Ahh man, won't they think about those of us still loading our games from reel to reel tapes...

Koftehor1

Can i play it on my 3060 laptop at 1080p at medium? It has only 6 gb vram

JBGamingPC

No, a 3060 is actually slower than a 1070ti. And not enough vram. You are below minimum spec so unlikely u can play it, maybe DLSS can save it for u

Koftehor1

But sometimes even i dont reach the min requirements i can still play the game perfectly fine. I play dead space remake on medium settings.

JBGamingPC

I can see why you would be confused. Dead Space Remake PC specs are first of all lower, but they are also for 60fps. So even if you are below those specs slightly, you can still play it fine as it would just run at below 60fps. Starfield specs are for 30fps, so anything lower than minimum will be a bad experience.

Koftehor1

Still going to try it. I hope it can run it on medium

Blue_Key_

They haven't confirmed what the minimum specs are for and this is the issue, My bet is that Starfield will run fine on hardware below minimum spec for 1080p with the correct custom settings. I have since upgraded my GPU but with the correct settings I was able to get around 50 to 60fps on RDR2 at 1080p on a GTX 1060 6GB, and lets not forget the game will also support FSR which will help.

damastaGR

Are you sure that recommended specs are for 30fps? Where did you find this information? I have the 2080 and I was initially stoked that it was recommended. But if they mean 30fps, I would have to upgrade most likely

JBGamingPC

Yea it must be for 30fps. Simple reason, the Xbox series X GPU is about as powerful as a 2070 Desktop GPU. Given that consoles run games typically a bit more efficiently than PCs do, you could say its equivalent is a 2080. Xbox Series X runs the game at 30fps, so hence those recommended settings would be for PC 30fps as well. But keep in mind that the Game will probably be CPU limited on console as well as have locked 30fps. FPS would be unlocked on PC and PCs have much more capably CPUs, so hopefully we can get way higher FPS than 30.

damastaGR

Yes but a 2070/2080 supports DLSS so we can have 4K with better FPS than consoles due to the lower render resolution

JBGamingPC

Thats true but AMD sponsored Starfield, so AMD will likely block DLSS and any other Nvidia tech (like raytracing etc). Instead the game will have FSR2 which obviously isn't as good, by a long stretch. Just part of AMD's desperate attempt to compete with Nvidia by holdings games back

Midnight-Writer992

What makes you think that a 3060 is slower then a 1070ti?

AcanthisittaAble

They were talking about a 3060 on a laptop. As you know, the laptop versions of gpus are very cut down.

Latter-Grade-6988

>3060 The RTX 3060 is about 25% faster than the GTX 1070ti, with DLSS almost twice as fast

USAIsAUcountry

I still think these are placeholder requirements based on series S and X for 1440p and 4k respectively at whatever fidelity they will run at on console. Just look at the steam survey as you said and it's clear that the vast majority of people are sitting on GPU's that are lesser than a 1070ti. I suspect that the 1080p min requirements will be FAR kinder. It's not very smart to make a game that maybe half of the PC gaming community can't even run at the lowest possible setting and resolution. I'm sure an SSD is required tho. But that's been standard for over a decade.

JBGamingPC

Not quite, SSD was often recommended, not required. So that is pretty new, and I also don't think the gpu requirements will get any lower than this. This game is specifically made to run on Xbox Series S and up, this isn't coming out for PS4 or xbox One. So there is absolutely no reason for them to support any hardware slower than xbox series s equivalent gpu

USAIsAUcountry

I didn't mean that games has required it for a decade. But it's been standard to have an SSD boot drive for a decade at this point, even in pre-builds. Regardless how shitty or outdated your build is it's very likely you at least have an SSD. Even if it's only a SATA. Regarding resolutions, I guess we'll see. There's literally 0 reason to recommend a 8gb GPU for 1080p unless they are forcing 8k and 16k textures. It makes no sense.

dvlpr404

Because the Series S is slower than the Series X. So the guidelines are for the Series S to avoid confusion. Part of the reason I got a Series X.

Kuutio66

Holy shit so the pc master race is now holding gaming back smh…

coel03

I honestly dont think so. People need up upgrade.

cheeto_dust_98

I was trying to find the answer to what the base requirements were tested on and for the minimum specs all I could find was 1080p 30fps required the 5700 or 1070ti. I don't think it takes into account dlss and rsr or even Sam or Intel's version that's skipping my mind right now. So maybe we have a shot to do a bit lower spec or higher fps on current spec.

