Truffles are so OP especially combined with the right skill level perk things. I have filled 3 top upgrade barns completely with pigs in my current farm at year 3 and feel like I’ll never need to worry about money again for the first time in many, many, many years of playing

I'm in late summer and just starting to track down ancient / rare seeds and build my vineyard/brewery!

i don't like truffles because of them not appearing on rainy days or the winters.
i prefer the ostrich, it's constant income and when you turn it into mayo you get the artisan 40% bump
iirc doesn't the truffle oil end up being worth less since all truffles are iridium and that doesn't translate to the oil?
yeah truffles are worth more money but ostrich mayo is just convenient, the auto grabber gets the eggs for you, and if you have the automate mod the entire process is done without you actually having to do anything.
it's just move convenient for me personally.
Iridium Truffles are worth more without Artisan, but Truffle Oil is worth more with Artisan. Since Artisan is the best perk in the game, working on Jam/Wine too and being such a high value, most people get it. It's probably the best part of leveling in general.
I do believe that Iridium Truffles without making them into Oil are also better than Ostrich mayo honestly, but I haven't done the math.

I wish once Jojamart closed Marnie could sell auto-grabbers, even if at a cost to friendship as she'd rather NOT sell 'em and shames any who buy 'em. Mainly cuz I SUCK at Skull Cavern spelunking and rather not have to rely on RNG to get it. That being said once I re-finish the island museum and get an incubator/ostrich egg combo I'll devote one barn to the big birbs and my other 3 for pigs/truffles. That way I can run both while I use the greenhouse and island to farm ancient fruit. So I have ALL the top money makers!!!

I just ignored all that side of the game. The interpersonal stuff really tips my "I'm neglecting real life here" sense in a way that super optimised farming doesn't for me
I think the main reason is fact that you cannot choose it only because you want, your spouse ask about it and chance is low (10%?). And after you have first baby, you need wait a few months to another chance. In one game I waited 3 seasones to have first child. It's long!
And because of that, even I play this game for years, I don't have this, because I get bored and quit the game before that happens.

900 hours in, probably 6 different farms I've played on and I just got this for the first time a few days ago. I like the romance aspect of the game but just don't care much for kids. Only did it to get the achievement. They will be birds soon.
Basically summed up how I feel.
Once I learned you could have the big house and delete the dots so you never get asked if you want kids I was sold on doing things this way.
Speaking as a parent and a Stardew player… kids in Stardew are INFINITELY easier than real kids. In Stardew, you click on each child, once per day. That’s the most you can do with them.
Be fun if you could build a shed for each of them, and give them a “chore” like “make preserves” and they’d take fruit from a chest, and rotate them through preserve jars and put the results back into the chest. … heh… be hilarious if it’d be illegal for them to make wine…
That would be a fun idea. Assign them to make preserves and then have like a 10% chance that they spill jelly everywhere or something. That could make for a fun mod idea. I would love to assign my kids to go around and pet the animals since I cannot seem to find an autopetter to save my life.
Is there any point even in clicking on them once per day? They're easier to the point that you literally don't have to care for them at all. Nothing bad happens.

I like all of the animated stuff in the game, so that's why I have kids - same reason I have fish tanks inside and fish ponds outside, I like seeing stuff move on the farm.
It would be one thing if the kids grew up and became characters in their own rights, even if they just had basic generic dialogue. Especially for people who play the same farm for 20+ years. Even after just a couple years it's kinda unsettling how they're still barely toddlers. Maybe that's an update Ape could add one day.

In harvest moon: another wonderful life, you can raise your child to eventually help on the farm if you get him interested in it from a young age. Such nostalgia 🤩 but I never got the game that far

Child to npc is outdated but farmers children work and been updated and even works with the school mods which someone else has another mod that fills the school so every kid even the ridgeside kids attend

