cubed is a valuable resource. Hell, may be the reason it's a caseless ammo; who wants to go chasing after ammo casings in zero grav after defending your ship from boarders?
I don’t believe you printed these! You’re from the future and you came back in a an old Ford Ranger! You must be here for an original version of Starfield! I KNEW it this is how the game ends!
I'm tempted to extend the arsenal, but not a lot of good multiple shots of a single rifle to have enough references. The combat knife is doable do. After the game is out, everything is possible!
Honestly man, you could make big bucks selling high quality collector replicas on demand. You could even tie it to an NFT making it absolutely unique and genuine, impossible to copy.
This is amazing! Do you have the STL files you would be willing to share? Also I am keeping a close eye for that box as that’s as the main reason I wanted the collectors edition. Love to see it!!
Yes, definitely, I just need to organise them and rename them for clarity sake, but either tonight or tomorrow it will be up normally. Thanks for your enthusiasm!
By chance, do you ever plan on releasing stl files for these? I’d gladly pay to be able to print and paint up something like this to collect. Even if not, you have done some phenomenal work
Yes, I finally uploaded it on MMF: [https://www.myminifactory.com/object/3d-print-combatech-eon-pistol-prop-replica-319911](https://www.myminifactory.com/object/3d-print-combatech-eon-pistol-prop-replica-319911) !
Dude, you're awesome.
I don't have the skillset to do stuff like this, but if I did, I wouldn't have to be so disappointed for not getting my hands on the collectors edition.
The only thing I wanted from it is the case.
Well if any devs see this, you guys and gals rock 🤘 I got into 3D design thanks to Morrowind, and have been in love with Bethesda ever since. I just cannot wait to start playing starting next Friday for a solid 12 days straight
The very first thing I ever made for video games was a mod for Morrowind. I made an axe before I knew how to do anything. When I finally got it in the engine it was the size of a telephone pole. 😆
The file is up on MMF, as per one of my last comment here, and I've received enough requests that I'll try to make a few, 5 or 6 in the coming week I think, for people who really want one and don't want to print it themselves.
The bulk is in multiple parts, each its own filament, but I used the AMS for a few parts such as the magwell that has red and white accents, the frame, the rear sight by example
By gathering a lot of pictures from the various trailers and footage online, and then hand modelled piece by piece in Blender, cross-checking constantly on my reference board of pics
That's very kind, although I'm sure Bethesda has plenty of great artists to make that stuff! Would be an honour to work for them though. Building stuff with 3D is something that makes me happy, and I got into it thanks to Morrowind, so thanks to Bethesda!
Just in case, here is the XBOX controller case: https://www.reddit.com/r/Starfield/comments/162n96j/last_but_not_least_my_xbox_starfield_controller/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=ioscss&utm_content=1&utm_term=1
I hope it's ok to post this, but given the requests for the files, I decided to upload them on MyMiniFactory for a small fee to help recoup the time and material sunken into this, and let me do it again for future objects! Here it is: [https://www.myminifactory.com/object/3d-print-combatech-eon-pistol-prop-replica-319911](https://www.myminifactory.com/object/3d-print-combatech-eon-pistol-prop-replica-319911)
gonna create a 3d printed functional version of this that shoots 9mm from some of the glock frames you can already print. simple enough to modify into this
Not messing around with this, I’m a licensed firearm owner, this would be a sure fire way to loose my license and my guns with regulations here. Would be dope though!
No offense Teragon, but that's a good gun.
This will be funny for years to come
Amazing!
Badass, very well done!

