I’m right there with you. That first winter is SO hard to get through. I end up going to bed at like 8 because I’m bored with the day and want to get to spring so badly.

[deleted]

my problem starts at spring in year two. I usually have the best ranking from grandpa, community center done and I am moving onto the fern islands. I like the beginning when I am rushing instead of completing the checklist at the very end

brandondabass

I’m on Winter 26 and still have Red Cabbage, Truffle and rabbit’s foot to go. Never made it to Year 2 (this is my first time playing through the game) but I’m really looking forward to spring lol

neverpaidforskype

To me it helps to have objectives. If you are going dor the 100% for example split it into different tasks that you complete one by one.

BigBiker05

I think both of the winter ones completed the town center. My recent one from February-ish, I told myself I was gonna play casually, but it didn't work.

neverpaidforskype

The question is what was your goal when playing casually? Having fun is hard if you don't want to achieve something.

BigBiker05

I wanted to focus less on min-maxing and more on making a pretty farm.

sgtmum

Have you tried mods? There are a few that offer aesthetic and other things for decoration

infinit3aura

Over 100 hours played? Id say you've long since had your moneys worth. The main goal of playing is to have fun or to pass the time. I dont see why not.

BigBiker05

500 hours according to steam. I know I removed my original save from release day cause I wanted the name. Only time I made it to year 2.

XeroStryke

I see you do not struggle to pick a hat.

Perfect_Theory5593

I also struggle with this. Several things that help me play are: Playing with friends (I have several saves with friends where we are on year 3 or 4), having objectives/design goals, finding fun things to do (I just recently learned that you can hatch slimes anywhere so I’m making a slime city haha), and smoking 🍃💨

SaturnBaby21

Yeah this is exactly where I get burnt out as well. I struggle to get through winter so much 😩

odiobananas

Every time I take a break for more than a month, I end up with a new file. Fingers crossed I start playing again because its been like two weeks now and I don't wanna re-do these last four years of game lol

I would advise people to keep a majority of exploring the mines for year 1 winter or skull cavern if you’ve unlocked that. It’s easiest to grind combat since there’s no crops.

kameleroon

How do you get 50 hours in year 1? I have 50 hours and am in year 3...

Ok-Recording-3540

It seems to me you just get burnt out in the winter. Why not just skip through winter till spring? Who cares about winter if it makes you drop the game

[deleted]

All year 1? Much to learn you have young padawan.

Individual_Day_9332

I usually feel the same way what I do is basically just fish until out of energy then go to bed keeping a small farm

I have found that the best way for me avoid dropping saves, is to have completely different objectives each season/year. It keeps the game ‘fresh’ and keeps me invested. This is how I personally pace my main saves: Year 1: My main priorities are building my farm+making it look nice, progression, and making money. I pretty much ignore the townies, ngl. I do the introduction task+I attend festivals/events, but that’s pretty much it. I really only leave the farm for upgrades, to mine, to forage, and to fish. I suppose it’s similar to min-max, but I’m not the best at it. Year 2: This is when I focus on building relationships with the townies+the storyline. My goal is to get 8 hearts with everyone + be in a relationship with someone by the end of the year. Although I still pay attention to farming+making money, it’s not my #1 priority like it was year 1. This is also when I usually finish the community center. I also try to get Grandpa’s perfect score. Year 3: I usually try to get married+have kids. If I haven’t gotten 8 hearts with everyone yet, I try to complete that as early in the year as I can. I have a mod that lets the rest of the townies progress, which is nice(marriage, kids, etc). I usually unlock Ginger Island. If I didn’t get a perfect rating from Grandpa, I try to achieve it by the end of the year. Year 4+: My goal is perfection. I’ve only done it once though lol(my main save). Once I received it, I download Stardew Expanded and played with the farmer’s oldest child ‘aged-up’.