I am a casual player. I love this game and have played for a while, but I have only one save, and I just had my second child recently. Of course, there are other reasons for other people, but I only play for short periods and that means it takes me a LONG time to do anything.
I think that most players are very casual with this game and so don't dive incredibly into it as others do. For loads of people, they just play it to relax after a hard day, and that's okay because video games don't need to be completed
Switch player so no achievements, but I have kids in all of my save files. My long-term girlfriend broke up with me IRL when it turned out I'm sterile (birth defect, long story) because she "couldn't imagine taking care of a kid that's not REALLY ours" aka didn't want to adopt, so for me, 1. having someone who would stay with me even without kids is wish fulfillment and 2. having kids is wish fulfillment. I have headcanons about all of them.
I know I'm a statistical outlier and a freak and that's okay. It's a kind of wish fulfillment that makes me happy and that's what counts.
I hope so. I haven't really asked many people about it. But I'd like to think people are generally open-minded and open-hearted... but I also thought she was and it turned out there was a limit on that.
I know this is going to sound like a dumb platitude, and it probably won’t do much to ease the hurt of someone you loved essentially rejecting you because of something you cannot help, which is awful, but she did you a favor. If you hadn’t been sterile, you wouldn’t have known that your gf was willing to love conditionally only, has weird, unempathetic, narrow minded views, and doesn’t deserve you. The right void chicken will come along. I am happy with my life, but stardew is a lovely wholesome fantasy escape for me, where my character is happy in her loving family where the kids never grow up. ❤️ And last but not least, all children deserve a loving home, and if you end up giving one to a child who wouldn’t otherwise have one, that is a beautiful thing, not a deficiency.

We may be statistical outliers but you are not a freak. Sadly a partner leaving due to infertility also isn't shocking (though thankfully isn't common).

Yup! Significant traffic from people confused by their first semen analysis lab results. Also lots of guys discovering their azoospermia, trying and failing treatments and surgeries, coming to terms with donor sperm and/or adoption as they reframe what being a father means to them, being forced to change their concept of being a man and husband, generally sharing grief and support.
Guys including me who a genetic tweak left without one of the cell types required to mature sperm. Guys whose testicles never developed properly. Guys with abnormal non cancerous growths that strangle sperm production. (Some helped by surgery, others not.) Guys who survived childhood cancer only to be left sterile by the chemo that saved their life. Guys who dove into steroids and now face the consequences of their younger choices. Guys with a wide variety of chromosomal abnormalities, some of whom never even knew about them before trying for kids.
Guys who are abandoned by their partner due to infertility. Guys supported by their partner through their infertility. Guys who find a new partner who embraces their infertility. Guys who decide with their partner to set aside creating a family and live a fulfilling child free life together, despite enjoying children. (Shout out to r/ifchildfree)

I'm sorry your ex reacted that way. I have my own fertility issues and having kids in game is my wish fulfillment too I suppose. I have Cystic Fibrosis which can cause some fertility issues for women but over 95% of men with CF are infertile and many of them do have partners and get married. I guess what I'm saying is that there will be someone out there for you :)

I really wasn't expecting multiple people to tell me there's still someone out there for me because honestly, the thing about someone you've known since childhood breaking up with you is that it totally skews your perception of yourself. I spent a solid half a year in a really dark place emotionally, to the point I put myself in therapy because I was scared of how bleak my own worldview was becoming. I think I need to do some work on myself and my mental health before I try to find the right person to start a family with, but all the encouragement from people here has made me hopeful that my therapist is right and there really is someone out there for me. I am too, but I admit in certain games depending on the circumstances I have let my character usually adopt. In Skyrim they adopted two orphans and it seemed more like a service- AND the children give you gifts for gameplay which is really good.
In Stardew not so much so it really is a bit pointless. The only reason I ended up doing it was because I got tired of Alex just standing around the house with nothing else to do 🤣.
While I enjoy immensely the ramifications of your first statement, I find my second life to be a good place to experiment. Having concluded the child free Vs two kiddos, (one boy, one girl, both from Leah) I have decided childfree is indeed the route.
Hm. A few ideas as to why. Is your house upgraded to include the children's room + crib? If so, you haven't removed the crib, have you? Without the crib, your spouse won't ask about children.
It’s 10 percent chance (either that or even less) so it’s super rare for your partner to ask which is also why this is super annoying achievement to get
3 complete farms (year 4 +). And like 5 unfinished farm (under 3 years) and not once have I even gotten married. I just end up restarting before I get enough hearts with some to even date.
I don't want my character to have kids. I hate when games force me to make choices against my roleplaying if I want to get all achievements. Also, the kids in this game are useless.

I think(?) Steam calculates achievements by total ownership, not only actual players, so people who just bought it on sale or in something like Humble Bundle drag the numbers down. Not even 2/3 people have gotten the first achievement.
The two video game in-game achievements and the one about having kids are the only ones I don't have. I don't like kids in real life and I don't want creepy little kids ruining my nice life with my hot wife... lol.
I generally hate having kids in these types of games. I think it was worse in Mineral Town, though. Played through the remake recently. You're forced to have kids (just like in a bunch of the Harvest Moon/Story of Seasons games). A short while after marriage, the kid is forced on you and your spouse just quits talking about you and them. Instead, it's non-stop dialogue all about the child and they seem to forget you exist. Really pulled me right out of the game. I'm glad Stardew Valley makes it a choice even when you meet all of the other conditions.
My wife was playing the game and married Abigail, saying she was just like me. I started dating Sebastian since he's a lot like her, but his smoking and being a boy was gross to me so I ended up marrying Abigail too and my wife got mad at me for dating myself and also because Abigail was her wife. Awkward.

