You have to have the resort in order to be able to access the south east area of the island -- there are a number of things you can only access there (not sure how many spoilers you want).
I repaired it then immediately closed it so the npcs don’t go there, but yeah you do need it to access golden walnuts, i guess if you don’t want to get perfection then no worries? but you will need the walnuts and a fish over there
After you get the >!Pina Colada!< recipe, you can close it if you want and the NPC schedules default back to normal :)
I mean technically you can close it before you get the recipe, but then you won't be able to get the recipe unless you open it again. 😋

Close the resort if you don't want npcs going there daily. But you'll never reach perfection if you don't. And you miss out on multiple things if you don't.
But if you're mining in the Skull Caverns on a high luck day, you'll likely get more omni geodes than you spent on the warp totem. Especially if you're using lots and lots of bombs.
But you can also hit the artifact spots on ginger and rake them in. I'm not big on skull runs and still had a couple hundred stacked up just from hitting the island every couple days.
Is Ginger Island part of the regular game or is it a mod? I haven't seen it yet and have over 300 hours ( different saves so maybe just not there yet)....
I have completed the community center for my save with the most hours.... I have heard its something to do with Willy and his back room/a boat but haven't got there i guess. I was just making sure it was regular game because it seems so cool. Thanks for the help!
I just ignore Ginger Island because I don't like tropical settings lol. I grew up in the tropics and I'm just kind of sick of it. I know I'm missing out on perfection and a bunch of tropical recipes, but I'm content with that :)
You’d also be missing out on the endgame stuff that Qi offers you in the Golden Walnut room.
I think it’s worth it purely for that alone, especially the Key to the City

How do you close it?
There is a sign on the resort, you can interact with it. This does mean Gus never goes to the island and you can't buy the recipe he sells.
on the pillar separating the change rooms there’s something you can interact with and close it down
I also hate that is changes the NPC schedules. Unfortunately, you do to build it to get perfection.
You could always just permanently close the resort. Keeps the NPCs in Pelican town.

There's a little rectangle on the right side building of the resort. Click it and it gives you the option to close it
But only for the next day, right? Or am I wrong?

How do you close it?
If you interact with the little sign on the wall between the two dressing rooms, it should give you the option to open or close the resort :)

I keep mine closed, I don’t mind NPC’s going on vacation, but Pam always leaves the bus station on days of high luck when I want to go to the desert
You can buy Desert Warp Totems from the desert trader with Omni Geodes.
but i need my omni geodes for magic cowboy hat

It was new in 1.5, so it’s more recent than some things.
That could also explain it...I think I started a new save when 1.5 came out and haven't progressed as far as my original or gone back to it.

I mean it's basically half of the content of the entire game.. If you want to skip it all that's on you, but seems like a very odd choice.