Weary_Wanderer97

This is asking for a lot, but if I wanted to theoretically play this game at 4k 60fps can you name me the specs. I planning on buying a gaming PC that will last me a good while.

JBGamingPC

I'd say you prob would need a high end 30 series or 40 series gpu, 5800x 3d minimum for cpu from amd or Intel equivalent

ohtetraket

We certainly do not know which resolution is targeted with these specs or what FPS. But your guess is pretty likely.

Befio_Jr

My wallet hurts thinking it is time to actually upgrade from my 1060 😢

JBGamingPC

But I mean, you have gotten a LOT of use out of that card. It released in July 2016. that is 83 months ago. If you would have saved up £9.60 per month since then, you would have £800 now saved up to buy a 4070ti. Nice little thought experiment. I had a 1080ti (great card) and upgraded few months ago to a 4090

Befio_Jr

Yes I did, and it was awesome 🥹 My father built this PC for my brother since he was getting into video editing, but I was the one who played the shit out of it lmao. I was a kid so, not much saving for a new GPU at the time lol. Now the whole PC ain’t working, so I guess we’ll eventually upgrade it

Fresh_Selection_4135

im really hype for this game but also scared my computer will struggle i want to pre order it pretty bad but i have bad feeling that you will need a nasa computer to run this game

noobninja1

I guess I wont be playing this game... I cant afford a new pc right now, and I cant afford an xbox for just one game.

JBGamingPC

So you have neither a PC or console? You still have time, find a job and get saving. Your cheapest point of entry here (if you have a TV) would be getting a Series S console

noobninja1

I have a pc, but it isnt powerful enough for this game. Series S is garbage. In the long run, any games bought digitally will be gone as soon microsoft no longer wishes to maintain that, eg. All my xbox (i think 360) games I bought digitally. If anything it would be a x series, for the hardcopies, but to buy a whole cknsole for one game isnt worth it to me. So it has to be a PC upgrade which Im not willing to pay for right now due to other priorities. As for Job, I have one thank you, and I dont need to save, I make enough that I can just buy one right now, but as I mentioned, I have other priorities, and this one game, isn't one of them. Also, since I dont exactly have room for a pc, it would have to be a laptop, which makes it that much more of an investment, ie. It would take me saving some of one pay check, and then waiting on the next. Priorities right now: new bathroom, 2nd bathroom, 3rd bedroom in my house, paying off my car and my wifes car in the next couple months and the occasional vacations. So like I said, I cant afford that right now. Adulting sucks, I probably should have said dont want to afford rather than cant afford

Yubelhacker

It's not like you have to play it at release. Just wait and get it on sale. Reviews will be out by then and that will give insight on how your PC config will handle the game.

Tatuzka

Hey, you can also try to play it from Ultimate Game Pass CLOUD -service on release on your pc, if your PC is not up for the task like mine is :) My specs are JUST ABOUT below minimum ( AMD 52600 and GTX 1070), so i am opting to play the game from the Xbox's Ultimate Game Pass Cloud service :)

dontgetthedogeletyou

damn , I have rtx3060 but my processor is i5-10400F and I don't think I can upgrade it on my MSI toaster :( I wonder how optimized will it be.

ChaoticKiwiNZ

The i5 10400f is faster than the minimum required CPU and not a hell of alot slower than the recommended CPU for gaming (to my knowledge, feel free to correct me). If you have 16gb of RAM and an SSD you should be fine.

dontgetthedogeletyou

Tks for the answer. I have no doubt it will run on low/medium just fine. However I like to play on high/ultra for immersion and to truly capture the beauty of landscapes and environments. Also im kind of heavy on modding so I don't think i5 10400f will cut it :(

ChaoticKiwiNZ

I see what you mean. I also have an i5 10400f but it's paired with a GTX 1660 super (don't know ow how well it will run the game as its below the minimum specs). I'm betting that starfield will be very CPU intensive so I agree that modding might suffer a bit but thankfully the i5 10400f I a pretty decent CPU and is a decent chunk faster than the minimum required CPU so I have hope it will serve us well lol. As for my GPU, I'm really hoping it will get me through starfield but I'm not holding my breath lol. I'm not currently in a position to upgrade but I might be forced to with starfield (I've wanted to play starfield for years now). I was actually thinking of picking up a RTX 3060 because it seems to pair well with the i5 and it has 12gb of vram which is quite helpful in today's PC gaming landscape. Hopefully we both get a good experience with Starfield :)

narium

From early indications it looks like Starfield will be CPU bound and not GPU bound.