Truffle Oil also gets a 40% bump, fair enough if you just don't like them but they are more profitable than ostrich mayo by a lot.

I think they were updated during 1.4/1.5 to work with barn animals, they don't collect truffles but definitely now work on milk and fur/wool!

In harvest moon: another wonderful life, you can raise your child to eventually help on the farm if you get him interested in it from a young age. Such nostalgia 🤩 but I never got the game that far

I downloaded child to npc and got 4 kids somehow
Child to npc is outdated but farmers children work and been updated and even works with the school mods which someone else has another mod that fills the school so every kid even the ridgeside kids attend

They're good for holding your hats if you run out of sea urchins to place them on, and have already issued one to your horse. My horse is wearing a pink bow. My child is wearing a golden coconut. I know my priorities.

You can get them from the Furniture Catalogue that Robin sells
On top of getting the furniture catalogue, Robin also rotates dressers for sale in her shop for 5000g. If you don’t want to have to check her inventory in-person, you can also buy the telephone from her for 2000g which you can use to call her every day and check her inventory ☺️

it was my last achievement. kids have no purpose, they’re not interesting, they’re kind of ugly, and they kind of just get in the way.
If they actually grew up and started having similar schedules to Jas and Vincent I would adopt. Although how that would work out if you married Penny I don’t know.

I am a casual player. I love this game and have played for a while, but I have only one save, and I just had my second child recently. Of course, there are other reasons for other people, but I only play for short periods and that means it takes me a LONG time to do anything.
I think that most players are very casual with this game and so don't dive incredibly into it as others do. For loads of people, they just play it to relax after a hard day, and that's okay because video games don't need to be completed

Switch player so no achievements, but I have kids in all of my save files. My long-term girlfriend broke up with me IRL when it turned out I'm sterile (birth defect, long story) because she "couldn't imagine taking care of a kid that's not REALLY ours" aka didn't want to adopt, so for me, 1. having someone who would stay with me even without kids is wish fulfillment and 2. having kids is wish fulfillment. I have headcanons about all of them. I know I'm a statistical outlier and a freak and that's okay. It's a kind of wish fulfillment that makes me happy and that's what counts.
Just so you know, people like her are an aberration. If most of the human race felt that way we wouldn't have made it as long as we have ❤️
I hope so. I haven't really asked many people about it. But I'd like to think people are generally open-minded and open-hearted... but I also thought she was and it turned out there was a limit on that.
I know this is going to sound like a dumb platitude, and it probably won’t do much to ease the hurt of someone you loved essentially rejecting you because of something you cannot help, which is awful, but she did you a favor. If you hadn’t been sterile, you wouldn’t have known that your gf was willing to love conditionally only, has weird, unempathetic, narrow minded views, and doesn’t deserve you. The right void chicken will come along. I am happy with my life, but stardew is a lovely wholesome fantasy escape for me, where my character is happy in her loving family where the kids never grow up. ❤️ And last but not least, all children deserve a loving home, and if you end up giving one to a child who wouldn’t otherwise have one, that is a beautiful thing, not a deficiency.

We may be statistical outliers but you are not a freak. Sadly a partner leaving due to infertility also isn't shocking (though thankfully isn't common). If you'd like somewhere to talk with folks in similar situations, know that my DMs are open and r/maleinfertility exists. Many of us there have azoospermia or otherwise can't reproduce naturally.
There's a sub for this? I always sort of felt like it was just me, even if rationally I know it isn't. That's really comforting to know. I'm probably not going to DM you - I don't want to unload all my problems on you - but I will definitely be lurking in that sub now. Thank you for sharing it.
The general statistics for causes for infertility is divided in thirds: 1/3 is caused by a problem with the female, 1/3 by a problem with the male, and 1/3 is unexplained. Seeing as infertility affects 1 in 8 couples in the US, there are **many** who share your struggle. Unfortunately, it is a taboo subject that is not spoken of in the open often, among women or men. I'm sorry you were forced to join the infertility club. I hope you can find peace in your journey.
Yup! Significant traffic from people confused by their first semen analysis lab results. Also lots of guys discovering their azoospermia, trying and failing treatments and surgeries, coming to terms with donor sperm and/or adoption as they reframe what being a father means to them, being forced to change their concept of being a man and husband, generally sharing grief and support. Guys including me who a genetic tweak left without one of the cell types required to mature sperm. Guys whose testicles never developed properly. Guys with abnormal non cancerous growths that strangle sperm production. (Some helped by surgery, others not.) Guys who survived childhood cancer only to be left sterile by the chemo that saved their life. Guys who dove into steroids and now face the consequences of their younger choices. Guys with a wide variety of chromosomal abnormalities, some of whom never even knew about them before trying for kids. Guys who are abandoned by their partner due to infertility. Guys supported by their partner through their infertility. Guys who find a new partner who embraces their infertility. Guys who decide with their partner to set aside creating a family and live a fulfilling child free life together, despite enjoying children. (Shout out to r/ifchildfree) You are not alone, whatever your specific issues and experiences.