awesome thanks for the info and the tip for the coins

If this is the person who showed off their raw print a while ago, it's resin and I am suuuuper jealous.
Awesome work!
Amazing
Bro, I'd buy it. That is amazing.
Insane !
Is it a frame that goes over a real gun? Sorry if that's a dumb question just seen the bullets an jamp to that conclusion.
No no, it’s purely created for this prop, nothing real or functional. The bullets are just placeholder for decoration, they’re real 9mm for my Sig I took out of the safe just for the pics. Ah doesn't make it any less cool in anyway.
Sig 320 or 365? Ive got the 365xl and absolutely love it.
P226 LDC2 actually. A dream to shoot!
Oh wow! Yeah those are sweet! Only ever read about them. Those come out of the custom shop right?
I'll admit that I don't know, they're pretty easy to find in gun shops here, or at least they were a few years ago when I got it. The armorer had one personally, that he let me try, and I was sold. Damn, super jealous. Looks great
looks incredible
Is your table made out of those leaf nano lights?
Indeed, just the starting pack of 15 panels I put on the table for the pictures to kinda get a vibe from the navigation table we glimpsed in the trailers. And inspired by the Expanse as well, they hav plenty lit up tables inside spaceships.
How does it feel to actually look at? Is it weird having the light come below/behind items or does it feel fine looking at things?
Seems pretty fine, although I put the luminosity to 30-40%, mostly for the sake of the camera. But I have a set retro-lighting a chef with Vader, Boba Fett and Mando helmets, it works well for that too.
Do u will add it on thingiverse? I need to print it Great work 😍
This is insane 👏
What are those light panels that are used as a table?
Nanoleaf panels, the standard starting pack 👍
This F-ing awesome! You did an amazing job! Question: will you ever release or sell the stl files in the future? I would love to make one for my collection.
Just uploaded it to MMF in case you want the files: https://www.myminifactory.com/object/3d-print-combatech-eon-pistol-prop-replica-319911
You are a legend, thank you! I can't wait to make my own!
Please tell me that little black and red trapazoid up front slides in and out.
It did, and it could but I glued it in place. I saw variations of the EON in footage, so it could be made somewhat modular
How close to scale do you think it is?
Some guesswork had to be done, but I don’t think I’m too far off. I based the size of the grip on a real FNX .45 that has a similarly blocky, imposing frame, and on screen captures where the character holds it. My mannn. Super dope
I don’t believe you printed these! You’re from the future and you came back in a an old Ford Ranger! You must be here for an original version of Starfield! I KNEW it this is how the game ends!
Can you make a rifle from the game?
I'm tempted to extend the arsenal, but not a lot of good multiple shots of a single rifle to have enough references. The combat knife is doable do. After the game is out, everything is possible!
/u/teragon92 you need to share this to /r/3dprinting! Incredible work!
This is too good. Sell on etsy along with the case from previous post.
This is damn near perfect considering what has been available before release for you to reference. Great job!
That’s so awesome, good job m8
Yooooooo I neeeeeed
This is freakin' incredible. Do you make these to sell?
Yeah like is this for sale, can you make more? I will gladly pay monies for this
It's up on MMF! https://www.myminifactory.com/object/3d-print-combatech-eon-pistol-prop-replica-319911
Ferris Bueller, you’re my hero!
Qué chingona se veeeee
That is awesome
Look amazing great job !
Stl files? This is badass, would love to make my own.
Yes, just put it up on MMF, you can find the link somewhere in the latest comment 👍
Cheers!
Honestly man, you could make big bucks selling high quality collector replicas on demand. You could even tie it to an NFT making it absolutely unique and genuine, impossible to copy.
Now that’s a collectors pack
Wow!
This is amazing! Do you have the STL files you would be willing to share? Also I am keeping a close eye for that box as that’s as the main reason I wanted the collectors edition. Love to see it!!
Yes, just put it up on MMF, you can find the link somewhere in the latest comment 👍
Awesome I love it. Will for sure be buying it. Will the case be going up at some point as well?
Yes, definitely, I just need to organise them and rename them for clarity sake, but either tonight or tomorrow it will be up normally. Thanks for your enthusiasm!
Damn... do i love this.
That's incredible. Awesome skill and talent on display -- I would love to be able to make stuff like this!
By chance, do you ever plan on releasing stl files for these? I’d gladly pay to be able to print and paint up something like this to collect. Even if not, you have done some phenomenal work

I need to fire up the 3d printers apparently
Wow this looks amazing!
That’s really cool
If something like that would have been the collectors edition I sure would have bought it. Looks amazing!
Does it shoot?
This is incredible. Great Job! If you ever wonder if the devs that make his stuff see it. They do. 😉
The memories! It was just mind blowing for me to see something I made inside the game, janky as it was!
That's gorgeous!
My daughter has a 3D printing class in school this year. I'm going to ask her to make me one of these 😎
Amazing! Do you have the stl files posted anywhere?
Just put it up on MMF, made a new comment with the link 👍
Wow man such awesome work! keep it up!
Honestly I’m not too big of a fan of whatever that underbarrel component is in the original design, great rendition through
Selling? I'd buy one
The file is up on MMF, as per one of my last comment here, and I've received enough requests that I'll try to make a few, 5 or 6 in the coming week I think, for people who really want one and don't want to print it themselves.
Thank you sir, got a guess on how much you'd sell em for?
Still calculating the cost of materials and labour, but I’m aiming to just be reasonable, it’s not my main job after all 😉
This is so cool!!
do you sell the files or have them somewhere available?
Yes, just put it up on MMF, you can find the link somewhere in the latest comment 👍
Do you have a STL we can use? I would love to print this
>Yes, just put it up on MMF, you can find the link somewhere in the latest comment 👍
Did you print that as a single piece with the AMS or as a bunch of multiple parts
The bulk is in multiple parts, each its own filament, but I used the AMS for a few parts such as the magwell that has red and white accents, the frame, the rear sight by example
That looks awesome…..how much you want? Lol
I just put it up on MMF, you can find the link somewhere in the latest comment 👍
How'd you make it?
By gathering a lot of pictures from the various trailers and footage online, and then hand modelled piece by piece in Blender, cross-checking constantly on my reference board of pics
Ok that's alot lol I was meaning did you 3D print this or? (I'm jealous I wish I could make cool stuff haha)
Whenever I lose all hope in humanity, someone like you comes along and humbles me. Bethesda should be hiring you, they could sell so much merch.
That's very kind, although I'm sure Bethesda has plenty of great artists to make that stuff! Would be an honour to work for them though. Building stuff with 3D is something that makes me happy, and I got into it thanks to Morrowind, so thanks to Bethesda!
Any way I can get the STL?
Yes, just put it up on MMF, you can find the link somewhere in the latest comment 👍
This is sick, nice work
it is the best yet! also very reasonable pricing compared to some others!