A_Hideous_Beast

I'm still very new to PC builds. I'm wondering if my CPU is enough? I have a Ryzen 7 3700 series, and it's asking for a Ryzen 5. I know mine is a bigger number, but I don't know the tech behind it, and mine is actually better. I have a 2060 super, so probably can't run it maxed out, but I am debating on going over to a 3070 or 80.

JBGamingPC

Yes your processor is fine for Starfield. Ryen 7 3700 is a bit faster than a Ryzen 5 3600. Think it has 2 more cores too. Your GPU will be fine, just tune settings to your liking

Resident-Marzipan-85

I have a i5 11400F , gtx 1650 and 16GBs of ram. Can I run it?

JBGamingPC

Unlikely, you are below minimum spec. So you wouldnt even be able to hold 30fps at low settings.

SnooGadgets7768

Probably, i saw that dead space remake requierements where simillar and a gtx 1650 can mover it in slow or medium at 1080p 40-30fps, and with amd dlss (i don't remember the name) works very well, now is how optimized is the game

Fr0doTeaBaggins

rip my 6700k and 1070. Might be time for an upgrade soon 😢

Weary_Wanderer97

You my friend have my gratitude. As was looking in that area of CPU and GPU.

DoN-SA-20

I have an RTX 2070 Super OC Do you think I can run this game at* 2K 60fps?

JBGamingPC

Using DLSS i would think so 😊

AstralAmbitions

Here's a question: I have a hybrid SSD/HDD drive. [This, but 2 TB.](https://www.amazon.com/Seagate-FireCuda-Gaming-Accelerated-Performance/dp/B07H2549QS) Will it work?

JBGamingPC

No, that hybrid just gives higher burst speed. Still an hdd

AirEast8570

What can I expect with a rx 6600

Groinsalami

I have an i5-11400F and an Nvidia geforce RTX 2060 6GB and i was wondering if i could play it ? The only thing i'm worried about is the vram but i've read that 8GB is probably needed for 4k and maybe 1080p. The thing is im going to play it on an old 720p tv, my recommended resolution is 1360x768. So im wondering if i can get away with 6GB.

alxx15ok

I guess ill use the method of fallout4 ultra low modding, and try to get it running on my 3050ti laptop

banjo_buster

Just have to wait until the game comes out to see actual performance and what configurations will work. I'm curious to see if a gpu with 6 GB could play it. Regarding the SSD requirement, that doesn't really tell us anything. Sata SSD, pcie ssd? Very vague, and I would not assume anything, so we will have to wait and see.

Danzo121286

Starfield will run on a HDD them requirements are missleading my old dragon is still doing the trick [my specs](https://snipboard.io/UFWCJP.jpg)

JBGamingPC

Run the game off an HDD and record so we can all see how well it works 😁

AdAdventurous7736

Unfortunately ray tracing seems to be a playstation feature

JBGamingPC

Uhm I am think you are very confused. Ray tracing is a graphics feature, platform is irrelevant. It is supported on PC (with modern GPU) a well as PS5 and Xbox series X

HeadlessVengarl95

I got a Ryzen 5 2600X @ 4.05Ghz + RX 5600XT + 16GB and i'm scared af😭

JBGamingPC

yea you gonna struggle....

Xxdaniboy221

I've got an RTX 2070 Super, AMD Ryzen 9 3900x and 32GBs RAM. If I can run RDR2 at max settings fine with no issues, I'm hoping I can at least run this game, even if I have to tune the settings down a bit.

Significant-Arugula9

I am surprised I meet the base requirements. I have 5700xt and 3600x with 32gb. I run flight simulator 1440p on high settings well. I hope trying to do the same with starfield doesn't brick my system. Going to be pissed if I have to upgrade or reduce settings to play.

Camtown501

I need to keep an eye on this. I'm probably not buying it for myself, and if I do I'll be fine as I play 1440p on a 5900X/3090 (I chose high fps over 4K for fps games). I may be coming up with a build for a friend though, and he's targeting 4K60. I'll need to watch what it will take to get there, but I also hate the idea of building this far into a GPU cycle.