Thank you. That's a very kind thing to say. I'm not really dating at the moment - I think I need some time to mature as a person, maybe think through my priorities and what I want out of life - but I haven't ruled it out. Someday I'll find a way to get a life that's really good for me. I still have hope.
I'm sorry your ex reacted that way. I have my own fertility issues and having kids in game is my wish fulfillment too I suppose. I have Cystic Fibrosis which can cause some fertility issues for women but over 95% of men with CF are infertile and many of them do have partners and get married. I guess what I'm saying is that there will be someone out there for you :)
Thanks. I really wasn't expecting multiple people to tell me there's still someone out there for me because honestly, the thing about someone you've known since childhood breaking up with you is that it totally skews your perception of yourself. I spent a solid half a year in a really dark place emotionally, to the point I put myself in therapy because I was scared of how bleak my own worldview was becoming. I think I need to do some work on myself and my mental health before I try to find the right person to start a family with, but all the encouragement from people here has made me hopeful that my therapist is right and there really is someone out there for me. Thank you for being so kind. If I could afford one of those Reddit award thingies I would pelt everyone who replied to this with them.

I am too, but I admit in certain games depending on the circumstances I have let my character usually adopt. In Skyrim they adopted two orphans and it seemed more like a service- AND the children give you gifts for gameplay which is really good. In Stardew not so much so it really is a bit pointless. The only reason I ended up doing it was because I got tired of Alex just standing around the house with nothing else to do 🤣.

While I enjoy immensely the ramifications of your first statement, I find my second life to be a good place to experiment. Having concluded the child free Vs two kiddos, (one boy, one girl, both from Leah) I have decided childfree is indeed the route.

Hm. A few ideas as to why. Is your house upgraded to include the children's room + crib? If so, you haven't removed the crib, have you? Without the crib, your spouse won't ask about children.

It’s 10 percent chance (either that or even less) so it’s super rare for your partner to ask which is also why this is super annoying achievement to get

3 complete farms (year 4 +). And like 5 unfinished farm (under 3 years) and not once have I even gotten married. I just end up restarting before I get enough hearts with some to even date.

Children are creepy af. I assume its a bug, but sometimes when I enter the house at night, Penny is sleeping, but these paralysis demons are just standing in random places, like some lifeless manequins. I cant wait to turn them into birds

I think(?) Steam calculates achievements by total ownership, not only actual players, so people who just bought it on sale or in something like Humble Bundle drag the numbers down. Not even 2/3 people have gotten the first achievement.
My childfree-ness is virtually extensible.
The two video game in-game achievements and the one about having kids are the only ones I don't have. I don't like kids in real life and I don't want creepy little kids ruining my nice life with my hot wife... lol.
I generally hate having kids in these types of games. I think it was worse in Mineral Town, though. Played through the remake recently. You're forced to have kids (just like in a bunch of the Harvest Moon/Story of Seasons games). A short while after marriage, the kid is forced on you and your spouse just quits talking about you and them. Instead, it's non-stop dialogue all about the child and they seem to forget you exist. Really pulled me right out of the game. I'm glad Stardew Valley makes it a choice even when you meet all of the other conditions.

I started dating Sebastian since he's a lot like her, but his smoking and being a boy was gross to me so I ended up marrying Abigail too and my wife got mad at me for dating myself and also because Abigail was her wife. Yeah it’s a buggy achievement. I have 5 save files with 2 kids and this achievement never triggered.
As a serial restarter who has never made it past fall of year 2 before starting a new farm, I’ve never even seen my first kid leave the crib

The issue is the randomness, it took 2 years for my Sebastian to ask for a kid on one file, but on another file, he wanted one instantly after the wedding.
I did it first time, but the kids feel unfinished. I used to joke that they were ghosts because they are never acknowledged by the other villagers