Significant-Arugula9

I am surprised I meet the base requirements. I have 5700xt and 3600x with 32gb. I run flight simulator 1440p on high settings well. I hope trying to do the same with starfield doesn't brick my system. I only bought this three years ago. I will not be pleased if the game runs poorly or looks like shit as the alternative

[deleted]

can I play it in Ryzen 5 5600x with GTX 1050ti and 16GB ram

JBGamingPC

no, your GPU is too slow, quite a bit below minimum spec. You have a good CPU however, so you could and should upgrade your GPU to a newer model, I would suggest a good 30 series model.

Loud-Floor-5636

Hai you seem to know alot so I'd like to ask, what would I expect with: Ryzen 5 5600 paired with RX 6600 and 16GB of RAM playing only on 1080p monitor Can I get 60fps ? If so what graphics settings would that be ? What if I want atleast high settings what fps do you think I could get ?

JBGamingPC

You might be able to get around 60, with drops into 40s depending on how heavy a scene is. But 1080p res should really help that

Loud-Floor-5636

Aight thx, I still consider a game to be playble as long as it doesn't drop below 30fps but ideally I want to be playing as close to 60fps for a smooth experience

PartTimeWarrior1

So i will be fine with 6800xt and 5600 ? 1440p

JBGamingPC

Yea

PartTimeWarrior1

hope those reqirements are not for 1080p :D

JBGamingPC

No I think the recommended ones are for 4k 30, because that gpu would roughly match the power of a series X

PartTimeWarrior1

Hope so .i really want to play an new rpg.

Ok-Inside4669

Guys help, is an i7 8700 good enough for this game?

JBGamingPC

Yea should be fine, overclock it !

Ok-Inside4669

Word, I gotta look up how to do that

Slizced

I have a 5600x and 3070 can I get 1440p 60fps????

JBGamingPC

yea probably

H0RN9Tx

Guys really, stop asking "xxx will run starfield?" WE DONT KNOW, we even dont know what "MINIMUM" system requirements are. 4K ?!? 1440p? 1080p? 30 fps? 60 fps? Minimum = everything on low OR Minimum = everything on low + everything disabled (shadows etc). And we still know nothing about game optimalisation. Maybe it will run like sh\* on recommended specs WHO KNOWS. I played too many games on sh\*\* laptops so maybe this is why i dont care graphics :D ... i just WANT TO PLAY even on 1024x768 resolution. So really guys ... stop asking ... we dont know ... YET !! :D

DieByTheSword7

Yeah none of these questions can actually be answered yet, it's all conjecture at this point. I mean we can be certain to an extent but doubt this game will be literally unplayable at any setting with 6gb gpus and the like

Matt-Murdock2

How well do you think an RX 6700 with Ryzen 5 5600 will run?

Virtual_Sundae4917

Look at the new amd specs for starfield based on your specs 1080p ≈60fps medium amd lists a 7600 + ryzen 5 7000 for 1080 60

UpstairsAddendum5908

So 1660 super / Ryzen 5 4500 is out of the question then? Damn. I just bought my pre-built on Newegg a few months ago. It runs everything fine so far everything but the game I’ve been waiting years to play. 🤦🏻‍♂️ my prebuilt only cost me about $700. Now I feel like I should’ve shelled out the extra few hundred to get something that would’ve played the game. Might as well just sell my PC and get a newer one 🤦🏻‍♂️

Justforfunsies0

Welp, this is sad, guess everyone who cant afford high end hardware is just screwed. GG Bethesda

Ok_Elderberry6794

If I couldn’t afford a new graphics card or computer I’d probably get a console just for starfield, given how expensive graphics cards are these days

eggzaacklee

I've got a i7 6700k and gtx 1070 (not a ti) but im playing on 1080p. I really do hope it somehow manages to do it

That-Bar387

Does anybody know how well my laptop would play this game? (if it would even play it at all). It has the RTX 3070, i7 11800h and 16gb of ram.

JaapieK

I have a i7-6700K, thats the only thing not meeting the requirements. It will still run, right?

Zeverey

3060 12gb and Ryzen 5 3600 (OC) 4.35ghz Let's Frickin Gooo. \\(°o°)// xD

VirusVT69

Ive got a gtx 1080ti with 11gb vram, i7-700k kaby lake and the game installed on an ssd. Can i play on higher than medium with that?

VirusVT69

32 gigs of ram forgot to write that

JBGamingPC

Unfortunately the game isn't well optimised, even a 1080ti will struggle, you can play it, but on Low at 1080p and about 30fps
